In the Dog House

Grif is in the brig.

He's not a happy guy right now, but then again he's in the brig. The cot isn't comfortable but he's lying out on it on principle, boots up on the wall because the space is a tad narrow for him. Grif still has his armor, but he's been disarmed and his omnicomm has been confiscated. His comm ring is on one of the fingers on his right hand (he finds it creepy how it adjusted over his gauntlet) and honestly he feels pretty lucky. Nobody tried to superglue it to his forehead.

So for now, Grif is about as bored as he is physically capable of being and in fairly grumpy spirits as he lies on his back, hands folded on his chest, and tries to decide what the ceiling is made out of.

Grif sits back a bit, leaning his shoulders against the wall behind him. "Well, maaaybe I am the laziest. But the second half's all lies and slander," he says before touching the first part.

He sighs. "Look. I screwed up. I know. And if I didn't already know that I've been told all about it in detail like twenty times."

"You don't have to explain to me why you guys were mad at me."

He's not upset with Katara. He really can't be, she's kind of in the right here. He's just a bit worn out from this.

Katara shrugged. "Hey, other people say that. I don't know if its true or if it isn't. I'm not here to sit and judge you. I'm just telling you where that infamous title comes from."

"Good," Katara said. "Because I'm not the one you shot. Aang is. And you WOULD be stupid if I had to explain why I'd be angry with you about it. Aang is the most special person I know. But come on Grif: if the Nightmare King could be taken out with a gun, don't you think somebody would have done that by now? He would barely have been scary."

Still, there was a reason she'd come down. "But you were also trying to stop him from hurting the crew, and if it were the Nightmare King, that meant me in particular. So...for that thought, thank you. You don't even know me, and you tried. I appreciate that, at least."

Well, he supposes that makes a whole lot of sense. He was wondering at the time why nobody else was shooting. "I was kind of tired, remember," he says.

He shrugs. "Welcome, I guess. I mean, I might be the laziest guy on this boat, but I'm not going to sit around and watch somebody slaughter all of you."

The crew tends to get on his nerves a lot, but... he doesn't really hate any of them. Even Tex. They don't get along at all but at least she's somewhat entertaining.

Katara laughed. "Buddy, I can tell you that you were far from being the only guy tired. I was working on about several different other people's nightmares with killer robots, a really bug dinosaur that made Red Snout look like a midget and a bunch of crazy people with guns."

And that was pretty creepy. But she was grateful for his intercision even if it was at the wrong time.

"But I'm sure Aang will come to see you soon. He has a lot of people that he wants to meet on the ship anyway. If there's anything I can do for you, just let me know. I have only one request though, in exchange."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Giant flaming bats?" Katara winced. "Harsh. Those robots were indestructible though, and they were really scary looking. They looked like living skeletons. REALLY strong too."

Katara sighed. "Just act like I'm really upset with you and hate you and stuff. My brother will understand Aang forgiving you, but he'll be furious with me for it. He'll think that I'm abandoning my family or something."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not all robots are bad," Katara said, grinning. "Remember Braniac 5? Every person has the capacity for great good and great evil. Aang said that, actually."

And here, the waterbender had a fleeting smile on her face. He was here. That really was the only thing that mattered.

Then she got flustered and blushed. "Er well anyway, yeah, its all right. To be honest, Aang is alive. That's all that matters."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm told that was one of his goals," Katara said. "If that's so, it is nice goal, but even if that's true, I didn't care what he was. Giving his life for the crew and the people of the ship is something that is an example for all the ship anyway, no matter what you are. It isn't easy because we fight all the time and never agree, but I think we ought to remember none of us really want to see people we don't like actually die."

Well, that was how she thought anyway.

"Uh, if i wasn't watching over Aang recovering, trust me, I'd be making sure that didn't happen."

"You never know if its a joke or not," Katara replied. "People here don't exactly have the best sense of humor."

Katara smiled. She understood, even without him saying it, what Grif thought of the crew. It reminded her a lot of the people she were friends with. A lot of them could be annoyed with the crew or flat out not like them, but they were still good people underneath.

"You should talk to Aang when you get out," she told Grif. "You might like him."

Katara laughed. "I'm sure he won't. Aang was just locked up for a really long time, and he was the only one besides the Seer that stood between the Nightmare King and us. I would have been surprised if he'd emerged all normal. But he's a forgiving person: he won't be upset with you."

She got all dreamy eyed here. "That's just the type of person he is."
