Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

"We must be very far from our homes," Lam murmured. "A space colony," she echoed absently, trying to tear her eyes from the colors and streaming stars. "We haven't the technology yet for that, though some of us are...explorers."

Kira shook his head. "All the PLANTs are within Earth orbit, though one scientist manned a trip to Jupiter. We haven't been any further than that."

He looks over at her, curious despite himself at her pause. "...what do you explore?"

"Planets, mostly, though not with space ships," Lam said, wondering how to word it without giving anything away. "We're scientists and explorers, mostly, but not all of the world knows about our efforts. It's been a mostly quiet exploration, save for a few hiccups." Mass chaos, a barely avoided alien invasion, the Ori. Yep. Hiccups.

Exploring planets, though not with space travel? Well, as odd and implausible as it seemed, that left few options - and Kira glanced at her knowingly, even if he hadn't figured it out exactly. "Ah..." He looked out the window again. "We don't have anything like that technology in my world."
