The Rebirth of Veronica (Phase One)

[ooc: PLOT POST IS HERE! Read it!]

He stalked through the hallways like a shadow, moving too quickly for anyone to keep a bead on him for long. There almost seemed to be a purpose in his movement as he made his way through the dark corridors of the ship, though it was impossible to tell where he was headed. Perhaps the young man whose body had been hijacked was exerting some kind of control, or perhaps Veronica was doing the driving.

Whatever the case, the Tyrant made his way to the City.

He emerged from the tunnels and into the wide open space, at last free of the cramped hallway. He took a few steps into the streets and sniffed the air, smelling human blood. He roared, a horrible and twisted noise, then headed into the streets.

She demanded they all bow to her. They were little more than prey for the Queen in the grand scale of things. These thoughts rang hollow in a primal mind, though, but he knew what he had to do.

They would all die.

Good hearing and quick, Coordinator reflexes would aid Yzak in that moment. He heard the loud cry of the monster and snapped around just in time to see it coming right toward him. He leaped out of the way just in time from the tyrant's first swing at him, quickly regaining his composure and staring up at it, eyes wide.

Of all the god damned luck--

He remembered Luis' message. It was a crew member-- did that mean, despite its attacks, he shouldn't try to kill it? All of these thoughts rushed into Yzak's mind at once, and he very quickly came to the best conclusion. At least for now. He reached for his gun and whipped it up, aiming two shots at the monster's leg and shoulder in an attempt to possibly disable it. Whether bullets would do anything, Yzak would probably quickly find out.

Well, slowing down was something, at least.

"--Shit!"

Taking the initiative in that moment of flinching, Yzak moved to hide behind a gate nearby. He wouldn't idle there for very long, however-- he had the slightest feeling that a gate wasn't exactly something to stand up to something to huge. But he had to think of something-- especially if bullets weren't working...

Yzak peered out and over toward him, muttering under his breath. This thing was dangerous, crew member or not. And they definitely weren't the only two beings in the city, if it ran into others less reflexive and able to defend themselves...

Yzak looked around, eyes landing on a building nearby. Maybe...

The close proximity and sudden break-through caught Yzak enough to cause him to stumble a few feet in response. Wasting precious extra seconds that he tried to make up for by bringing his weapon up again.

And knocked away Yzak was. He hit the floor hard, but despite the sear of pain that rushed through his body when he was hit, he had to think fast and not stop moving, or else he'd feel a hell of a lot more than just pain.

He rolled to the side to avoid any other immediate attacks, and forced himself to deal with the stinging on his arm and his side as he pushed himself back to a crouching position. And then, as risky as it was to move closer to the tyrant, Yzak made a daring leap to try and roll between his legs to give himself enough time for his next attempt at something.

So far, so good.

Now, Yzak had to make sure it was still following him. He fired another shot, aiming to miss.

--faster than Yzak expected. He turned and moved, only just getting out of the way but not without his forearm feeling the impact of that fist.

But Coordinators were a lot faster than normal humans, too. And with the dull throbbing in his arm in addition to what he already felt, Yzak knew it was getting close to do or die. So with a rush of adrenaline, he sprinted straight ahead as fast as he could toward a building. He didn't didn't bother to look back over his shoulder to see if the tyrant was following him-- he knew well enough that it probably was.

The moment Yzak made it to the building's wall, he quickly turned to see how close Steve was behind him. And focusing as much as he could to try and time it right, Yzak would attempt to jump out of the way from the charge in hopes that Steve wouldn't be able to stop without hitting the building and slowing himself down as a result.

With that extra time, Yzak hurried to an alleyway nearby. He tried to stay quiet as he moved over rubble and objects sos not to get the monster's attention once it was out and focusing on its target again. Standing behind a wooden structure in case it happened to peer down the alley, he stood still, listening for anything. Its movement, it's sound, waiting to hear for it either coming closer or moving away.

Yzak didn't move until the sound of the retreating Tyrant was completely gone. He let out a sigh of relief, and as the rush from the battle drained from his body, the pain from his injuries took up the void it left. He slumped down the wall, cringing and holding his side. He just hoped the Tyrant didn't change its mind about its direction, because now that he was sitting, it would be that much harder to force himself to really move again right away.

But there was something more important to take care of right now. Yzak reached for his omnicomm, quickly sending out a message to the others.
