Kneel before your god

Shiva spoke through the comms (not the omnicomms) directly into the minds of the crew.

«I am Shiva. I am the destroyer of all that you know and the creator of a grand new empire. For months you thought of me as my host, Charles Kawalsky, but now you shall see me in all my glory. I have positioned bombs throughout this vessel, including the pod caverns. I need but press the trigger and they will explode. I also have one hostage of my own, Sheryl. You will not be able to stop me. I am fully equipped with a power dampener, and a forcefield. I am untouchable. You have one hour to surrender yourselves to me and begin your new lives as my slaves.»

His eyes flashed gold and he held his hostage firmly. He did not wish to wait, but if he tired of this he would amend his demands. For now he stayed in one of the areas in the City hidden from Stacy’s view, in the middle of a pile of rubble, with not a landmark in sight.

Still, he knew they would come.

No, no, please not this, no.

Devlin was running through the city, half-blind with panic as he looked for anyone he knew. Ben, Nura, Negi, Hikari. They had to be safe, he couldn't let them be blown up or taken hostages or made slaves...

He wiped his eyes as he ran, desperately searching. It felt like his father's attack all over again. He'd been--they'd been duped by someone they thought they could trust. Now they were in danger, and he couldn't do anything about it. He hadn't been able to do anything helpful against Kevin ~~that wasn't true; he'd managed to get him in the Null Void capsule, but that was only after Ben had defeated him~~. What could he do here?

There's a very worried voice close by. Incredibly worried. And the sound of high-heels clacking on the ground.

Familiar?

"Ben? May?" A pause. "Devlin?"

"Nura," Devlin realized.

He ran toward her, fully intent on hugging her as tightly as he could. He felt like a stupid little kid, but he was scared. He didn't know what to do, and without knowing where everyone was and if they were okay, he felt completely helpless.

Nura feels something collide with and wrap arms around her. She looks down, hands finding themselves in hair, and feels a surge of relief when she finds that Devlin is the one leaning against her.

"Oh thank the gods of Naltor that you're all right." She gives him a reassuring squeeze of consoling.

It took Devlin some time before he was able to let go, and he looked up at Nura, still fearful.

"Where is everyone? What are we going to do?"

"They're probably somewhere else on the ship." She runs a comforting hand through his hair. "And the Captain won't let anything happen to us. He's a very resourceful man." She knows jacksquat about the Captain. But Devlin needs the support, so she'll give it. "It's why he was voted the Captain."

He nodded, not feeling better, per se, but a little more comforted at least.

"Nura, we have to do something," he insisted. "Everyone's in danger, and he's got a hostage."

"We will. We will. The Captain must have already found out and must be doing something about it at this very moment." Gods of Naltor she hopes he is doing exactly that. "We could rush Shiva right now, and we'd probably only make things a little worse because we don't have all the information. Best to wait for the Captain's orders...and listen."

She bends over a little gives his shoulders a reassuring squeeze. "Now...let's go find the others, okay?"

"Okay," he agreed a little reluctantly. He needed to know if the others were okay, but at the same time, he didn't want to just have to sit around and wait.

Hikari and Tailmon had both heard the message. And they couldn't do much of anything, if what this "Lord Shiva" had said was true. They needed, they needed to figure something out. There had to be some way of stopping him.

Hikari noticed someone moving by, and before Tailmon could even react, she threw herself at him. "Devlin!"

Devlin wasted no time in hugging Hikari back, reservations be damned.

"I'm glad you're okay," he mumbled.

Hikari hugged him back just as eagerly, and tightly. "Me too..."

He had to get his fear under control. Slowly letting go, he said, "We need to do something. Maybe not against Shiva or the bombs, but..."

Hikari nodded, frowning a bit. "There needs to be something, someway... I... hate feeling useless."

"Me too," he agreed, glancing back at Nura. He didn't want to have to leave her either if she was still worried about May and Ben, but if he could find something where he and Hikari could actually help...

"You think we should ask if there's any way we can help?" he asked, even though he knew it sounded stupid. How many adults would be taking the kids seriously, even if they had powers?

Hikari nodded. "We should try, definitely..." she said.

Tailmon took this moment to walk over to them. "Hikari. Who is this?"

Hikari blinked, looking over at Tailmon. "My b... friend. He's a friend of mine."

Oh, right. The cat--er, Digimon. Wow, could the timing be any worse?

"Um, I'm Devlin," he said. "But right now, we need to do something."

Hikari nodded. "But... we're going to have to ask the Captain. Or whoever's in charge of figuring things out... we can't do things by ourselves, not like this..."

Tailmon sighed. "Then go find them."

Devlin glanced over at Nura again briefly before nodding. He didn't want to leave her behind, especially with everyone else missing, but if he was with Hikari, they'd both be okay, right?

He reached for her hand.

"Yeah, let's go."

Nura sees them go and turns her head, grasping at her skirt on instinct. She doesn't want to see them go, but she knows that she can't tell them what do. And they appear to be very determined.

"The two of you be careful, alright?" she hollers. "Call me on the comm if you encounter anything suspicious."

"Got it!" Devlin promised.

Hikari nodded. "Okay, we will!"
