Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

"I could use more familiar faces," Lam said with a wry smile. "This isn't my usual fare." She waved around at the scenery. "Granted, I'm sure I'll adapt, but this wasn't really what I had in mind for today."

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah..." He couldn't say he thought this was really anyone's fair. SG-1 had gone through somewhat similar situations, and he'd heard Atlantis had dealt with a few weird, living technologies, like the Wraith...but none of it stacked up to this.

Especially so, however, this wasn't somewhere a doctor should have been dragged. Even if they'd probably be needing a few.

"Alien abduction was not on my list of things to do today, either."

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then whomever decided to do this," Lam said grimly, "has us both on even ground as far as expectations go." There were all sorts of creatures around them, though. Most were human and some were not. Some were more alien and exotic than she could have ever imagined.

"When I said I might have wanted to go off world again, this was not what I meant."

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I highly doubt anyone meant this place, Doctor." If they did...well, then they were very strange people. Especially if they meant this place specifically. It would do well to investigate how they were connected to it.

Barring that very hypothetical situation, however, Cameron shrugged. "I haven't been able to figure out anything about who did this."

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"It hasn't been long enough to figure anything out, Colonel," Lam said quietly and offered him a slight smile. "Unless you've been here longer than I have." She folded her arms and glanced up at him seriously. "And if you have, somehow I'd think you'd let me know."

Unless he wasn't the Mitchell she knew. Lam really, really didn't want to go there.

"No, I suppose not. Don't exactly have a watch on hand to keep track, though." Most of the time, he was fairly capable of keeping track of time on his own, anyway, but this whole place was disorientating, and the living...things around him, such as the suit and the ship itself did not help his tracking of time.

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"No watch here, either, despite I could have sworn I was wearing one," Lam said. "I'm told time doesn't exactly move right either, so I guess it was just left behind." She had her own internal alarm clock, generally speaking, but if time really was screwed up...she was so sure that was going to work either.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well. That was just a wonderful concept, wasn't it? He was fairly certain the only person he knew who could adequately understand the differing time flow--let alone explain it in a way normal mortals could understand it--was Sam, whom he'd seen no sign of so far.

"Well. That's a reassuring thought."

[OOC: Too hot to continue using the Comp right now. Back when it cools.]

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I wish it were more reassuring," Lam said dryly. "I'm definitely not qualified to explain time mechanics, but gimme a good surgical suite and I might be able to save a limb or two." Everyone had their specialties, that was for sure and hers had nothing to do with physics.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
He rolled his shoulders. "Lets hope there's at least one of those lurking around here. With tools a little more familiar than the rest of this ship seems to be."

He trusted the doctor's medical and surgical skills implicitly...but he would be much more comfortable if he knew there would be familiar tools around to be used. Preferably tools that did not utilize those tentacles.

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd hope so," Lam murmured. "I know I'd feel more than a little strange if I had to deal with...tentacle surgery." She'd feel completely out of place, to be honest. Familiar surgical tools would be a blessing, even if the material they were made of might be different.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Cam really wasn't surprised that her mind immediately went to tentacle surgery. Any normal concerned citizen's would, given the circumstances. Tentacle surgery was definitely on the list of things he'd rather not ever have to experience. Even if he happened to be unconscious at the time.

"We'll...have to see about that."

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds like a job for a conductor, not a doctor," she muttered under her breath. "Maybe it won't come to that." She hoped. It was hard enough being whisked away from home by an apparently sentient ship, placed in some...gooey pod, ejected, and forced to wear some sort of plant suit that had its own pulse. That, she was still adjusting to without feeling as highly uncomfortable as possible.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ideally, we'll find a way back home and...regroup, before it comes to that, Doctor." He shrugged slightly, and offered her a flicker of a smile. "Not that I don't trust you'd know what you were doing if it came that anyway, Doctor."

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Her eyebrows arched. Finding a way back home and then regrouping sounded almost implausible under the current circumstances, but Mitchell was Mitchell. All she could do was nod and glance at the mess of color and stars going on outside.

"I am sure something will be figured out," she said. "Until then, I guess we all will have to do what we can to make sure we get to that point."

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Optimism was what he did, but...they would find answers, and they'd get back to Earth. To regroup, to provide warning, or to get backup, whatever those answers might turn out to be.

"Guess the next step is figuring out what that is."

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sooner we do that, the better I know I'll feel," Lam said, stepping forward and a little to the side to allow someone to pass her. "This whole incident is highly troubling, to say the least. If this ship could take us..." She left it dangling as she considered the widespread ramifications of the technology involved and paled slightly.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
He reached over and gave her upper-arm a reassuring squeeze. How reassuring that really was with the pulsing suit was arguable, but it was yet another hard habit to break.

"We've got nothing better to do than figure it out. Maybe Colonel Carter's somewhere around here, too."

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"We need to find her, if she's here," Lam said firmly. "I saw a great deal of pods back where we came from. It could very well be likely she is in one of them." She drew a breath and stifled a shudder, settling for squaring her shoulders instead and letting the brief contact between them soothe her. For what it was worth, it did help.

[identity profile] sgmitchell.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"We'll have to investigate those things once this place clears out a bit." From what he'd glanced at on the way up, the pods weren't going to be the easiest things to cut through, if they needed to--and he didn't have a knife handy--but if they could find a way to pick out Sam, he'd have to find a way.

Of course, given how massive the chamber was, he was pretty sure unless they could find a way to narrow the search, they'd be relying on dumb luck.

[identity profile] likeselevators.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
"That should be soon, if we have any luck at all," Lam said, pulling her eyes from the spot of streaming stars she'd been staring at. "If not, we're going to have to engineer our own luck."

Surely if this place was holding the rest of SG-1 (if it was), they'd be able to find and rescue them. Lam could help with that despite her civilian status. She wasn't stupid, after all.
