Marriage Planet

Stacy's voice came over the comm, blaring across the entire ship.

||Attention, Attention. All personnel please report to the Observation Deck. Attention, Attention. All personnel please report to the Observation Deck. Attention, Attention, all personnel...||

The mouth in the main sculpture on Obs Deck opened, revealing a screen with the image of a mottled blue and purple planet, rotating slowly.

Planet Designation: Gondepetil
Status: Terrestrial, H-class.
Mass slightly larger than most Earths.
Non-sentient life: Extensive flora and fauna.
Semi-Sentient Life: Yes.
Sentient Life: Yes.
Water: 88% of the planet's surface.

Climate: Similar to Earth's Mediterranean climate. Warm but hospitable.  [Click here for cultural equivalents for non-Earth cultures.]
Landscape:
Short trees and scrubs. Most mountains are plateaus, terrain is hilly and rocky on 65% of the land surface.
Air: Normoxic concentration: 25% oxygen, 65% nitrogen, 5% xenon, 5% trace gases, such as hydrogen, neon, krypton, and argon.

Air Pressure: 17.02 pounds per square inch. Heavier than ship's air pressure, but breathable.
Sky: Blue/purple with silver clouds.
Sun: A class G2V, yellow star. The planet is unusually close to its sun, but its ozone layer is fully capable of filtering out harmful radiation.

Mission: Spiritual elders of the local inhabitants are in possession of an artifact of great importance to the war against the Ohm. The crew will participate in the inhabitants' rituals of judgment and joining to enter the region known as the Sacred Mount, where the artifact is being stored. The crew is to negotiate with the spiritual elders to acquire this artifact. The crew is expected to comply with any of their demands in order to successfully complete negotiations.

Time for another mission, then.

"Oh, wow... that's a good point actually. I've taken some meals down to the Sensoriums myself, but there's always a little voice in the back of my mind telling me that it's not real... actual food would be great," she said excitedly.

It took a moment to hit her that she was excited by the simple prospect of eating normal food. "...man, I can't believe just that is enough to get me worked up."

"Guess it is kinda sad, yeah," Allenby said with a rueful look. Granted, she'd always liked trying out the different food in the places she'd been on Earth, whenever she got the chance. But right now just the thought of a peanut butter sandwich made her stomach growl.

She looked back at the planet statistics on the giant screen. "But hey, the rest of the place sounds pretty interesting too! I mean... I've never seen an ocean that was purple before. And I can't wait to see what kind of crazy alien plants and stuff they've got there!"

"And most clouds only have silver on the lining, huh?" she stole from the cliche saying in a vain attempt at humor. It wasn't exactly her specialty, unfortunately.

Still, she looked forward to seeing new places no matter where she was, and a whole new planet was definitely a new experience. "Wonder if it's any good for swimming in?"

"Hah, exactly," Allenby said with a grin. Considering she'd been in love with a guy who--some might say--had more mutton in his head than brain cells, she didn't mind vain or hokey humor.

She stood on her tiptoes to get a better look at the screen over the large group of people. "We'll just have to find out when we get there! I wouldn't mind goin' swimming." She was about to add that there might even be sea monsters they could fight buuut... yeah, Cagalli wouldn't think that was so great. "It kinda doesn't sound like a place you could go to an arcade or other cool city stuff, but there's gotta be other folks there than spiritual elders, too. I betcha they have a lot of cool people to meet."

Not at all - Akatsuki's not exactly amphibious.

"There's a river here, but nothing's like the ocean... even if it's on a weird planet with a purple sky," she said, remembering the waters on Orb's coast. "Hopefully there are some people who can show us around if nothing else."

"Well, even if there aren't we oughta be able to figure things out on our own, right? I've explored cities plenty of times before, so I don't see that it'll be a problem." Allenby clasped her hands behind her head.

"I wonder what makes the sky purple, though? When we do get down there I'm gonna ask someone about that."

It is the evilest

"I've been in tougher places than this, so it shouldn't be a big deal." Cagalli crossed her arms, thinking back to Africa - if she could handle that, she could take whatever this planet threw at her.

"Well, it depends on their sun and the composition of the atmosphere, I guess." Her science knowledge wasn't especially deep, but that sounded good anyways.

Allenby chuckled. "I'll be sure to stick by you, then," she said, nudging Cagalli with an elbow.

Sun and atmosphere composition? ...Okay, she'd learned about that once. Probably when she was fourteen--fifteen, maybe, sciency stuff. She'd let it drop out of her head as soon as she'd marginally passed the tests; not like the military had cared about her grades either. "I guess so. Do you know a lot about that sorta thing?"

at least they aren't getting married Cagalli grinned. "Ha, I'll be keeping an eye on you so you don't get too distracted by food."

She shook her head at Allenby's question though. "Not really much of a scientist, just the standard stuff I learned from my tutor," she said. Her education was fairly advanced for a young Natural, even if she'd forgotten much of it.
