The Change [open]

Neither Rachel nor Marco had any real trust in the medical situation they'd both been forced into. It seemed like they had been tricked and betrayed; and it meant that there were instantly a few more people crossed off their list of who they should trust when they escaped. In fact-- it left them at each other, it seemed, when they did escape from medical, two cockroaches slipping out of sight while medical was distracted from them.

Of course, this was compounded by the fact that several communications posts went up shortly after-- one announcing a Quarantine (thankfully they'd gotten out in time for that) and one announcing their abilities to the crew to warn them. And then things got worse-- Marco's morphing began to get weird, and Rachel... literally split into two.

This wasn't going well.

((ooc: As Blue's OOC post said, we need to make sure that only the people signed up for taking the two 'groups' (Nice Rachel and Marco in one corner, just Mean Rachel in the other) to Quarantine are the ones who actually do that. Other than that, feel free to try and do it! Tag under the header for whoever you want to thread with and feel free set the scene, and ours will enter in. :) ))

Even if Ax was faster than her (which he most certainly was), he didn't have far too run-- Rachel stopped after a short time, once she felt that she was a safe distance from the absolutely terrifying thing she had just seen. She buried her face in her hands for a moment, letting out a loud sob in place of the screams from before.

Ax had expected to have to run her down -- not have to stop himself from tripping over her.

< Rachel? > He stared at her in surprise. < Are you crying?! >

"Oh Ax!" Rachel sobbed out when she 'heard' his voice in her head, jumping up and spinning on him. She was so glad to see him now! Even if he'd been totally mean earlier. "It was so scary!" she explained, answering his question. "Marco morphed this, like, shark monster!"

< And then? > Ax asked, staring around with his stalk-eyes. He hadn't seen Rachel act like this since she had morphed sea star and been divided into two independent bodies!

Stress was certainly capable of affecting morphing abilities like that -- it had even happened to Marco in the past -- but that still didn't explain the way Rachel was acting.

< Rachel, I think you should go back to Medical, > he said finally. < You're acting very, very strangely. >

It had taken a few minutes after Marco had managed to demorph from that thing that he'd turned into, before the panic died down a little. He was still a little shaky, but at least now he was relatively composed.

But when he'd gone to try and find Nice Rachel...she hadn't been alone. He arrived just in time to hear Ax telling her that she should go to Medical, and suppressing a curse Marco quickly ducked behind a wall so that Ax couldn't see him.

Fuck. They really had gotten to Ax, hadn't they? He should be helping them, not trying to get them locked up!

Cautiously, Marco picked up a brick and started edging towards the end of the war, trying to see what was happening without Ax seeing him.

< You are not totally fine, Rachel, > Ax said, keeping his focus on her to catch any sign that she might attempt to morph or flee. < The last time you were acting like this, you had been split into two separate Rachels after your morphed a sea star. And if Marco's stress is causing him to mix morphs, it is entirely possible that he could morph something incapable of breathing air and suffocate and die. The people in Medical just want to help both of you. >

He thought he saw a glimpse of movement, but when he swiveled a stalk-eye in that direction, he didn't see anything.

Marco hovered, staying completely still when the stalk eye was looking his his direction. Then the moment when the eye looked away, Marco heaved the brick, sending it flying straight at Ax.

< Yes, it did only happen once, over one of your years ago at the point Stacy pulled me from the time stream, and longer for you, > Ax answered. < And yes, we can trust them for the most part. The people here have encountered Yeerks before, and-- >

He would have said more, but a brick to the head has a strange tendency to interrupt speeches with quiet time.

Marco winced when the brick hit - he really hadn't wanted to have to hurt Ax - but they still had to go our of here. "Come on, we're going to need to go," he said, walking over to Nice Rachel. "We can't be here when he wakes up."

Marco hovered for a moment, looking down at Ax. "He's breathing," he said, seeing Ax's chest rise and fall. "So he's not dead. He'll be fine once he morphs." He quashed down the guilt he felt from hurting Ax - but once they found a way to fix whatever brainwashing had been done to him, he'd understand. "Let's get out of here."
