It's five o'clock somewhere!

It was easy to find the Drunken Dragon Tavern, due to the train, and the fact that a good portion of the crew was familiar with the establishment and could point the way. Kang knew that there were a few already planning on stopping by, and that Kaylee could use the help. He also wanted to get more information on the new people, see who was likely to cause problems (Farseer Ildraniath already had) and who wasn't. There were a few he hoped would show up, as well.

Feeling a little happier than usual, despite the Farseer, he took care of business as usual, being sociable and refilling drinks.

[Open post is very open. Feel free to talk to either Kang or Kaylee, or both, or to threadjack (with permission, of course)!]

Splicer raised an eyebrow. "Telepaths are incredibly useful, and I can tell that's not the only trick you got up yer sleeve." He pauses, and for a fraction of a second you can almost feel the subtlest of nudges, but nothing incredibly noticeable.

"Mind control is an incredibly strong power to have. Ran into a couple of those back in my academy days. Always caused trouble and tried getting away with things." He said in a nonchalant manner.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, it really is. The only thing I'm (slightly) concerned about is if such powers actually work on them. I've heard plenty about them but zero tactics on (efficiently, intelligently) dealing with them."

A mental laugh escaped her and she nodded. "It's an (easily) abusable power to have. If you don't get away with things then make them think you got away with them."

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think that's the only thing that put me on edge once I got the low down on things. It seems these people have ZERO clue as to how to fight these things... No info no nothing. 'They're evil and mean and plan to destroy us all' isn't exactly very intel worthy yanno?" He chuckled a bit grimly.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly. I'd really (as in really like to know what we plan to do to these things. Intel would be nice at the least. Do we even know where they inhabit or is it just 'in space' somewhere? It's still early, but I hope they plan to sit the crew down at a meeting to discuss what (the fuck) we plan to do about this all."

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not sure, I hope they do tho. But from what I've gathered from some of the previous crew members that aren't in charge. It seems like whoever's not in charge, or part of that group or council, they're pretty much left in the dark." He shrugs.

"I'm not foreign to having things as a need to know basis. But c'mon, if we're fightin' these tings? We deserve to at least know whatever the fuck they know about em'"

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, and that's where it differs. These are (honestly) things all of us 'need to know'. I'm a 'superhero', yes, but I am not a mindless minion or soldier. I can force myself into altruism, but I that seems highly unnecessary (and plain silly) in this case."

She pushed her mug back towards the bar and folded her hands over each other, a nervous expression on her face. She'd have to focus; the alcohol wasn't doing that much to silence the babbleroar in her head.

Finally she sighed and looked in his general direction. "I'll give it a week or two; enough time for everyone to get settled (and properly content). Then I think I'll begin asking questions or (stealthily) probing minds, though I'm not so certain this 'Stacy' will let me get away with it (because the second best thing about all this is being tossed in with a possible 'Hal')."

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm hoping so. They can't be that incompetent.... Okay well I am aiming to be right about them not being incompetent! But still, we'll see, I'll join you on the inter gathering if they don't come up with the info."

He sighs.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Luckily I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch (so to speak). Besides, this is far too depressing a talk for being inside a bar, you know."

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
He couldn't help but laugh and raise a drink to her. "I concur! Let us drink until the good times roll!" He thought out in his best impression of a viking of ye olden times.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Agreed, until all of this is just a (annoyingly vivid) memory." She brought the mug to her lips and drank deeply though she made a face at the taste, or lack thereof.

And so they drank, Splicer has a heavy tolerance for alcohol mainly because he drinks so much while on long distance jobs around the fringe planets. But soon he starts dwindling down, a sign he's starting to reach his limit.

He seems friendly, but less outgoing than before. A calm serene thoughtful expression, as he raises another cup to his lips and drinks.

"So, aside from your lover back home. Any other special people in your life?" He asked in a soft almost too relaxed voice.

His thoughts were jumbled. Prior to now, it was impossible to read any of the thoughts he was having aside from his words. Now however, the scenery in his mind changed.

A barren red planet, and a small colony village. Dust devils dancing on the horizon as a vulture bike came into view, and just as fast left. His focused seemed to be on a couple of girls, one was a bit covered in the red dust, playing with a stuffed doll. She had reddish hair and freckles anywhere the sun touched her light pale skin. The other girl however, had dark raven hair, she couldn't be much older than seven, and yet she wore a similar uniform to the one Splicer had.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
A memory. She came by them quite often while in other people's minds. His had more clarity than usual, though. Briefly she wondered what his relationship to the two girls were. Family? Daughters? His sudden voice broke her out of his thoughts and her gaze shifted towards him.

"Not particularly. There were few amongst the Superhomeys that I would consider 'friends'. And family?..." Her mental voice trailed off before she spoke up again. "I had a brother, once."

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Once?" he asked curiously, his tone still relaxed. "Guess something happened, or ya'll had a fallin' out? You don' haf ta say anytin' really. Specially'f it's a sore subject."

Suddenly the girl in the combat suit jerked alert, looking back in his direction. A tall, tank of a man came up besides him, in the same suit, tossing a large liquor bottle to the side and pulling his large rifle out.

In a blink of an eye, the other girl vanished in a spray of dirt and rock, which then rained down on them. In her place, a large worm like creature, a maw fully covered in teeth now wriggled in place as the three, began unloading their rifles onto it. The worm tilted on it's side and opened it's maw in a horrifying roar, out of it began pouring dozens of other alien creatures, a swarm, all looking deadly and intent on nothing but destruction.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"A 'falling out' would be an understatement (for that bastard), but yes."

She silently sat there, watching the memory in his mind float by. Was he intentionally showing her this? As a telepath, he would know that anyone who dipped into his mind would be witness to this, too.

One look at him told her all she needed to know, though. He was drunk or near it and his mental defenses must have relaxed. Why he was thinking of this particular scene right now, she had no idea.

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Fair enough." He replied simply, pushing a drink slightly before shrugging and bringing it up to his lips and downing the whole thing. "Let me know when you're ready to move out, I'd be happy to escort you to your place Mindfuck." There was no mirth behind his words, no ill will. Just his simple relaxed self. If he had any reactions from where his thoughts were drifting, they were not apparent.

Their team had fallen back, shooting as they ran. The small colony overrun. They had been joined by two females, both looking fairly similar. Orders where shouted and the team reacted accordingly. They were heading to a starship of sorts, possibly theirs. Upon arrival however, they noticed it had already been overrun... They huddled in a phalanx formation, staring down the incoming swarm. The little girl pressed herself in between the other members, her hand gripping his for a moment before he gave her a reassuring smile. Things would be alright... they always turned out right...

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
After a side-long glance at the man following his latest snippet of story, she hopped off the barstool and nodded.

"We can go now." If anything, hewas the one who needed to be going back to his place and getting some rest. Even if he were a fairly docile drunk, there was no telling how his psychic powers reacted when one was wasted.

That and her drinks weren't doing much for her, now. The buzzing bee was still there, flying around her mind and she was more than antsy about it. Soon, she thought, she would have to find some sort of spot far, far away from most of the people on the ship so her mind could get some much needed rest,

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And as such, he stood up, looking at one last mug with an uninterested look before shrugging it off and downing the last drink.

He made a motion to the bar, regardless of whether or not it was returned and made his way to her side, extending an arm to her and giving her a simple sincere smile.

"Then let us be off then pretty lady." He replied in a soothing friendly tone.

His thoughts became muddled and obscure, finally fading to black. His mind was void of thought as if the defenses had suddenly kicked back in. Nothing was seen or heard other than the chilling sound of true silence.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
A questioning eyebrow was raised when he extended his arm. "Oh? This is the first time I've seen someone spiral up to a gentleman when they're inebriated. Quite a feat," she joked.

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He chuckled, a small smile still lingering on his features. For the first time it was clear, his youthful looks and strong body betrayed the experience and hardships the man had gone through. And even through this, he held his head high proudly, looking forward to the next day, and then the days after that.

"Only for a maiden as yourself of course. One that isn't tossing me out of a window after a long night of drinks." He joked back, a deep low rumble of a laughter.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Laying the compliments on thick, aren't you? Either way, I'll certainly take them. I haven't considered myself (oh, the naivety) a 'maiden' since I was a teen." She said, returning the amused smile. "Plenty of time in the day left for me to still defenestrate you, though!"

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
He let out another deep, hearty chuckle and smiled at her. She was definitely someone pleasant and fun to hang around... Almost felt like back when he had a team...

He proceeded to escort her out and through the city, retelling unimportant yet amusing stories of the many bars he had visited.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
She listened to him, cutting in with a ludicrous look or a comment here and there. The babbleroar seemed to be lessening, much to her enjoyment, but she really needed to find a home somewhere far, far away from most of this. The sleeping quarters were not doing anything for her getting actual rest.

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
"You can always get something out here on the city. I've been looking around myself. Plenty of places to claim, regardless of taste. A lot of these buildings are abandoned." He said nonchalantly as he kept on walking, as if reading minds was nothing out of the ordinary.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Right-o. I was thinking that. I'm not sure, though. Maybe something far away and underground (surrounded by a lead box, maybe?) will help. This is actually kind of strange for me, having no choice whether to be around other minds."

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Well I'm free if you wana bunk up." He said in a semi serious, semi teasing way. No ill-will in how voice or his mind tho, even if his focus seemed to be on getting her home safe.
