In the Dog House
Grif is in the brig.
He's not a happy guy right now, but then again he's in the brig. The cot isn't comfortable but he's lying out on it on principle, boots up on the wall because the space is a tad narrow for him. Grif still has his armor, but he's been disarmed and his omnicomm has been confiscated. His comm ring is on one of the fingers on his right hand (he finds it creepy how it adjusted over his gauntlet) and honestly he feels pretty lucky. Nobody tried to superglue it to his forehead.
So for now, Grif is about as bored as he is physically capable of being and in fairly grumpy spirits as he lies on his back, hands folded on his chest, and tries to decide what the ceiling is made out of.

He sighs. "Look. I screwed up. I know. And if I didn't already know that I've been told all about it in detail like twenty times."
"You don't have to explain to me why you guys were mad at me."
He's not upset with Katara. He really can't be, she's kind of in the right here. He's just a bit worn out from this.

"Good," Katara said. "Because I'm not the one you shot. Aang is. And you WOULD be stupid if I had to explain why I'd be angry with you about it. Aang is the most special person I know. But come on Grif: if the Nightmare King could be taken out with a gun, don't you think somebody would have done that by now? He would barely have been scary."
Still, there was a reason she'd come down. "But you were also trying to stop him from hurting the crew, and if it were the Nightmare King, that meant me in particular. So...for that thought, thank you. You don't even know me, and you tried. I appreciate that, at least."

He shrugs. "Welcome, I guess. I mean, I might be the laziest guy on this boat, but I'm not going to sit around and watch somebody slaughter all of you."
The crew tends to get on his nerves a lot, but... he doesn't really hate any of them. Even Tex. They don't get along at all but at least she's somewhat entertaining.

And that was pretty creepy. But she was grateful for his intercision even if it was at the wrong time.
"But I'm sure Aang will come to see you soon. He has a lot of people that he wants to meet on the ship anyway. If there's anything I can do for you, just let me know. I have only one request though, in exchange."

He hates tanks, as it happens. Rather a lot. Considering he got run over by one once.
"What do you want?"

Katara sighed. "Just act like I'm really upset with you and hate you and stuff. My brother will understand Aang forgiving you, but he'll be furious with me for it. He'll think that I'm abandoning my family or something."

Grif is very sure of the things that movies have taught him.
Acting like someone hates him? That's not much different from the usual state of things.
"No problem, I can do that." He nods. "And, um, thanks for like... not."

And here, the waterbender had a fleeting smile on her face. He was here. That really was the only thing that mattered.
Then she got flustered and blushed. "Er well anyway, yeah, its all right. To be honest, Aang is alive. That's all that matters."
no subject
Grif nods. He's just glad one less person is furious with him and likely to make his life miserable. "Yeah, you're right." He pauses, then adds, "And nobody tried to choke me with my comm ring. That too."
no subject
Well, that was how she thought anyway.
"Uh, if i wasn't watching over Aang recovering, trust me, I'd be making sure that didn't happen."
no subject
"Well, mostly," he ammends, after a moment's thought. He seems to be brightening a little.
Grif's kind of hesitant to admit that no matter how much the crew bugs him, he actually doesn't want to see them dead either. It's just admitting it would just be so...
So...
Okay he can't quite think of a word but it'd be so something.

Katara smiled. She understood, even without him saying it, what Grif thought of the crew. It reminded her a lot of the people she were friends with. A lot of them could be annoyed with the crew or flat out not like them, but they were still good people underneath.
"You should talk to Aang when you get out," she told Grif. "You might like him."
no subject
"Alright, if you're sure he isn't gonna take my head off or something."
Grif's not entirely convinced it's a good idea to go chat up the guy he almost killed, especially considering the terror Aang was at the time. It made quite the impression.

She got all dreamy eyed here. "That's just the type of person he is."
