Fire Flies and Water Flows at Sunset. [Open]
In the aftermath of a rather unusual experience in the hotel lobby that morning, Billy was not exactly enamored with the mega-hotels with amenities upon amenities crowding the shoreline of the main island. After conducting all the business he could before store closing (and making sure he had enough savings to last the few days), he chose to retire to a more remote location to think.
The cluster of quiet cabanas he'd located on one of the side islands was perfect for that purpose. True, there were no on-site spas, shopping centers, restaurants, or other facilities, but all he really needed was a simple room with access to the island breeze. The surrounding palm trees, central quiet pool, and peaceful beaches were positives as well. It was so remote here that he'd even been able to park right next to his cabana. How convenient.
Once check-in was completed, it was time to think. Helpful attendants sporting tropical shirts suggested the quiet pool located next to the fire pit, where a mysterious event was due to occur at sunset. Billy went along with them unresistingly, and sure enough he was immersed in the water as the twilight filled the sky. There were perhaps ten other people milling around in the pool, all seemingly waiting for something spectacular to happen.
And it would, given a few minutes and the right spark.
((OOC: These cabanas, as it turns out, are second only to love hotels in popularity for couples. Billy is about to find out why. Feel free to mix and mingle in this post, or use the setting in your own posts.))

Well, hardly any. She spotted Billy, and have him a wave, settling down next to him. She hoped he didn't mind her coming over to talk.

restthinking period might be sufficient to satisfy her. And he doubted there were crew members in the bushes waiting to jump on him."Everyone's back at the main hotels, right? I was going to let you all know where I'd gone after this unknown sunset event everyone here keeps talking about."
no subject
Katara had every intention of doing that...a lot had happened in only a few days, and no amount of shopping or dancing was going to make her forget that.
"Sunset event? What is it?"
no subject
When she asked about the event, he shrugged and relaxed into the water. There were chair-like ledges carved into the sides for people to sit on, and he took advantage. "No one will tell me. When I ask, the staff and regulars all exchange knowing looks and tell me to wait for it. It should happen in a minute or two---one of the few things they will tell me is that it happens when the sun disappears from the horizon. It's just barely visible now."
Any minute. The few others in the pool were now constantly bobbing up to look at the horizon, waiting for the sun to completely disappear.
no subject
Katara shrugged. "In that case, I might as well sit by you and find out what's going to happen. I have time to kill." She wondered what was the big deal about secrecy though. People in other words could sure act weird.
"How's Renne?"
no subject
Yes, a nightclub would have been Zack's perfect environment. Grinning at the memory of his friend, he listened intently to her. Out of the corner of his eye he saw excited movement, but that would be acknowledged later.
"I actually haven't seen Renne for a while," Billy frowned. "I sent a message along the Bond to tell him where I was, but I haven't been able to find him anywhere. I just hope he shows up soon."
Billy looked down at the water, only to look back up in startlement a second later when he saw a flash. It was just a spark at first, but in the same second the sun dipped below the horizon, a golden beam of light shot up from the center of the pool. It was just the beginning.
no subject
The nightclub would be her first of course, but it would give her a chance to try those strange glowing clothes that she'd bought with Nura. She also saw some movement out of the corner of her eyes, but ignored it.
"I'm sure he will," Katara said. "I've talked with hi after the tower incident. He really does care a lot about you."
Her mouth widened as the flash dominated their view. "WOW."
no subject
That he won't be seeing tonight, unfortunately. Billy is definitely not going to any nightclub.
"If he didn't we'd have problems," Billy joked. Bur it was clear that his love was nothing but sincere. Renne would make it here somehow. He had to.
"Wow!" He joined Katara in her awe at the sight. It just kept getting better and better. Seconds later, that light began to rain down on the poolgoers. How was it tangible? Billy didn't know, but he felt it brush against his skin like warmer versions of falling snowflakes. As he watched the light's continued shine, other streaks of color appeared in the pool. These weren't tangible, but they started from all ends of the pool and entered the middle, wrapping around the golden beam to create a rainbow pillar.
And those weren't the only lights. The leaved of the trees changed from their usual dark green into soft neon colors, the firepit roared to life in a burst of golden flame, and finally---fireflies appeared, dotting the entire area with little balls of golden light.
It was, in a word:
"Spectacular," Billy whispered. "Improbable, but spectacular."
no subject
She personally hoped she would see Renee too: she missed the little guy.
Her mind was blown at seeing all of the flashing lights and all of the different colors. Being so used to Stacy and being from her workd, lots of colors was a new thing for her, and she couldn't help but stare in awe. It aws all so beautiful, she wished she had a wayof preserving it all somehow.
"How are they doing this?" She asked Billy.
no subject
Watching the light show, he couldn't honestly pinpoint how it was done. And he suspected no one would be willing to divulge its secrets. Instead, he settled for trying to puzzle it out as he observed the fireflies. He felt something in his hair---were they lighting that up?
"I honestly don't know. The lights must be bent with something, but I don't see any mirrors. The trees may be electronics molded to look real, but I'd need to study it further to confirm anything." As he kicked in the water and watched one of the blue lights coil around his leg, he wondered. "Perhaps they motion sensors to track where we are and direct the lights to us?"
He was tempted to see what would happen if he were to go for a swim.
no subject
Those were all pretty interesting theories, but there was no real way that she could understand all of it. Billy had more of an idea of what caused stuff like this, and if he didn't know, maybe it was magic somehow. A different kind of magic, of course, but some just the same.
As if reading his mind, Katara offered him a hand. "Wanna go for a swim?"
no subject
And that was just what he'd been waiting to do. Looking back to the ledge to make sure his glasses were secure, Billy smiled and took her hand as he pushed off. "Let's go."
The lights seemed to jump out of the pool and skip across the surface in reply.

"Bleh!" Katara said, rising up and spitting out the water. "What the heck did they DO to this water? It tastes all funny!"

Hunting Wabbits
See, it had promised cake but it never delivered. Briefly, from that, Renne wonders if this GLaDoS thing isn't a human in disguise. Still, the thought is squashed down when he thinks of a certain couple of Humans. Three to be exact and one of those three, of course, is immortalised in plushie form.
Which is, unsurprisingly, tucked under an arm.
Mentioning said human....
Shhh. Be vewy, vewy quiet. We're hunting Billy-Wabbits.
no subject
Yes, this target is completely open.
no subject
Still, he cannot resist hunting or pouncing a particular species of Wabbit. And this wabbit? No warning. Just a gentle pounce and nudge from behind.
Eat dirt, Elmer.
no subject
He watches the movement of the trees around him, swaying somewhat like a palm tree himself when a very warm and familiar someome hops onto his back. Luckily, his grip on the ledge is firm enough to keep them upright.
Voice clearly tinged with relief, he says "All that worry just to shock me again, Renne?"
It's okay, he's just teasing.
no subject
A mock-rowr, a hair ruffle and yes, a nuzzle. Can he claim that shoulder, Billy? He's moving slowly now, to avoid any falls into giant pools of water that have this beastie a little intimidated.
"Eeee. Gad-off thin-g noh go-t ca-ke. So Rrrr-enne fin-d thin-gs, ma-ke ahn-d tehll Gad-off, 'Bi-te Rrrr-enne!'"
Chirp.
Yeah. Mean GLaDoS.
no subject
He mouths the name Renne had said, remembering that the cake related to---"GLaDOS got you?"
Yes, that's concern in his voice. If Renne had disappeared without his noticing, something worse could happen. The sneaky AI could take him away for an even longer time, and perhaps even wipe Renne from Billy's memory. That had happened with others who later returned, he thinks he remembers.
"Oh man. Are you all right? I've heard she can be cruel, but---" That's when Renne finishes. Bite me? That was hilarious, and Billy couldn't help but chuckle. "So you're the one who got her."
no subject
Purring, the oddity crawls down and curls into his favourite position on the Human's lap. If said Human doesn't mind, that is. Of course, down here, expect nuzzles and large-cat-style purring.
"Gad-off ma-ke rrrrun, ahn-d say yeu ge-t ca-ke. Bu-t noh ge-t ca-ke." A pause.
"Rrrr-enne noh le-t no-thing hurrrr-t Bee." He says this kind of thing often and means it. This is one Human Renne will fight for, even against the power of GLaDoS.
no subject
"If you find a way to stop her from taking people away, make sure you let everyone know. It's been a big problem lately. But I'm glad you made it back."
Really, really glad. That much should be obvious.
no subject
Nuzzle. And of course, a reciprocating ear-skritch provided he can reach. Squeaking, the oddity's head finds its way to the Human's chest. He's smiling by now, with a paw curled into (or the equivalent thereof) whatever it is his Bee happens to be wearing.
no subject
Just under the surface, the bright light of joy bubbles up from within him. Billy tucks his head above Renne's, smiling softly at the warm weight pressing through his tank top. His arms wrap around Renne's back, holding him securely.
"She won't get you again if I have anything to say about it."
no subject
A squeaking chirp later, the embrace is readily reciprocated. He really, really feels good right now but doesn't wish to embarass Billy. Thus, a few minutes later, the oddity slowly lets go and twists his head toward the scent of the water.
He can tell where water is. Telling between a man-made pool and a lake? That's slightly more difficult.
"Eee. Is wah-terrr. Is la-ke?"
no subject
"No, it's a pool. The people here built it and filled it with specially treated water so that they could swim safely."
