Newbie Meet n' Greet
For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.
There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

"He has a preference for what he's called? Jeez..." She grumbles incoherently for a moment before sighing and folding her arms across her chest. "Lots of stuff is wrong with robots. That's why I make a living by destroying them. I guess it doesn't really apply here, though. The robots in my world are being infected with a rampancy virus designed by an underground Luddite organization, since most menial labor is being performed by AI's these days. The organization doesn't take kindly to the way we're allowing artificial intelligence to take over our society, even if we are only letting them do things we consider to be lesser jobs. The education system has even been taken into robotic hands, which I have to admit is incredibly irritating. Needless to say, the fact that robots are so rampant in the world these days is causing some serious problems. They're all going insane and trying to destroy stuff and eat people." The explanation is rather lacking in emotion, which is honestly not anything new for Yoshimi. The flat tone of her voice is actually indicative of the fact that she's more comfortable with the situation when discussing things that she actually understands. She blinks. "Don't ask me how robots manage to eat people, though; I'm not sure myself."

"... uh. I'm a mad scientist. I make robots." Wyn says in response to the rather dispassionate rant, finally identifying the source of the awkwardness. "Mine don't eat people, though-- and I was actually going to ask how that worked. Why do they need to eat people, anyway? I mean, unless they run on carbon or something, but that's horribly inefficient." She sounds oddly knowledgeable about this supposed inefficiency.

By the way her eyes abruptly focus - possibly for the first time - on Wyn, it is easy to tell that her interest switch has been flipped. "Really? I've always kind of wondered how they do that. Not that I'm particularly fond of them, but they're really complicated. I know how to take them apart, not put them back together, you know?" As she talks, she reassesses the 'mad scientist' before her. "All I can figure is that they like the squishy-crunchy feeling of chewing up people. There really aren't any nutritional benefits, as they don't really have a way of processing nutrients. I've only seen people being eaten a few times; the operational lights get really bright and twinkly. Maybe it makes them happy or something? Who knows."

"... I dunno, maybe that's what you call it. Alternate universes, et cetera. Also, the chip-in-the-head thing is kind of cool if you like bio-mods, which I do not. Too squishy." Many, many things are 'too squishy' for mechanical-engineer-mad-scientists. "And besides, what happens when you want to turn the Nexus off?"

She shrugs. "You kind of don't; it becomes natural to ignore it, and you get over the creepy possibility of being hacked at any second. The government uses the connection to spy on people that need spying upon. Like me."
no subject
"... oh. Well, that sounds like the government."
no subject
She grimaces. "Our government is pretty typical. Sleazy, loop-hole-finding, privacy-invading megalomaniacs in three-piece suits. So it goes."
no subject
"Add in some conquering of neighboring countries and then not letting them go ever and you've basically got our government. The king has a very shiny crown for state occasions, though, which makes up for more than you'd think." she continues, smile turning slightly brittle and remarkably unamused. Wyn has... issues with her government.
no subject
"... That sounds a lot like the United Kingdom government in my dimension. The king still flaunts his crown despite the fact that he's basically become an artifact from time gone by."
no subject
"... it should. I'm from-- well, the polite term is the United Kingdom. British Empire's more accurate." Wyn says with a shrug.
no subject
"Oh, well... that explains the accent, I guess. Though it's a bit more Irish than British. I'm guessing that means you're from Ireland."
