Mingling at the Bazaar

Next to the Mall Hotel, a large bazaar sprawled out through the streets. Food stalls, jewelery stalls, plastic surgery stalls...might want to stay away from that last one. But since the bizaar was close by, it served as a good place for the crew to meet up and start their exploration of XaXing.

[[ooc: This is just a general mingling post guys, so jump in and start threads, tag into other people's, whatever you want!]]

Steve stood leaning against a cart, four bags slung over his arms. He watched the blur of his girlfriend darting in and out of the racks of clothes like a butterfly zipping around a flower garden.

It had been three hours already. Though Steve was fairly inexperienced in the girlfriend department, he knew that it was better to just keep his mouth shut and encourage her to shop til she dropped.

"I uh... like that one," he said, gesturing to the dress she was holding in the hopes it would make her go faster.

Miku held the brightly-colored dress up against her and looked in the mirror. It nearly paled her to ghosty-whiteness, but if Steve liked it, "Are you really sure?" she asked, looking at his reflection in the mirror, and wondered for a moment if her poor, pale boyfriend needed a bigger hat.

"I liked the cut, but..."

"Yeah, I like it," he said. And it was a color other than pink! Not that he didn't think Miku looked great in pink or red, but she looked nice in other colors too.

The same might be said for him and dark plaids and blue jeans.

"It looks like it'd be nice and cool," he elaborated, reaching up to rub at his face. He was incredibly paranoid of sunburn, even with the hat he was wearing (and was sure he looked incredibly dorky in.) Though he'd rather look dorky than suffer the usual annihilation of a sunburn that he usually got in the summer or in hot places like this.

Poor Steve. He just wasn't the daywalker type of redhead.

"And I like the skirt. It's kinda... twirly."

Miku looked at herself in the mirror for a moment more, and sigh, "Well, it is a new color. And if it doesn't look right on me, maybe Nanoha-chan can wear it." She beamed at him and went off to take her armful of purchases to the shopkeeper.

When it'd been paid for and the bags were in her cool little hands, she turned back to Steve, "Is there anywhere you want to go? We've been shopping for a while, and I don't think I could find it in me to drag you into one more shop; I'll go shoe-shopping with Kara-chan."

"Oh, uh... I don't know," he admitted. He'd spent so much time wishing to be anywhere else but shopping he'd never actually considered where he wanted to go. He itched his nose (it was burnt... it was burnt wasn't it?! It had to be burnt in this weather!) and looked in deep thought.

"Well, I'm kind of hungry," he said. "Do you mind if we stop and get some food? Though I don't know what in a place like this..."

[identity profile] ghost-bait.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
"You're always kind of hungry," she replied with a little grin. "But, I am too, I think." Shopping could really wear a little thing like her out. "And it can't be any worse than the pink salad from Zokez II, can it?" Which, she had to admit had still been pretty delicious, in the grand scheme of "New and Interesting Foods" if she put her mind to it.

She took his arm (and he did look a little pink, but...) and led him away from the shop. "We should get you a bigger hat, Steve," she murmured.

Steve grinned a grin of immense relief and tightened his arm around hers, letting her pull him out of the (accursed) shop. "We can find something that looks safe, I'm sure. I'm pretty good at that."

"How much bigger a hat could I possibly wear?" he asked, sounding appalled at the very idea. "I look like I'm wearing a spare tire on my head already."

[identity profile] ghost-bait.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Miku looked thoughtful, "I don't know, maybe one I can stand under, too." She grinned up at him. "Though, I suppose I would be upset if the wind picked you up and carried you off." She put her head on his arm as they walked along, until the smell of grilling meat struck her nose.

"...Something smells... really good, doesn't it?"

"If we're gonna go that far, why not just get a beach umbrella?" he teased. "One that I don't have to wear on my head, either." Stupid normal people and their melanin... what Steve would give for one afternoon in the sun that didn't leave him either fried crispy or completely covered with freckles.

The smell of meat made his stomach growl audibly. "That smells great..." he muttered. "Like barbecue ribs or something-- I vote we go eat it, whatever it is."

Well, unless it was a rat or something.

[identity profile] ghost-bait.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Because I think you would look so nice in a giant hat, that's why!" Miku laughed and pulled him in the direction of the smell. It reminded her of the open market that came once-a-month at home, and festivals, izakaya food that was quick, cheap, and delicious.

The stall was surrounded by other quick-and-easy food stalls, and while Miku couldn't identify the things cooking for the most part, they did look really good. "You pick the stall; I don't really care, I'm just hungry."

"Meat," Steve said immediately. "Real meat, grilled, that I can chew on and not suck through a straw."

Maybe Steve was still a little miffed about all the hospital food he'd been forced to eat not too long ago.

He found a small bench not far from the stalls, and had Miku claim it while he bought them both a small array of food-- some of that grilled meat, a bag of small colorful beanlike-pellets, and some kind of pink rope wrapped around a stick. "Okay, I kind of picked based on colors, but they told me everything here was something actually edible," he said.

Well, it was certainly interesting-looking meat (though Miku had her doubts about the pinkish-rope around the stick. Steve was welcome to it), and she ate some of the colorful beans. They were good - a bit like roasted chickpeas - and one or two were surprisingly spicy in the crunchy mundane taste of the rest of it.

She liked them. "Well, you did pretty well, for picking on colors," Miku giggled.
