Fire Flies and Water Flows at Sunset. [Open]

In the aftermath of a rather unusual experience in the hotel lobby that morning, Billy was not exactly enamored with the mega-hotels with amenities upon amenities crowding the shoreline of the main island. After conducting all the business he could before store closing (and making sure he had enough savings to last the few days), he chose to retire to a more remote location to think.

The cluster of quiet cabanas he'd located on one of the side islands was perfect for that purpose. True, there were no on-site spas, shopping centers, restaurants, or other facilities, but all he really needed was a simple room with access to the island breeze. The surrounding palm trees, central quiet pool, and peaceful beaches were positives as well. It was so remote here that he'd even been able to park right next to his cabana. How convenient.

Once check-in was completed, it was time to think. Helpful attendants sporting tropical shirts suggested the quiet pool located next to the fire pit, where a mysterious event was due to occur at sunset. Billy went along with them unresistingly, and sure enough he was immersed in the water as the twilight filled the sky. There were perhaps ten other people milling around in the pool, all seemingly waiting for something spectacular to happen.

And it would, given a few minutes and the right spark.

((OOC: These cabanas, as it turns out, are second only to love hotels in popularity for couples. Billy is about to find out why. Feel free to mix and mingle in this post, or use the setting in your own posts.))

Katara reddened, but she smiled. "Its probably not anything another person couldn't do, but I like it. It calms me down, and I feel at one with everything arpund me. There's nothing like dancing for me...if inventing something gives you the same joy, I'm jealous!"

She personally hoped she would see Renee too: she missed the little guy.

Her mind was blown at seeing all of the flashing lights and all of the different colors. Being so used to Stacy and being from her workd, lots of colors was a new thing for her, and she couldn't help but stare in awe. It aws all so beautiful, she wished she had a wayof preserving it all somehow.

"How are they doing this?" She asked Billy.

Katara laughed to hereself. "How it makes us feel is probably the same, but the way is priobably different, right?"

Those were all pretty interesting theories, but there was no real way that she could understand all of it. Billy had more of an idea of what caused stuff like this, and if he didn't know, maybe it was magic somehow. A different kind of magic, of course, but some just the same.

As if reading his mind, Katara offered him a hand. "Wanna go for a swim?"

Katara grinned. When Billy pushed off, she leapt high in the air, gave a twist and then fell gracefully into the pool. The taste however...was something to be desired.

"Bleh!" Katara said, rising up and spitting out the water. "What the heck did they DO to this water? It tastes all funny!"

Katara made a face. "So gross," she said. "I'm so glad that stuff like this wasn't necessary in my world. Waterbender could just clean out the water."

In any case, the light show was still going on. As if to match the festivities, she started to bend the water in the air, making it rise higher and higher, spinning it into a small cyclone.

"I'm a waterbender, remember? When you bend, whether its earth, fire, air or water, you can feel when there's something off about it. I've had to clean out a fire nation river before. Not pretty."

"Well, since you asked." Katara ave him a grin and started to rotate the water cyclone, making it bigger and bigger, until it was in the center of the pool, shimmering in color. Without warning there was a very loud pop and now all of the water had exploded into bubbles.

"They did," Katara said, "But it was a fire nation village too. The military had set up a factory there that polluted all of the water in that village. I'm just...someone that is a part of my world, and this one. That's why I think we fight so hard to help the people that we care about."

Katara smiled as the bubbles flew overhead, and when the green light came near her, she just smiled. Somehow she just felt very relaxed and serene right now. Billy was good company.

Katara loved this light show, and to show her appreciation she brought another wave of water in the air and streamed it in the air for a few minutes, whipping it around her like it was some kind of a weapon. She then brought her hands down, but breathed out: the water fell in a frost all around her.

She smiled over at Billy, then mouthed prodigious?

And now she got a whiff of the cooking in the air, and her stomach grumbled. In one move, she leapt out the water, grinning over at Billy. "I'm going to grab something to eat. Want anything?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-06-14 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara laughed. "Oh, okay! I'll make sure to remember that word! Prodigious. You learn something new every day!"

She was happy that he was coming with her though. He probably wouldn't have known what to get unless they came anyway. She was glad that he seemed to like her freezing the water into ice crystals.

When she approached the fire pit, she clapped her hands gleefully. It looked like there was a lot of good food to eat! With the actual choice of what to eat though, she started with some of the vegetables she saw nearby, then headed for some of the pieces of meat and, of course, fish.

Always fish.

"I totally get that," Katara said, taking a small bite of a cherry tomato and sighing in pleasure, She really had forgotten how good real food tasted, let alone food that was roasted on a spit and ready to serve. For a moment, Katara could forget they were on Stacy and just enjoy herself and all of the things around her.

When Katara took a bite of the fish, she paused, then grabbed a cup of water and swirled it around her mouth a little. "I'm going to have to agree with you here. It does taste a little different. I could always ask, but I think they'd look at us like we were crazy. We'd totally be sounding like dumb tourists."

"I don't think anybody would make that mistake if they know you," Katara said. "I'm not surprised at all that you would head over to a library. I would, but don;t know when the next time will be that I'll get to just relax and have fun like this. I almost don't want to go to sleep!"

Katara laughed when she saw the marshmallow catch aflame, but was a little shocked when she saw Billy eat it anyway? She took her own marshmallow and lit it aflame, and when the flame died, she ate it gingerly.

"Hey, this is really good!" Katara exclaimed. "Anything else? Uh...no, I have glowing clothes, water and comfortable shoes. What else would I need?"
