Master of the Pielements [open]

The Person: Aang, the Avatar, master of all four elements, truly an individual to be reckoned with.

The Place: The Lounge. Right now, he was in the kitchen practicing his Airbending via the highly deadly art of--

Making fruit pies. What? It took some very precise Airbending to get the fruit fluff all fluffy on top. Good practice.

And eating the fruits of his labor was, uh...exercise for his jaw, yeah. And stomach.

Okay, so he was just hankering for cake after all that time with GLaDoS. It was still good Airbending practice, though.

And he brought the rest out to be served to whoever had a hankering for confectioneries.

"Hey, do you want a piece of fruit pie?"

Come and let me bake you the pie of my people.

"I understand he is a being of great power-- almost as great as my son," Vader said, "or so he is described-- and yet he does not keep the people of his world in line as he should."

"How should he keep them in line?"

He was enjoying this just a little too much.

"By any means necessary," Vader said, darkly. "It should be clear when the time for making speeches is over and the time for bringing your enemy to their knees has begun."

"So it doesn't matter at all that his world was a world at peace before the Ohm came?"

Vader scoffed. "Such peace is always temporary. Greedy men can sense a power void the way sharks smell blood in the water. If they do not believe someone would punish them for disrupting the order of things, they will do whatever they please."

"The Avatar is eternal. That means there will always be someone there to bring order back to the world."

"He is immortal? Incapable of being killed? Then why settle for simply talking when he is an indestructible vessel of justice?"

"Not immortal. The Avatar can die. But every time he or she dies, they're reborn and master the elements once again. And there's nothing wrong with talking. Talking is a good way to solve problems. Just like fighting isn't bad when you know when to stop and let people talk."

Aang was focusing on prettying up his cakes as he talked.

"To bring balance to the world, the Avatar must be balanced him or herself. They have to know when to fight, when to stop fighting, when it's time for talking, and when it's time for listening. They have to know when it's time for peace and when it's time for action."

"Reborn? So it is a title that is passed down, a rank?" Vader frowned.

"While this deliberation takes place, people die."

"It's a spirit that passes down."

Aang said, "And people always die. That's the way of the world."

"A spirit that takes over a new host once the old one is no longer useful?" Vader asked, thoughtfully. "I have heard of Sith who knew such a power."

Vader glared down at Aang, now at a tangible point he was able to refute. "My master has the power to stop death and create life. He alone possess such knowledge."

"Not taking hosts. That's not how it works. The Avatar spirit is reborn into each new life in human form."

He added, "And whatever your master can do back home, it doesn't matter. There are whole other worlds out there, and other powers that exist beyond that which you know."

Vader bristled at that.

"My master, the Emperor, could rule any Galaxy as easily and as wisely as he did his own," he said, drawing himself up to his full height. "No other universe will know a ruler as great as he."

"That's ridiculous. I know at least one he wouldn't rule."

"Oh?" Vader said, drawing one hand into a tight fist. "You said that I could not comprehend the powers of your own planet. I do not believe you are aware of the power of the Emperor and his mastery of the Dark Side of the Force."

"True. True."

He added cheerfully, "I'd still stop him anyway if he tried to take my world, once it's returned."

A sweep of his hands had water swooping out of the sink as he cleaned a counter, air dried it off, and heeeeeey, didn't he say something about the Avatar mastering all four elements?

"You would be depriving yourself an age of enlightenment and greatness as you could never dream of, and all out of a misplaced sense of bravado...Avatar"

Vader's hand rested on his lightsaber. YOU COULD NEVER BE CERTAIN.

Aang leaned against the counter.

"Anyone that stops death and controls life doesn't understand life and death."

No denial here.

Vader tilted his head back.

"How can that be so? Master of life and death requires utmost intimacy with the systems that make both occur."

"Someone who understands them understands that they're not meant to be controlled."

"And what arbitrary law dictates that?" Vader demanded, gesturing sharply with his free hand. "There is no higher power than the Emperor, and his word is law-- if we are able to accomplish such things, who would stop us? Who dares tell me I cannot have --"

Who would dare to tell Vader that he couldn't have his wife back?

"When people die, the love they had for others doesn't disappear. It's a form of energy, just like anything else. And it doesn't leave us."

Vader laughed harshly, but it sounded more like a derisive bark.

"The Force is fueled by emotions, but they themselves are not power. I do not wish for intangible, unobtainable, lofty ideas. The only things that matter are things that are real and breathing."

"Nope."

"Then you are a stubborn fool who cannot be helped," Vader said, disdainfully, "and I will not waste my time on you."

He's projecting.
