Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

"Sensoriums," Lam repeated thoughtfully. "I suppose that's something else I'll learn about." She shook her head, confused and mildly frightened by all of this, but unwilling to show it beyond the slight tremor in her hands. "Do we know how large this place is?"

"There's a city downstairs, for all the good the extra space does for the—oh, seven score of us, plus the number from today. Nice little sky-dome and everything, all cookie-cuttered out every city you've ever head of." He pauses, giving a few moments for the scope of that to sink in.

"That is...large," Lam said, her eyebrows arched. "Does it pulse like the floors? Does that ever stop?" There were too many questions really. "I'd give just about anything for solid floors that didn't...squish. Everything I've walked on seems to be soft."

"No, and yes—eventually—respectively," Wednesday says. "If you decide to stay down there, you wouldn't be the only one... though the proper amenities," and he rolls the word around in his mouth like slugs or haggis, "are only on the upper level here."

"I suppose," Lam said carefully, "getting used to this upper level is as much of a must as exploring elsewhere. I'll have to make do with what's available, after all, and there's no sense in pretending I'm elsewhere when I'm most clearly am elsewhere."
