Queries and Quibbles--mind your Q's

Something happens outside the ship. There's a concussive noise like something docking, and then the doors to Obs open again, to reveal a mostly intact, but somewhat bedraggled away team. One of them is injured, and part of the group works to get her down to MedBay, some of the others look stoic and a touch upset with what they've learned.

Some look pissed off that their various morphers and power suits have been stolen away from them again by Stacy's tentacles or dampened.

Something happens INSIDE the ship. A handful of individuals are released from their pods after quite some time of running imaginary mazes.

Kelly spots him first, how could she not? And the instant that she does she can't help but break into a smile. Moving to flank him she comes up beside him from outside his field of view and punches him in the shoulder, hard.

"Always getting yourself in trouble aren't you?"

The Chief tenses and manages to stop an instinctive retaliation before it can turn into an action.

He knows that voice. And that punch.

"Hello Kelly." He returns a slightly strained smile. In some ways, he's better off and worse off than he was when she last saw him. He's completely uninjured, but he's clearly worn out.

She sees him tense and smirks slightly, ready to duck out of harm's way if he lashes out. But he doesn't. So that's awesome.

Well of course he would know them. He's been on the receiving end of both for years upon years now.

"You look like shit, John. What've you been getting yourself into up here?" That is of course, said in the nicest way possible that a Spartan can say it.

The Chief sighs. It's good to see Kelly, it's a relief that someone he knows is here. On the other hand, it means she's not at home where she's probably needed.

"The usual. Flying blind by the seat of the pants and running on too little sleep. How much did the others fill you in on?"

He looks how he feels, Kelly.

Kelly's pretty glad she's not home, home where she was about to get exploded by a Hunter team. The ship isn't too bad once you get used to it.

"Nothing really. We've been abducted by a sentient ship that send us on missions for an unknown purpose. That's about all I've been able to get."

She can tell. Don't worry ~~big sister~~ Kelly is here to watch your back now.

"That's about all she's told us," he says.

"I woke up... a while ago. Hard to gauge time here, no clocks. No day-night cycle. Feels like weeks, but I can't tell. We have a loose command structure together, I'm sharing Lieutenant Commander with Cybil Bennet and I'm head of ship security."

"Also just finished heading up a ground team." He says it evenly, but his eyes flick off toward the medical bay for a split second. Leela's in there, and it's to some degree his fault.

She nods. "I figured as much. She doesn't seem very forthcoming with information."

"Head of security, huh? Suits you. And it doesn't seem like all the ships crew members are friendlies."

Her eyes follow his gaze to the injured woman before she looks back at him. "What happened to her?"

"Cortana can't even get anything out of her. I've managed to speak to her once and she's tied down tight." This really bothers him. If Stacy can keep Cortana pinned in a corner, she has to be probably the most advanced AI he's ever seen. Bar none.

"Unfortunately. For the most part we're trying to keep the group from falling apart, we're all harder to kill together. Mostly civilian though, it's difficult to get anything done."

"A member of my team walked off and stepped on a nest of insects. She tackled him and knocked him out of the way, and they got her. She's the only one wounded."

Despite how well things turned out, this has been a really crappy day in the life of John.

"Cortana, the smart AI? That's a pretty hard thing to do." Kelly doesn't know much about Cortana, but she knows the capabilities of smart AIs, she's heard about them anyway, and to keep one out would be no small feat.

She makes a sort of irritated sound. She can't stand trying to work with civilians.

"What was he walking off for?"

"They were arguing. They're kids, Kelly. Kids." By which he means, they don't know any better, don't belong here, and unless they shape up are going to cause him a lot of grief.

"I'm praying they learned their lesson, but I'm still talking to both of them later. But before that I'm going to need a long nap."

She gives a snort of derision. "When we were kids we still knew better than to go traipsing off alone in dangerous territory. No matter what the argument." Kelly would volunteer to whip them into shape. But Chief probably wants all of them to stay alive. And that can't really be guaranteed if Kelly takes over.

"Need any back-up on that one, I'm used to being your wingman." She flashes him a thumbs up. "You look like you need a year's sleep."

"We're Spartans," he says simply. Neither Kelly nor John's childhoods come anywhere close to normal. "Most of them know better, and if Cale didn't learn from that I'm going to beat it into him." He does, however, think Cale gets it. Just to judge by his reaction to the whole ordeal.

"Thanks, Kelly. I think I'll scare them enough on my own, though." When you're a Spartan it doesn't take much effort to turn on the intimidating, after all. "And I could use it. But I've got a lot of work to do."

She shrugs. "Doesn't make a difference. In a dangerous situation it's common sense not to go in and get yourself killed." If Cale doesn't get it, Kelly will force John to tell her who he is and then she'll go beat it into him.

"You can never be too scared." That's said with a half smirk. She knows. Oh how she knows. "You're no use to anyone half dead."
