Master of the Pielements [open]

The Person: Aang, the Avatar, master of all four elements, truly an individual to be reckoned with.

The Place: The Lounge. Right now, he was in the kitchen practicing his Airbending via the highly deadly art of--

Making fruit pies. What? It took some very precise Airbending to get the fruit fluff all fluffy on top. Good practice.

And eating the fruits of his labor was, uh...exercise for his jaw, yeah. And stomach.

Okay, so he was just hankering for cake after all that time with GLaDoS. It was still good Airbending practice, though.

And he brought the rest out to be served to whoever had a hankering for confectioneries.

"Hey, do you want a piece of fruit pie?"

Come and let me bake you the pie of my people.

"There is already food here. You do not think of this as a waste of supplies?"

"You can only really use the ingredients for a fruit pie to make some kind of sweets. It's mostly sugar. The supplies here are meant to be cooked up as food and enjoyed. And it's a way of sharing something of my people with others, after what happened to them."

Vader is still not impressed.

"I assume your people died from lack of proper nutrition, then."

This is not a joke.

"Actually, they were killed by a conquering nation. All of them."

Not a joke.

"I can see why, if this is how they spent all of their time. How fortunate you escaped."

The insults against his people were nothing he'd never heard before. In fact, in the Fire Nation school he'd sneaked into, they'd lied about them attacking the Fire Nation first.

"I'm just lucky, I guess," Aang said, Airbending the fluff of another fruit pie.

Vader forgot his ire at Aang for enjoying himself and found something new to froth over.

"I do not sense the Force in you," he said, frowning, "but you appear to be utilizing it."

"I'm Airbending. It's a gift all of my people had, the ability to manipulate air."

There. Another perfect fruit pie.

"Part of why we made fruit pies was to practice fine control of our Airbending."

Suddenly, Vader made the connection.

"I have heard others talk of bending," he said, disdainfully, "and of their Avatar. I cannot say I care for him."

"Really? What don't you like about the Avatar?" Aang asked, the picture of innocence.

"I understand he is a being of great power-- almost as great as my son," Vader said, "or so he is described-- and yet he does not keep the people of his world in line as he should."

"How should he keep them in line?"

He was enjoying this just a little too much.

"By any means necessary," Vader said, darkly. "It should be clear when the time for making speeches is over and the time for bringing your enemy to their knees has begun."

"So it doesn't matter at all that his world was a world at peace before the Ohm came?"

Vader scoffed. "Such peace is always temporary. Greedy men can sense a power void the way sharks smell blood in the water. If they do not believe someone would punish them for disrupting the order of things, they will do whatever they please."

"The Avatar is eternal. That means there will always be someone there to bring order back to the world."

"He is immortal? Incapable of being killed? Then why settle for simply talking when he is an indestructible vessel of justice?"

"Not immortal. The Avatar can die. But every time he or she dies, they're reborn and master the elements once again. And there's nothing wrong with talking. Talking is a good way to solve problems. Just like fighting isn't bad when you know when to stop and let people talk."

Aang was focusing on prettying up his cakes as he talked.

"To bring balance to the world, the Avatar must be balanced him or herself. They have to know when to fight, when to stop fighting, when it's time for talking, and when it's time for listening. They have to know when it's time for peace and when it's time for action."

"Reborn? So it is a title that is passed down, a rank?" Vader frowned.

"While this deliberation takes place, people die."

"It's a spirit that passes down."

Aang said, "And people always die. That's the way of the world."

"A spirit that takes over a new host once the old one is no longer useful?" Vader asked, thoughtfully. "I have heard of Sith who knew such a power."

Vader glared down at Aang, now at a tangible point he was able to refute. "My master has the power to stop death and create life. He alone possess such knowledge."

"Not taking hosts. That's not how it works. The Avatar spirit is reborn into each new life in human form."

He added, "And whatever your master can do back home, it doesn't matter. There are whole other worlds out there, and other powers that exist beyond that which you know."

Vader bristled at that.

"My master, the Emperor, could rule any Galaxy as easily and as wisely as he did his own," he said, drawing himself up to his full height. "No other universe will know a ruler as great as he."

"That's ridiculous. I know at least one he wouldn't rule."

"Oh?" Vader said, drawing one hand into a tight fist. "You said that I could not comprehend the powers of your own planet. I do not believe you are aware of the power of the Emperor and his mastery of the Dark Side of the Force."
