Meet N' Greet

||All crew-mates. Please report to the Obs Deck to meet your new crew-mates.||

It's time for all the newbies to get a chance to have a formal meeting with the crew. Given the confusion of their arrival, that's probably a good thing.

Word gets out among the crew mates, spreading in a game of whisper down the meat-alley, that an informal crew meeting is what's happening, free from Stacy's prying ears, and sure enough, as soon as everyone's in the room, they're gestured to move in close, and a wall of blue energy goes up around them all.

"I was trying to get us back on track earlier, but nobody listened because we had to hear those guys complain some more about their trust issues." Jack rolls his eyes in typical teenager fashion.

"Stow it, Spicer. Not now." Yes Jack, he did catch your name and he's giving you a second's worth of the Serious Spartan Stare. Oh snap.

"That'll work. I don't like it, but I think we're just wasting our time arguing with these guys anyway." He doesn't really like the idea of anybody getting killed if it could be avoided, but there's no way to force this on everybody and this at least will let them move on for now.

"As for back on track, yes please." He nods decisively. "Head of engineering staff established. Next?"

The Prince of the Fire Nation looks offended. "You'd be surprised what civilized countries have done with fire." He cracks a smile. "Burning down cities is only one of them."

To the Chief, he says, "I can't help you with communication, unless you want to set up signal pyres, but I can fight and get into places Stacy doesn't want people to get into."

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"We might want to look into organizing a sort of 'welcoming committee' for new crew members," Lyta offered. "Everyone here knows how confusing and frightening waking up can be and, after what happened down in the medlab this last time, it's too easy for misunderstandings to lead to a fight."

She glanced over at Superman but, surprisingly--especially after how harshly she'd treated him earlier--there was no accusation in her expression. "Maybe if we have a team responsible for meeting the new crew members up in the Weapons Lockers, briefing them, and giving them a tour, it might make the transition a little easier."

Chris' mouth quirks a little. "It was perfectly fine, the last thing I remember before ending up..." He gestures vaguely, his face drooping a little at the implication of how long that means they must have spent in the pods.

< It is not something that I can provide to others, > Ax began. < But thought-speak does carry over a greater distance than mouth-sounds, and is not impeded by objects such as walls. Tobias and I are both capable of it, we can coordinate multiple teams from the air. >

Yes, the blue centaur-thing was talking in everybody's heads. Was that really so unusual on board this ship?

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll volunteer for that," Mr. Wednesday says a little stiffly, rubbing his head. "I wouldn't mind an early chance to meet anyone who's going to show... and a harmless old man like me shouldn't have too hard of a time calming down those who might be upset."

His gaze slides over to Superman, and then back. "...and he should probably be involved, but it may be best to keep the level of absurdity at a low for the first introductions."

[identity profile] its-keeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Will glances at Wednesday, a little bit skeptical.

"I'd like to do that too," she puts in. "I'm not as strong a fighter without my teammates, but I think I can help people adjust without panicking."

She'd like to try, anyway.

Chaucer's eyes widened; he was getting used to this voice-in-his-head thing, but it was still new. Looking around, he spotted the blue centuar-scorpion-bug-thing.

Squeaked.

Scuttled quickly away to hide behind Javert.

The Dracon Beam appeared next to the larger man's arm, aimed vaguely in the direction of what was now a blue blob-type-thing.

It was shaking a little.

Javert stared down at the quivering weapon, and back at the gigantic...blue...horse..thing. Again he was forced to admit he agreed with Chaucer, the blade upon its tail was rather intimidating. But no one learned from cowardice. He stepped aside, revealing the smaller man.

"You are being ridiculous and embarrassing."

Ax took a step back, clearly alarmed at Chaucer's response.

But no, the man couldn't be a Controller, all Yeerks on board should have starved to death by now. Perhaps the man was just startled by his unusual (to humans) appearance.

Ax raised his hands, as he had seen humans do on television to indicate that they were not dangerous.

< Please do not point that at me, > he said evenly, trying to determine how much ground he would need to cover before he could swat the Dracon beam out of the human's hand. < I mean you no harm. > He paused, thinking for a moment. < Ah, yes! I come in peace. >

"Demon!"

It was becoming his catch-all these days, but it was, in Geoffrey's opinion, a good catch-all. So he'd been disproven time and time again, what did that matter? This was clearly a demon if ever he'd seen one (which apparently he hadn't yet).

He squinted hard at the demon, then at Javert and the others.

Maybe it had them under its power already. Maybe one of them was a witch who had summoned it. Maybe they'd prove him wrong once again.

Hopefully they'd prove him wrong again.

"Chaucer. Stop. That's Ax. He's one of us. Lower the weapon."

Chief seems pretty calm, but he's quietly preparing to jump at Geoff if necessary.

Javert sighed and laid one large, heavy hand on Chaucer's shoulder.

"I highly doubt everything here is an instrument of hell, writer. Yes, we could assume they are all mad and half-demon, but if it was so we'd likely be dead already. Put the thing away; you would miss, in any case."

Actually, Dean is siding with Chaucer on this one. Giant blue horse thing with stalk-eyes and telepathy? Yeah, Dean's not too trusting of that sort of thing, usually because those sort of things like eating (and/or maiming) things like Dean.

So while this Chief guy is telling Chaucer to lower the weapon, Dean isn't quite sure that's a good idea, oldies or not. That tail is pretty sharp.

"What is that?" Dean asks with his usual politeness, staring at Ax with a bit of a 'wtf' look.

Wednesday lets out a dismissive puff of breath. The expression of emotion is so blatant he might as well have just called Geoff a blithering idiot through a megaphone.

Getting the F$%# out of Here

[identity profile] ihatefire.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Now we're discussing escape and getting to the bottom of our capture. This time, without half the crew infested by alien slugs, we might actually get somewhere," Cybil says. "Before we start throwing out ideas, I want to assign an individual to be the head of Team 'Get us the f*%& out of Here'-- This person will grab whoever they think they need to do this, and everyone needs to be willing to cooperate with them, whether it's in knocking down a wall or trying to hack Stacy's brain. This team will be our top priority."

She takes a deep breath.

"The most important thing to decide is who will lead it. I have someone in mind, but this is important, and I do want to see what everyone thinks, or if anyone has any particularly clever ideas that'd make them the most reasonable candidate."

[identity profile] ihatefire.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"You two are in charge of that, and in charge of gathering more volunteers for it as needed," Cybil says.

"Carrying on. I want advisors, but I intend to have a lot of them. I'm going to tap various people for various situations. Sawyer, for instance, you had some good security ideas, so I'd tap you, Chief, and a few others to help me put better security measures in place. If we're dealing with alien brain slugs and you know alien brain slugs, be ready to step forward. If you know battle tactics or tech, be ready to step forward."

"I want trainers for the group. The same ones that were assigned when I was infested still stand: Chief, Samus, Bri, and so on. We've already discussed this. Superman, Dr. Grey, and Spider-Man, I want you to put special focus on training the metahumans of our group. We've got a lot of youngsters here tripping over each other's powers just as much as they're helping. They're good kids, but they need to learn some discipline, and we do not know what we're up against. We need to be prepared and if it comes to a fight, we need to be able to fight without taking each other's heads off. We're going to split fighting groups down to interchangeable squads, and I'm going to have my three staff members and the trainers help me decide what squads seem a natural fit."

She looks at them all and raises her voice just a little higher. "Most importantly of all, I want a group that's a cross-section of people with different skills that is entirely dedicated to working our way out of here. You're going to be reporting to me every day."

"That being said, it's time to talk about getting the f%$& out of here. (http://community.livejournal.com/trans_9/33588.html?thread=2990132#t2990132)"

[identity profile] pie-bitches.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Dean laughs, too. "Yeah, they did. A lot of them broke, though, obviously."

Paco's explanation causes Dean's eyebrow to raise. "Yet? You mean there's a possibility that there could be cannibals? Well, that's reassuring."

A pause, and then, of course, Dean's pervy side has to make a point: "Giant sexy supervillainesses, huh?"

Re: Security and Patrolling

[identity profile] godimgood.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Chaucer starts to lower the gun, and then realizes who is talking. The seven-foot man and the gypsy are telling him to trust the giant blue monster, and the perfectly normal man is just as confused as he is.

As trusting as Geoffrey was, and as well-traveled, and as well-educated, he still cannot get over the fact that gypsies are some of the most well-known magic users of them all.

He quickly backs further away from Javert, now squinting at all three of them - Chief, Javert, and Ax - suspiciously. "Normally I would trust your word, Inspecteur, but your people are known for their tricks. You could have raised it and your gargantuan friend might be in on it."

Re: Security and Patrolling

[identity profile] asluciferfell.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Javert stares at him a moment, eyes cold and fists slowly clenching.

"Is that so. Known for our tricks. Could have raised him. Yes, let me consult the cards; let me read it, perform some little trick for you, pick your pocket. He is not my friend, m'sieur, and you would do well to keep your tongue in that empty head of yours before I remove it for you."

The Chief sighs heavily. He'd facepalm, but it's a gesture that he never picked up due to the helmet.

"Ax is... I forget what he is. He's been here longer than I have, and he's the one of the reasons why we figured out the Yeerks in time to do something about it."

Re: Security and Patrolling

[identity profile] pie-bitches.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Right, so Dean's not all that trusting of anyone, actually. But this Chaucer guy has a weapon, and really, he looks the most normal out of all of the people here, so Dean feels a bit more comfortable helping him out.

Inching closer to Chaucer, he holds out a hand cautiously.

"Hey, man. I'm with you, I'm all for not trusting the freaky-deaky monster things, but, uh. I'm pretty sure you don't wanna hurt anybody." Yeah, great job with the comforting thing, Dean-o. Dean heaves a sigh, and then, looking exasperated, waves at Chaucer.

"C'mere, dude, just for a sec."

Re: Security and Patrolling

[identity profile] godimgood.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Glancing back and forth between Dean and the others, Geoffrey decides that yes, siding with the normal one over all the abnormal shout-y ones seemed like the best idea. Even if he used odd words.

Slowly, keeping a squinty eye on the demon (and Javert, who had gone from cranky to understandably scary), he shuffled toward the other man.

"Yeah, I've got one, apparently no one's though of yet," Cale piped up (and yes he also sounded sarcastic). "Find the bridge."

He's so helpful.
