Mingling at the Bazaar

Next to the Mall Hotel, a large bazaar sprawled out through the streets. Food stalls, jewelery stalls, plastic surgery stalls...might want to stay away from that last one. But since the bizaar was close by, it served as a good place for the crew to meet up and start their exploration of XaXing.

Will shook her head. "Sorry about that, I think that was my fault," she said, sighing. "I'm alright."

"No, it was my fault," Aqua apologized. "I've been jumpy a lot lately, and it's a little worse here." The leers from the merchants were the obvious explanation.

"My name's Aqua. You're Will, right?"

Will nodded. "Yeah, I see what you mean there," she said, glaring in the direction of one of those merchants.

"And yeah, I am. It's nice to meet you."

Of course, she had to wonder on how she knew about her, since she didn't think she was that well known on the ship.

"I'm Matt's friend," Aqua explained, seeing that Will was a little confused. "He's mentioned you."

Seeing the way the merchants weren't giving either of them a break, she started to usher Will toward a nice, safe food stall. "Let's try and get out of their sight for a bit."

Will blinked. "I see. I... really?" she said, shaking her head. That was kinda surprising, she really didn't even know the Matt here, after all.

But yes, getting away was definitely a really good idea right now, so there Will went, following Aqua's prodding.

"I've been helping him with something," Aqua explained carefully. "I really can't go into it."

The food stall was filled with foods similar to various cultures on Earth. Spotting a flatbread sandwich resembling a gyro, Aqua said, "That looks good. I'll take one of those." Looking back to Will, she asked, "Anything you see? It'll be my treat."

Will smiled. "I see," she said, looking over to the food to see if there was anything that she wanted. It took her a while, but she finally decided on a pretzel. It seemed to be cheap enough, after all. She didn't want to be too expensive and it did look tasty...

"Are you sure that's all?" Aqua asked, paying for their lunch.

Will nodded. "Yeah, I'll be fine."

Aqua got their food and handed Will her pretzel. "Matt said you were used to traveling to other worlds. Were any of them like this one?"

Will laughed, taking the pretzel. "Not at all. I think I'd go crazy if I had to come to a place like this all the time."

Aqua laughed too. "Agreed. The worlds I went to were much more closed off. There were some that knew of other worlds, or at least of other planets, and there was one with a commercial center, but none of them were as active as this."

She took a bite of her gyro. "This is good. I'll have to find whatever they use to make it for the ship."

Will nodded, taking a bite out of her pretzel as well... and smiling as she realized that it was filled with melted cheese. "Yeah. I've never seen a place here that advertised... well... that type of stuff so openly like this..."

Will smiled as she heard that last part. "Good luck with that, cooking stuff like that is a lot harder than it seems."

"At the same time, it's nice seeing the worlds are open to each other and willing to interact," Aqua admitted.

"It probably is," she agreed with a laugh. "Still, I think I should probably work on my cooking skills a little, especially if Sasami's trying to open that restaurant."

Will blinked, looking over at Aqua. "A restaurant on the ship? Is that even feasible to do?"

"I know there are a couple of places that have drinks on the ship, but she wants to try the same for food," Aqua said. "I just hope she doesn't overexert herself."

"I see," Will said. "I'm sure she'll do fine. I mean, she had to be thinking about this for a long time, right? You don't just make a restaurant within two seconds of thinking of doing it."

"I know," Aqua said. "But sometimes I think she just forgets to be a kid and have fun. She seems like she's in a rush to grow up."

Will blinked. "How old is she?"

"About eight?" Aqua answered. "Maybe nine."

There was a look of nostalgia on her face as she said, "I know I wanted to grow up at that age, but now I wish I had spent a little more time acting like a kid. I'm worried she might forget to just have fun."

Will blinked, then let out a sigh. "Okay, maybe she hasn't thought that through... and I know how that is."

"I'm going to support her," Aqua promised. "But I want to make sure she gives herself a break."

Giving Will a sympathetic look, she asked, "How was it for you?"

"Well... I kinda acted a lot older than I actually was, or tried to, anyway..." Will shook her head. "Funny how it takes the world getting destroyed to realize that..."

"I know," Aqua agreed. "For me, my friends and I ended up letting responsibility, jealousy, lies, and darkness tear us apart. It was enough to make me wish only one of us had ever tried to become a Master, if that was what it led to."

"I... I'm sorry to hear that," Will said. "It... nothing close to that happened for me."
