There's Snow Place Like Home [Bendytimed to between the Ohm simulation and the Second Life plot]
A recent walk through the hangar had confirmed to Jamie that the TARDIS had been put back into whatever place it was that Stacy stored ships when their owners were in the pods. Overall, it didn't make too much difference - none of them had been able to get into it anyway. Still, he had liked to slip away from time to time just to take a look at it and remember the adventures he had gone on with the Doctor. Part of him had been hoping somehow that it would have stayed somewhere where he could do that again. Even though he hadn't really admitted it to his friends, he missed the Time Lord not being around.
So it may not come as much of a surprise that the Sensoriums currently has a TARDIS in it. The wide expanse of snow surrounding it might be a little more unusual, but it does provide an easy way to figure out where the current creator of this particular scenario would be - should anyone care to follow the Jamie-sized footprints to the door of the seemingly blue wooden box. If not, well, there's a lot of the white stuff just sitting around waiting for someone to do something with it.
((OOC: Jamie is in the TARDIS if you want to pester him but if for some reason anyone wants to just use the setting for their own-snow related threads, feel free. Just mention somewhere if you're going in the TARDIS or if you want Jamie to come outside.))

It does make some things easier, like not worrying over much just how everything does fit inside such a small space. It just does, and that's fine by him.
He stands back a little, giving Kaylee the space to move around the room more freely and investigate whatever she wishes to. The Chinese, as always, is a wee bit curious. Jamie can tell by the tone that she's not saying anything bad - an observation backed up by the way she's interacting with the room. Still, he hasn't picked up enough of it to understand the words, and he finds he'd like to know what they mean, in this case.
"What is it you're telling her, Kaylee?"
no subject
She's almost forgotten about Jamie by the time he speaks up again, and she beams at him as she gives the closest panel a nice pet.
"How pretty she is, of course!" Because honestly, Serenity is gorgeous and Kaylee wouldn't trade her for anything, but the TARDIS is a thing of beauty all her own.
no subject
"Aye, well, I'd not really thought about the TARDIS as being pretty, but if that's what ye want to call her..."
He trails off, and shrugs. He doesn't see where it would do any harm. Idly, he wonders what, if anything, would happen were she in the TARDIS for real and said that. The Doctor would probably like it, at any rate.
"Do ye want to look around here some more or take a wee bit of a walk around instead?"
no subject
"Jamie, ain't no gal in any 'verse don't like bein' told she's pretty."
True fact, that.
Kaylee's ready to dive on into more lines when he mentions walking around the ship. Her head pops back up, followed shortly by the rest of her, and she bounces enthusiastically back toward Jamie.
"Where to, then?"
no subject
Possibly even starting with Kaylee.
He waits for her to surface from the configuration of wires and lines and parts, tucking his thumbs behind his sporran while he does so. It's quicker than he thought, given where they were, and while he's a little surprised, it's in a pleasant sort of way.
"Well, there's a few places ye can choose from. I could show ye the kitchens, or the gallery, or the wardrobe..."
hrrrngh sorry it took me so long dfzkbjerkjadf;
As Jamie lists out tour options Kaylee listens attentively, until he hits that last one and then she really can't help but grin like a little girl who'd just been told she could try on all her grandmother's hats. She plays it off as just general excitement at all of the options, though, because she really would like to see everything.
"Wouldn't mind seein' the wardrobe..."
Pfft. Don't worry about it.
Either it's a fair distance from the power room, or Jamie's taking the long route to get there. He's not being particularly clear on which at the moment. It does allow Kaylee to catch a glimpse of various other passages if she likes - although it's hard to tell if they lead anywhere. The pattern of white rondels is very similar to the ones found in the console room, and some people may think it all feels like one giant twisty corridor. For all Jamie knows, it might very well be just that.
Eventually, though, Jamie stops in front of a set of doors, and pushes them open. "Here we are. I think there might be a few odd dresses and things in here if ye want to take a look."
but it's what I'm best at :<
Jamie would probably be the same way if they found themselves in a music store. That's enough to keep her from feeling too bad about slowing him down at all.
Her eyes light up at the sight of the room, and thoughts of little panels she didn't get to explore on the way are lost completely. This room...is magnificent. She's already itching to try on anything and everything.
"Thought you meant a closet or somethin' when you said wardrobe, Jamie. Not all this..."
no subject
The wardrobe room's not as grand as it will be eventually, after the Doctor's had a few more centuries to accumulate clothes left behind by former companions and picked up the odd piece here and there. Still, it's a decent enough sized room, and chock full of clothing.
"Aye, well, the Doctor's got to keep clothes somewhere, hasn't he?" There were a few in the chest, but that was only Zoe-sized, and that can't hold everything.
Jamie wanders past a coat rack that seems to be swallowed up by a giant furry coat, and over to another section that has a couple of longer racks that can be pulled out from the wall. Reaching in, he grasps on and brings it out enough that a glimpse of masculine-looking garments can be seen.
"Och, that's not it." He puts it back, then goes over to the next rack. This one appears to have dresses. Lots and lots of dresses. Looking back over his shoulder, Jamie says dryly, "He may have a few wee things, though."
no subject
But oh, look! the racks wheel out and this is an exciting discovery that Kaylee experiments with on the closest rack. Nothing special about it, but there are more clothes behind the clothes.
When Jamie's found the rack he's looking for, Kaylee bounds excitedly over to join him, and almost immediately sets in on sifting through all of the dresses. She even pulls a couple of the shorter ones out for closer inspection. "Been collectin' for a long while, ain't he?"
no subject
"Well, aye. If he's to be believed, he's likely been doing so for centuries." He can't even imagine what the wardrobe room would be like now for oh, say, Ten.
"Let me know if there's any you want to try on, and I'll show ye where ye can change."
no subject
Unfortunately for Jamie, Kaylee loses interest in the short dresses fairly quickly. Instead, she seems to have found a rather large, somewhat fluffy dress that looks as though it came straight out of Earth-That-Was' mid-1800s.
"Could I? Y'think he'd mind?" It's a bit of a silly question, considering they're in the Sensoriums, but it never hurts to double-check.
no subject
"It's not like the Doctor wears dresses unless he has to, so I'd not think he'd..."
An idle glance up stops him mid-sentence. He recognizes that particular dress, of course, and the chances are that it's locked safely away in the real TARDIS. But to see Kaylee holding the gown Victoria had worn when he first met her wasn't at all what he was expecting. Really, it should have been - but he hadn't even thought about it on a conscious level until right at that moment.
Subconsciously, well, that's a whole other story.
"...mind."
no subject
It doesn't take a genius to see that something's slightly off about the dress. Kaylee peers at Jamie, turning the dress in her hands to get a better angle of it. For once, Kaylee can't quite place the look on his face, and she's not sure what to think. Nothing seems to be wrong with the dress, so it's got to be something else, something like...
Oh. Oh.
"...Jamie?" Kaylee is embarrassed and curious all at once, and it comes off on her face as a clumsy bit of a smile. "If it's...if I shouldn't be tryin'...there're lots more things to be doin' too, yeah?"
no subject
Still somewhat stunned by the sight of the dress, he doesn't respond immediately. It takes a small amount of effort to pull himself together enough to reply. "N-no, it's fine. She...Victoria, I mean. She left it behind when...when she decided to stay with the Harrises. I've not seen it for awhile, that's all."
It wasn't who she was anymore, so why take it with her? Jamie rubs at the back of his head, and says, a bit lamely, "Ah, I think she was a few inches shorter than ye are. It might not fit exactly right." He hesitates for a second or two, then adds, "But ye can try it on if ye like."
...apologies for the last tag? "on occasionally" what the hell is grammar, self.
Poor Jamie's floundering a bit. Kaylee gives him a small smile, and looks over the dress once more before wordlessly sliding it back onto the rack and continuing down the line. It's not her place to tread, and it never will be. The least she can do is respect that.
It's magic text that scans as perfectly normal at 5 am.
However, from her reaction when she pulled the dress out in the first place, he's thinking that she might have enjoyed trying on something big and fluffy like that, and he points a little ways down the rack.
"There's some ball gowns down there," he says, trying to be helpful. Really, Jamie tries not to think too much about why they're there, but the fact is there are a few to be had, and he knows Victoria never wore them. "Ye might like a few of those."
Apparently so, if you were able to write a coherent response after reading it.
Ball gowns, though. Kaylee's ever only tried on one ball gown in her life (not counting those for masquerades in the Sensoriums), and she is more than eager to move just a little quicker down the line of dresses to get to those gowns. She's careful to watch for any reactions Jamie might have out of the corner of her eye as she looks.
Finally, she pulls out a teal dress with one side that opens up to ruffles underneath that just make it impossible to resist. Eagerly, she looks back to Jamie. "This one, you think?"
no subject
He tucks his thumbs behind his belt and waits while she goes through the dresses, his thoughts drifting back to Victoria after a few minutes of watching. Would she have minded Kaylee trying on the dress? He doesn't think so, but...
It takes a few seconds for him to register he's being asked a question. "Mm? Oh, aye." He obligingly takes a closer look at the dress. He vaguely recognizes it, but only in the most basic way. Nothing there to cause any problems. "Aye, that should be fine. The changing area's just over there."
no subject
When twirls back out to beam at Jamie, and nods at the rack closest to her.
"Ain't you gonna try anythin' on, then?"
Even if he probably has a thousand times over...
no subject
But every time he sees her in one, he can't help but think that she looks bonny in them. And that she looks happy, as well. This time is no exception, even if it's a little tight on her. Although...if Jamie's going to be honest with himself, he actually likes that even better. Whichever way you slice it, though, they suit her, and he smiles.
He decides that now might be a good time to take her advice, and he starts to do just that. "Kaylee, ye...oh." He's neatly distracted by the nod over to the rack, and turns to look at it, compliment temporarily forgotten. There's a familiar looking plaid in that rack, and he goes over to pull it free - although he attempts to place his body between her and it, just so she doesn't get any bright ideas about dressing him up in something with pants.
"Aye, well, I'd not thought to do so, but maybe I could at that."
no subject
There are plenty of nice suits on this rack, and she's contemplating suggesting one or two of them to Jamie. He let her pick her own garment to try on, though, so she decides against pressing and just continues down the line of suits without comment otherwise. "We got time, 'n I don't think it'd hurt a flea if you did."
Come on, Jamie. Live a little, play dress up.
no subject
"Aye," Jamie says, folding his bundle of clothing over so it simply looks like a mass of cloth. "I'd not say you'd be wrong there."
He disappears into the same changing area that she was just in, and is gone for quite a bit longer than if he had been putting on a simple suit. When he comes out, though, he's still wearing a kilt. It just happens to be a great kilt, complete with the extra fabric worn as a plaid over his shoulder. There's also a 18th-century coat, a shirt with frilled edges and a sash with silver accents holding the plaid in place. The plantsuit appears to be nowhere to be seen.
"Well?" he asks Kaylee, curious to see what her reaction is.
no subject
She looks up from another dress--this one a more velvety black--when Jamie calls for attention. While a part of her had hoped to see him venture out of his comfort zone some, she can't help but admit that he looks absolutely shiny in this fancy get-up.
"Completely dashin'," the mechanic replies, sincere as can be. "Suits you."
no subject
Smoothing down the plaid over his shoulder for a moment, his gaze alights on the black velvet dress that she's been looking at. "Why don't ye try that on on as well?"
He knows it's a slightly different cut, and not as colorful as the dresses she usually likes to wear. But a small part of him wants to see what she looks like in the dress all the same.
"Like ye said, we have time."
