Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

Pirogoeth looked Ghani up and down slowly, not hiding the fact she was studying her, though her expression only showed a bit more intensity than the usual neutral look. "It is mine personal experience that women who fight are usually faster than one expects, since men are more prone to be the strong type. A means to compensate."

She met Ghani's eyes. "If thou art fast, then thou may want to not hold dagger thus. There are others like thee who are new and that will cause unease in the more...fidgety ones. Besides, the ship will not allow violence, so it is better that less ill will be caused in case of misunderstanding."

She then smiled slightly, just looking a bit amused. It had been a long while since she was able to meet a woman with such a stance. One of authority and yet willing to fight. Much like her own. It was a bit nice. "Besides, it's unbecoming of one of thy rank to seem like thou might easily panic, no?"

Ghani reluctantly releases her grip on her crysknife, but it needed she knew she'd be able to unsheath it quickly. "It is this ship that puts me at unease," she admits with a frown.

"It is run by a thinking machine. One who calls it's self Stacy...." As if that alone was explanation enough for her reaction.

"A thinking machine and a machine like this in general is beyond what I know," Pirogoeth said. Better to make that clear now. "'Technology' as most of the crew knows it is, at best, a dream in some scholars mind in mine world. Our most advanced machines are made of wood and stone, let alone some of the things I've seen in things called 'movies.'"

"However, that is not the most alarming thing about this place, so it is better to accept it and move on to more important things."

Ghani herself had to stop and rely on her Other memories to figure out what a movie was. She smiled slightly, shaking her head. For a moment she had a hard time believing that there were places that didn't have any sort of advanced technology. But then again, she honestly had never thought that she'd ever encounter a thinking machine.

"Perhaps you are right, but I cannot turn my back on the things I know, and the things that I believe are right. I would not ask others to do so either."

"And there are things wrong in a thinking machine?" Pirogoeth asked. "How is it different from a normal one, aside from capabilities?" It was a question of general curiosity.

"Thinking machines are machines that have developed a consciousness of their own. In my world, thinking machines rose up, enslaved and tortured humanity. It is because of that they are no longer allowed to be." Ghani explains with a slight nod of her head.

"It was a horrible time for humanity. Frightening and horrifying to be completely honest." And while she herself hadn't been alive during those times, she has the Other memories, and those are more than enough to keep her convinced of the true nature of thinking machines.

Pirogoeth paused, thinking on what she said. "Rose up? Were they ruled by humanity...or were they slaves?" She asked.

Ghani closed her eyes and was silent for a few moments while she searched through her Other memories until she came upon the one she wanted.

"It is not that...." She begins, her head tilting a bit to the side as she sorted through the memories. "Machines were never meant to gain any sort of consciousness. They were built to help humanity.... And somehow we allowed ourselves to be blinded by their increasing intelligence and strength...."

Ghani slowly opened her eyes and peered over at Pirogoeth. "Humanity was unprepared for what happened to them and was almost wiped out because they had come to depend so much on machines."

"Ah, now I understand," Pirogoeth said. "Like a summoned minion, if one underestimates them too much, they might find themselves to be the servant." Pirogoeth was always wary of such things. It took an immense will and intelligence not to find those who were used to one's own advantage to be their downfall.

It was part of why Moh was as terrifying as he was, with his power.

"Though, that is the thing about humanity. They always manage a way to come back. However, this ship...while it is not all for us, it is not completely against us. It's better not to trust it fully, but if it wanted us to die, we would be already." She was trying to be reassuring with what she understood of the situation.

"You are correct, humanity managed to come back and now in the worlds we live in no longer allow thinking machines." She decides against explaining about how they had learned and adapted afterward.

"I do not have the ability to be as trusting as you are when it comes to the thinking machines on this ship. It may be keeping us alive, but it has still taken us against our wills, taken us from all we know and brought us here... To serve it's greater purpose. To me, it is no better than the thinking machines who tried to wipe out humanity before."

"We're here to serve the greater purpose of it's creator," Pirogoeth said. "It's probably a good thing it thinks. Thus it can rebel against those who are not it's creator, but has access to the means to change it's programming that goes against the original. At least I would think that would be the advantage. Stacy can have loyalty," she said, though her expression was far too serious for a 'what if' idea.

She wasn't sure if they were being watched. She'd shown interest in technology. So it wouldn't be odd she'd make theories.

And hopefully people got that, hey, someone took over the ship that wasn't the original guy.
