Halloween Party

Who knows why the ship was doing this. Maybe it was some kind of social experiment. Maybe Stacy was feeling festive and somewhere, out there, it was Halloween. Maybe the players just wanted to have Halloween fun. No one would ever know, would they.

In any case, what better place for a Halloween dance than a graveyard? In an area in the center, clear of headstones, there was a dance floor, and there were seats and tables with skeletal frames. Somehow grisly carved torches and jack-o-lanterns of varying sizes and shapes, cast enough eerie light to light up the place, despite the fact it was night. There were places to bob for apples, popcorn balls on strings strung up for people to try to eat for games involving that. The food tables will full of Halloweeny snacks and candy.

Far off, there was a haunted house, decrepit and foreboding. It seemed people could look into it if they dared sent down the dark trail to where it was. [ooc: Haunted house post link forthcoming].

Creepy--but danceable music was playing, from nowhere.

Perhaps most notable was the fact that the moment someone entered the Sensorium, they would find themselves in a costume. Sometimes these costumes would be what the character themselves would choose, but sometimes they'd be dressed as something strange, embarrassing, or just something they wouldn't even recognize. Leaving and coming back wouldn't fix the problem, in most cases. The costumes wouldn't change, and if they did, it wasn't guaranteed that they'd change to something better.

Whatever the case, party hard, Meatship. Somebody's got to teach the Vikings, draconians, aliens, and other sundry people to Thriller dance.

"Well, you look good."

Sofia craned her head so she could look at her wings for a moment before turning back to Billy. "Sort of. The costume is from a dream I kept having before I came here."

Feeling shy, he reached up to tweak his goggles. They were definitely making his hair a mess. Was it attractively messy? Hell if he knew.

"You're...stunning," he admitted, admiring how the colors and armor presented her in the best possible light. And those wings!

"What did you think of the dream?"

Sofia turned a bright red. "Thank you. It- was not a very pleasant dream. But at least it was fun when I was flying."

"I'm sorry," he offered, looking down. He knew all about nightmares. "But---yes, of course flying is fun! Sometimes I wish I could," Billy thought wistfully.

"It's a shame that building a jetpack is so prohibitively inefficient. I never found a way to do it." Maybe someday?

But he was getting way off-topic. He'd have to work harder at stopping his scientific ramblings before they started if he ever wanted to socialize properly. "Have you taken part in the activities yet?"

"I'll take you flying later." Sofia said with a smile. "I only just got here. Do you want to go dancing?"

"We can do that? Wow, I'll be honored," he said in a rush, wide smile cracking his face.

"It's worth a try. I think I have an idea of how these dances work," he says with little confidence, studying everyone else's movements.

"Like I said before, just go with it." Sofia said, pulling him onto the dance floor.

"It's that easy?"

Billy allowed himself to be pulled, still wearing that faint smile. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.

"It's a fast one. Have you done it before?" he asked, still trying to memorize the foot patterns of the dancers as they walked.

"No, I haven't." But she was doing a good job keeping up. And what she didn't know she improvised. "Just keep smiling and no one will notice if you mess up."

"Right. Unless we trip and cause each other pain," his inner cynic couldn't help but add.

Still, it was easy to smile when dancing with her. Ups, downs, and sides. Hey, this wasn't too bad!

"So how often did you use that smiling trick?"

"All the time. It works, doesn't it?" And she flashed him some more of that irresistible grin.

"It works for me," he replied, smiling back. And so far, no accidents! Maybe there really was something to this.

They continued to dance, confidence and coordination growing. Not perfect, but just fine for them! It eventually prompted him to say "...why was I worried?"

"My friends used to say that that was courage," he remembered, making his movements bolder. "So that's all it takes."

"It is. And you're very good at it. Courage and dancing." Sofia was having a blast, she didn't even seem to worry about how her feet were moving at all. Maybe because she'd danced enough that she hardly had to think about it.

"Thanks," Billy whispered, faint blush staining his cheeks.

When the notes faded, he stepped back and bowed to her. "T'was an honor to dance with you," he said grandly with a grin.
