Newbie Meet n' Greet
For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.
There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

So forcing himself to look at her again. "I didn't want to go," he said sincerely. "But the Ellimist said that it was the best way to keep you, to keep Earth, from being taken by the Yeerks. So I left. I was given back my Andalite form. I retained this morph and I was only like this when I saw you because I did not want to cause more distress to those who have just awaken here."

She was also counting backwards from ten.

"It was the hardest choice I ever had to make. I almost said no, I would have said no had I known what you were going to tell me that day. That's why the Ellimist took me before you could, because he knew I wouldn't have gone then no matter what he said."
no subject
"What was I going to say?"
no subject
"A son," Elfangor said. "You were going to have a baby. He came when you were at the doctor's when you would get the news. He knew I couldn't decide to leave you both. It was nearly impossible just to leave you."
Which was kind of why he was perfectly fine with the suicide run he'd pull minutes after leaving Earth.

How could this all have happened?

We'll save the fact he's a rather odd hawk nothlit when she had gotten over the shock.
Then he looked at her sadly. "There is nothing I regret more than having to leave you both, but it seems it was necessary to make sure the Earth was not taken." He made a mental note to tell her not to mention this to Aximili before introducing them.

And then in the midst of trying to sort out time travel she was thinking about her son. She'd always like Tobias as a name. What did he look like? Was he more like her or more like Elfangor?
Just what did Elfangor have to do that would keep their home worlds free from the Yeerks? What was so important that he had to be taken away from her?

< Mom? Um, you probably don't know me...or, I don't know if you do. Just, don't panic when you see me. > He perches carefully on his father's shoulder. < I'm Tobias. I just kind of got a little too comfortable in this body. Here...this might be easier for you. > He hops to the ground and knowing he won't stand out in the chaos, he morphs to human.
"There. It's a long story...the Ellmist made me morph-capable again, but from that body, not this one. Anyway, I know everything, pretty much." He stopped then because he wasn't sure how much to say.

"This place is...confusing. You are in my past. Tobias is in the future from my point in time. Aximili, my younger brother, is in a point of time between Tobias and myself. Tobias remembers actually...." He paused for a long and sighed. He should tell her. "Seeing my demise. In a way where I shouldn't have possibly survived, but I am here even though it was just moments from happening in my memory. The timeline has not been damaged despite all of us being pulled from different points. While I seemed to have fulfilled what I needed to do as did Tobias, Aximili or you still have significant roles to play out still."
And then Tobias appeared and was morphing. "I was actually working on explaining everything. I just told her about you," he said. Then he added, "I was going to let her take it all in before the hawk part though."

Loren closed her eyes. This was too much information coming in all at once. And she didn't want to look at the son she hadn't had yet. He was her and Elfangor rolled into one and he was all grown up and from her future.
A future without Elfangor. There wasn't a father with her to raise her son. (Oh if she knew the truth of it.)
She didn't know how her head wasn't exploding.
When Loren opened her eyes again there were tears in them. If anyone asked why she was rubbing them she would say something was in them and driving her crazy. "You're my son." Loren couldn't quite look at him for very long just yet so she turned back to Elfangor. "And you're telling me that he remembers your death?"
no subject
< I do not want to tell her too much of what I know yet...about the accident and her memory being tampered with. She is already taking it hard, which is very understandable. > he said in private thought-speech. < I feel bad for her. >
no subject
He nodded. "Yes, Tobias is your son. And he did see my death. After I gave him and four of his friends the power to morph. Which was why he was turned into a hawk nothlit until the Ellimist interfere. It was to help buy time for Earth from the Yeerks who were already there from taking over, the Visser found me. At the time I was...badly wounded. I should be dead. I saw how it was going to happen, but before I died...I woke up in the pod cavern," he explained. He left out the part he was going to be eaten. That was a gruesome detail not really needed.
< I was still wondering if I could tell her about her history. I doubt she would do anything to keep you from being conceived, and she could hardly stop the Ellimist. After that... > Elfangor trailed off. He wanted to tell her. He wanted to help her avoid the accident, so she didn't have to suffer that pain, but then there was the timeline. Then again, with Stacy's interference and the time line seemingly stable, did it mean it didn't matter?
It was all rather confusing.

But now that she didn't have to worry about holding the bat in one hand, and since she couldn't hit Elfangor over the head with it she opted to throw her arms around him.
"I'm not letting you die." Now that she knew, if all this was in her future, she was going to change it. She didn't care about the Ellimist or Yeerks or Andalites or the fate of her own people. She thought her adventure was over and that, aside from Elfangor, there would be no more aliens in her life.
Everyone wants to be normal, and most of the time that's exactly what happens. Just not for Loren.
no subject
< Is it possible to change the timeline, once the Ellmist set it? I do wish there was a way to change it...to keep you alive...but I know if we don't fight, Earth is history. I wish there was a way to have it both ways. >
< By the way, where is Ax? I haven't seen him yet > Tobias wondered.
no subject
"If there's a way that I can survive, then I will find it. I have this chance to try and figure it out. I...won't leave you again," Elfangor whispered the promise in her ear, kissing her cheek gently, hoping to bring her reassure.
No matter how much time had passed for him, his feelings for Loren hadn't waned. He couldn't not try to do something, ANYTHING, to make life better for her
< I have to go back to the Andalite World. From what you told me, it has to end up that I can give you and your friends the power to morph. But if this ship can do things to time, then there must be something we can do. > Elfangor said, determination and a bit of a desperation sounding in his thought speak.
< I haven't seen him today. I'll have to introduce him and Loren, but...later. When she's calmer. >
no subject
< I think it might depend on who's stronger in the end...The Ellimist, or Stacy. I'm not sure I want to know what happens if there's a fight between them. It would really complicate things, anyway. There's another being, Crayak...he and the Ellimist have been playing this game for a really long time. They have all these rules and everything. If Stacy pushed her...its...whatever...way into the fight, I can't begin to think what'd happen. >

She knew she should probably let go of Elfangor about now but didn't want to just yet.
This had to be really weird for her "son."
Loren stepped away from Elfangor but she took hold of his hand.
no subject
"Please do. Avoiding your anger is just another reason not to fail," he said, trying to make it in a joking tone. Something to maybe lighten the mood a bit?
He gently squeezed her hand, and gestured to Tobias. "But, yes, as he said before, this is Tobias. Our son. And Tobias, this is your mother a few months after I met her."
no subject
He was nearly as old as she was. And somehow, something clicked in her mind. As odd and strange and completely bizarre as all of this was, as much as she wanted to deny everything she was hearing, she knew. She knew she was looking at her son.
He looked beautiful.
"Hello Tobias." Loren smiled. "You must all ready know me and I don't know anything about you but," Her smile broadened. "I want to."

Slow, deep breaths, Loren. Whatever the future is you can change it.
"You're not alone anymore."

Though, he might just screw what has to happen, if it could mean Loren and Tobias would end up happier.
