Mission 01: Recovery [Briefing]

The Meeting is interrupted.

There is a resounding mental alarum that sounds through the ship. Nearly "deafening." Lights flash from places for extra emphasis, making it impossible to ignore.

||Attention, Attention. All personnel please report to the Observation Deck. Attention, Attention. All personnel please report to the Observation Deck. Attention, Attention, all personnel...||

They can hear it through the meeting bubble and Jaime drops it.

It's entirely likely that she won't stop repeating the announcement until, well, everyone reports to Obs Deck. The mouth in the huge statue opens, revealing a screen. On it, the dossier for the mission flickers into display, understandable to every person there. Smaller copies of the dossier appear in holographic form in front of everyone.

The planet's stats, right next to a rotating picture of it, marled blue and green, are as follows:

Planet Designation: Earth-534A342Z
Status: Terrestrial, H-class.
Non-sentient life: Extensive flora and fauna.
Semi-Sentient Life: Yes.
Sentient Life: No.
Water: 82% of the planet's surface.

Climate: Similar to Earth's Mediterranean climates/desert climates in some areas. [Click here for cultural equivalents for non-Earth cultures.]
Landscape: Varied. Lightning storms plague the plains and mountain plateaus. Tectonic upheaveal.
Air: Normoxic concentration: 28% oxygen, 62% nitrogen, 5% xenon, 5% trace gases, such as hydrogen, krypton, and argon.

Air Pressure: 14.543 pounds per square inch.
Sky: Blue with orangeish-gold clouds (clouds ride rather low in the sky due to gravity being stronger and therefore reflect the colors on the surfaces of the plateaus.
Sun: A class M5V, a red dwarf star.

Warnings: Wildlife and plant-life can be hazardous.

Mission: Track escape pod vessels with the scanners provided. Manually activate recovery processes. Return to Main Planet Pod.

--

Following that, there is a table displaying the escape pods--they looked like little bugs or maybe giant beans. Something between plant and insect.

||Attention, podmates. Attention.||

Apparently Stacy wants their attention.

||It is critical that you pay attention at this time.||

Leon looked over at Kon, then Picard, then up at the ceiling.

"...hn."

Point Picard.

"...you just got Stacy to back down. That- that was- YOU ARE SLAGGING AWESOME!"

"A minor concussion. He'll be fine," Brainy says, after scanning Kon with his omnicom. Creating a stretcher under the prone teenager with his shield powers, he cautiously flies Superboy off. The door seals again after him, and the blocking tentacles withdraw.

Cassie watches Kon leave with Brainy with gritted teeth. Again there's that temptation to go with, but she stays, as ordered, obviously riled.

Tim straightens and watches Brainy leave with Kon. "He'll be fine," he mutters to Cassie, reassuring himself as much as he's reassuring her.

He glances up at the ceiling. "You know, Stacy," he says conversationally. "Slamming our friends around the observation deck doesn't exactly make any of us more cooperative." No, he's not actually considering defiance... at the moment... but he's still seriously pissed.

Geoffrey, who has been watching all of this with his head lowered, now shakes it, looking at Tim. "You need to shut up." If it was Wat, he'd have hit him, but it wasn't. Even if the rest of the crew insisted on acting just as stupidly.

Stacy's rules all seem very simple to the man from the heyday of feudalism, though that's not to say that the fact he's on the roster to go doesn't frighten him. It does, and he still wants to go home. But for now, he sees no reason to fight. Subversiveness is more his style.

"Risking her further anger just to sound brave or vent helps no one, and certainly not your friend."

"Yeah? Well neither does lining up like a bunch of lambs to the slaughter like everyone else around here seems to be doing," Sawyer snapped as he moved back from the sealed door and joined the group. "At least these kids have the balls to do somethin' instead of just bendin' over like b*#@#es like the rest of you all."

Tim raises an eyebrow at Sawyer. "I don't think anyone's bending over. And I'm all for cooperation," he adds, glancing at Chaucer (Dude. Chaucer. Like--for real). "Just--not when it involves my best friend getting his skull bashed against a wall."

"Or anybody's for that matter. We're only putting up with it since alternate is... head injuries. At least Cap... er Captain got her to back down a little."

Chaucer stares at Sawyer for a minute before turning away from the other man. While definitely good at gambling, he is not otherwise worth Geoff's time.

As for the others, well, it's like talking to a mob of Wats and Wills, though at least one of them seems to be listening. Jeezy, Geoff hopes his own children will be better-behaved by this age. Or at least smarter about it.

"Then let us get our... 'briefing' finished with as little muttering as possible, and maybe you can visit him before we're whisked away. Hopefully without sustaining any more casualties to over-bluntness."
