Spellcraft? Or Knowledge (arcana)? Who knows? [Open]
Having given warning to the crew as they asked -- and regretting the days in his own lands, where massive ground-shaking detonations would earn no more notice than a peddler with delicious folded bread -- Aibghalien stepped into the sensorium. With a wave of his hand he bade it produce the image of his former laboratory -- much like his current one, save the outer walls were constructed of massive blocks of stone, testament to its position in the tallest tower of the castle he once dwelt in.
Then, with more painstaking care than it seemed worth, he began forming duplicates of each of his magical items, pausing to laboriously inspect each one before setting it to one side, next to its actual twin.
This promised to be a fruitful night.

"Now then, this will require four steps, and if you can see any differences, I would be glad to hear of them." He gestured to two different pieces of rubble, each of which had an identical twin next to them. "The two in front are real, brought from the City. The two in back are replicas created by the sensorium. I will apply a disintegrate (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/disintegrate.htm) spell to the lefthand one, then its replica, then simulate the spell on the right-hand one and its replica."
So saying, he put actions to word; in sequence, a beam of light lanced from his finger four times, each bolt strike and evaporating one of the blocks.

She watched on with interest as he described what he was to do, noting the two pieces of rubble and their duplicates. Her eyes taking on a soft glow as she viewed the scene through her true sight, "Ready when you are," she would comment once he'd finish speaking.
With careful eyes she observed the way his magic worked both in the visible sense and in the flows of energy as he cast, watching each spell cast and simulated consume the boulders and their respective replica's. "Hmm, interesting, there was no visible difference whatsoever between the simulated spell and your cast spell, even in the appearance of the flows of magic,"
no subject
He shook his head a bit irritably, as if to clear it. "I agree with your assessment. In all cases it appeared identical. That, however, was a relatively small-scale effect."
He dissolved one wall of his simulated laboratory, opening to view a wide green field that certainly shouldn't have existed outside of a tower.
"This next spell is an illusion itself, which will make this field change in appearance -- probably to a forest, for no reason but aesthetics. The questions are, will the spell affect this simulation, and will its duplicate be able to precisely replicate it, or will it appear differently?"
no subject
Watching on with interest though as he spoke and dissolved one of the walls of the tower, an illusion? That took her interest all the more, illusions after all were among her specialties. "A fine question indeed, we shall see how the sensorium interprets the illusion, if it can construct an illusion within an illusion or will that level of thing cause differences..I am ready to observe when you are ready to cast,"

Without further preamble, he began the casting of a Hallucinatory Terrain (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/hallucinatoryTerrain.htm) spell. He was, in a sense, showing off -- the spell took a full ten minutes to cast, allowing Celena an excellent perspective on the entire process of the spell. Hand gestures, spoken words, the manipulation of a stone, a twig, and a leaf -- he put care and precision into each moment of the casting.
At last, the magical energies took shape and spread out over the green grasslands, creating a vast illusion of forest, right down to the most intricate of details.

Once more she drew on all of her senses, her 'true sight' among them as she observed every second of the casting of the spell. Taking in every careful and precise motion, every word of the spell, every motion of the energy that the spell would shape. She couldn't help but be impressed by the care and precision put into to the casting of the spell.
Finally once the magics were released and the illusion formed she padded towards it, taking it in with her normal senses before viewing the magic of the illusion through her true sight and the sheer extent of it, and the intricacy of the detail involved, "Impressive," she would say softly almost to herself before she would look back to him.
no subject
"Well, then. The curious thing is, I could probably replicate the spell in a fraction of the time by simply commanding the sensorium to unleash the shaped effect. I think I will make that attempt first, on the assumption that it is more likely to have a flaw or error in it than a perfectly duplicated spell."
So saying, he dismissed the illusion with a wave of his hand, then promptly resummoned it just as he had described.

Pondering a moment as he spoke, "Indeed, as long as one knows the intended effect it should be possible to summon it up with perhaps less time than the original," she commented as she watched on with interest as the illusion was dismissed and then resummoned as part of the sensoriums.
Approaching it once more she looked over it in some detail, looking for any sign of errors and differences compared to the actually cast spell.
no subject
He considered that, frowning. "I cannot devise a test that would distinguish the distance, however. Well then. If illusions are unenlightening, perhaps transmu--"
He paused mid-word, looking at his companion, then suddenly turned red enough that he had to turn away busy himself with dispelling the illusion, taking much longer than it really seemed it ought to.
no subject
Celena looked to him as he spoke, nodding softly before blinking suddenly at his abrupt cut off in sentence, "Transmutation?" she completed to herself almost out of habit tilting her head lightly, catching a brief glimpse of his reddening face as he turned to dispel illusion.
Watching him with curiosity for a moment, wondering just what he'd been thinking as to the matter of transmutation that had caused him to cut off so abruptly. Though she gave him a bit of space while he took his time dispelling the illusion.

"Such a dramatic change though could indeed prove to be that could put pressure on the sensorium's,"

So saying, he drew forth an empty cocoon from one of his pouches, spoke a few words, and gently (if a little shyly) touched her with an extended hand to complete the casting of Polymorph (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/polymorph.htm).

She watched on with great interest as he cast the spell, before she felt the change sweep over her as he completed it, taking particular note of the feel of the magic that changed her, shrunk her down a good deal down to the form of a leopard. Peering over herself as she took a moment to get used to the form, padding slowly around a bit before returning to stand before him, reaching out with telepathy as her voice spoke into his mind "Very interesting indeed,"
no subject
"It's a surprisingly versatile spell," he said. "Any number of forms are possible. The duration isn't long, but I know a more advance one that could put you in an alternate form for any amount of time, for example."
no subject
"Very much so, the ability to easily alter one's size shape and form is a useful thing indeed," She replied after a moment after looking over her form with that hint of a glow to her feline eyes before she cast her gaze back over to Aibghalien, "Oh indeed?" tilting her head with interest as to his other spell.
no subject
He stepped to a more clear area of the lab. "Now then, I suppose I ought to transform myself, so you can watch the process. Will you forgive me if I show off, just a bit?"
no subject
Celena gave something akin to a chuckle, or the best she could in her feline form, "Of course, feel free to," She replied with a hint of amusement in her tone as her eyes once more took on that soft glow as she watched him, a dip of her head as a signal that she was ready when he was.
no subject
He craned his neck, looking over himself curiously. "Well, this is different, isn't it? This is probably where you tell me I've made some grievous mistake in sexual dimorphism, though."
no subject
At his comment she couldn't help but smirk in her mind even if her feline features couldn't replicate it, seeming to look thoughtful as she walked around him once more, "Different indeed, and fortunately not, you're male still," She replied after with a chuckle.
no subject
He watched her circle round till he got a little dizzy from a neck that turned far further than seemed proper. Blinking, he shook his head as he brought it back to center. "This would take some getting used to. Maybe sometime I should really show off for you."
