In the Dog House

Grif is in the brig.

He's not a happy guy right now, but then again he's in the brig. The cot isn't comfortable but he's lying out on it on principle, boots up on the wall because the space is a tad narrow for him. Grif still has his armor, but he's been disarmed and his omnicomm has been confiscated. His comm ring is on one of the fingers on his right hand (he finds it creepy how it adjusted over his gauntlet) and honestly he feels pretty lucky. Nobody tried to superglue it to his forehead.

So for now, Grif is about as bored as he is physically capable of being and in fairly grumpy spirits as he lies on his back, hands folded on his chest, and tries to decide what the ceiling is made out of.

"Grif."

He didn't really think he would get out of explaining all of this to her, did he? She's here now. She's also giving him the look. He can pretend he doesn't see it all he want, but she will get his story eventually.

Grif will probably smell Scout coming before he sees him. He's carrying something delicious and greasy as shown by the soaked paper bag. He is also sauntering in agonizingly slow (They may be friends but Scout is still kind of a jerk. Just less so).

"Yo. Heard ya'got stuck here."

Despite Doc's almost unending cheerfulness, he had to admit what Grif had done was sheer idiocy. If had paid attention most people on the ship wouldn't want to kill him.

"Grif. What the heck were you thinking? As one of the ship medics it's my job to keep you from dying and that was something Caboose would have done."

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Grif doesn't respond. He shuts his eyes and pretends to be asleep.

Maybe if he ignores it, it will go away.

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Grif raises his head to see Doc, then lets it flump back against the uncomfortable, hard mattress.

"I was thinking that there was a Nightmare King loose and I was the only person with brains enough to be trying to kill it."

[identity profile] gogopowersuit.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
No dice. She props her arm against the wall and leans. She's not leaving anytime soon.

"The sooner you talk the sooner I leave you alone."

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
He siiiiiighs and sits up.

"What?"

[identity profile] gogopowersuit.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I want you to tell me what happened," simple, straightforward request.

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Didn't everybody tell you already?"

He can't believe she hasn't heard the whole stupid story yet.

[identity profile] gogopowersuit.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course they did, but I still need your side."

She understands that Grif was being and idiot, but he's not an idiot without cause. Usually.

[identity profile] greenissterile.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Really, Grif? Really?

"If you actually paid attention for once, and checked your omnicomm you'd know that the Aang person wasn't the Nightmare King. Even I paid enough attention to that."

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
He siiiiiighs again.

"Alright, alright. So. I was down in the city and there was this glowy guy I'd never seen before in my life blowing up buildings and flinging rocks around and crap. I didn't know who he was or what was going on with the Nightmare King or whatever. I thought it was him. So when he slowed down and I could line up a shot, I took it."

He shrugs.

"I thought I was actually doing something nice for once and trying to help save all your asses."

To judge by his tone, he's just holding back a "see if I ever try to help anyone again".

It was time to do the Aang thing.

It had been hard at first, the idea of even thinking about forgiving someone who almost killed Aang. She would never have forgiven Azula. To finally have him free and then to see Aang shot effectively destroyed any of the stupid things the Nightmare King had made her see. Her gut reaction had been to wait until everyone was gone and then let Grif have it, verbally. How DARE he almost kill Aang, why HADN'T he listened to the comms, by every right she hoped he rotted in the brig awhile, at least she hadn't (and wouldn't have, really) murdered that Yeerk, but Grif had come close to killing Aang.

But only close. Aang was alive and on the ship and with her.

So all that anger, all of those angry words? They died. Katara couldn't even feel hate right now, every part of her was overjoyed Aang was still here. When THOSE feelings dominated, she began to feel sorry for Grif: she was all too familiar with the brig, and in a way, he'd been trying to hep her. It was something Xander himself might have done, or maybe even Bella. Once she thought that, she couldn't hate Grif.

When she walked into the security brig, she was quiet but quick. She examined hi surroundings, seeing how bored and lonely he must have felt. She remembered that.

"Hey," she said. "Mind if I join you awhile?"

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Grif raises his head to look at Katara, face hidden behind the orange-gold mirrored visor.

This is a better greeting than he expected to get from her, considering he just recently almost killed her boyfriend.

"...Depends on why you want to," he replies. Wary, a little surprised, but not outright defensive.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara grinned. "Well," she said, "I was just planning to talk. It helps to pass the time when you're in here, believe me, learned from experience. Besides, I'm kinda curious as to why you shot Aang. Don't worry, I'm not here to kill you...though I'm sure Sokka and Toph nearly tried to when they caught up with you."

Yes Grif, you are very lucky Aang isn't dead. She's so happy he's alive, nothing could kill her mood. Nothing.

"But I've heard a lot about you, actually. The infamous Grif and all."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
On the plus side, there's one more visitor to make Grif's time in the brig a little less boring. On the negative side? It's Tex.

Tex's hologram flares to life as she jumps to his armor, and shakes her head as she reorients herself. "That was a lot easier than I thought it'd be." Of course, there also wasn't the issue of needing to be slingshot into a normally AI-free zone, either. She peers over at Grif from his shoulder. "So you're still in one piece."

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Gah!"

Grif jumps, succeeding in flailing off the cot and onto the floor of the cell. He scrambles and manages to get back to his feet. He glares at the spot where Tex was when he was lying there, then turns his head as he remembers she's probably still hovering by his shoulder.

"Don't do that!"

[identity profile] greenissterile.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Did you ever think that maybe you should?" Yes, even Doc's patience can be tested.

"You can't just pretend you didn't shoot an innocent person, Grif."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ow!" Tex grumbles as Grif gets back to his feet. "Don't flail like that. I can feel it when you fall. And what was I supposed to do, knock?"

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Usually if something matters enough people will tell me to my face. Or yell about it enough that I'll notice."

It worked for the whole zombie fiasco, didn't it?

"Anyway, he wasn't an "innocent person". I don't care how nice a guy he is, he was still destroying stuff like some kind of wannabe Godzilla down there. What was I supposed to think, huh?"

[identity profile] hero-sting.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris knew he probably shouldn't even do this but he was a little annoyed what Grif did even though he barely knew the guy. (He did talk with Tex a few times though) Rather than speaking of the obvious comment on Grif's intelligence, Chris decided on another topic.

"Hey Grif. Is there anything I can get you while you're stuck in there."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara giggled. "Yeah. The kid with the boomerang is my brother, and Toph is a good friend of mine. I'm sorry they attacked you, but we all had been trying to free Aang for a long time. We thought, because of you, that we may had lost him forever. It was...really scary, for all of us. Aang is more than just some bald monk. He's...one of our best friends."

To understate it, of course.

"Kinda," Katara said. "You're usually called one of the laziest people on the ship. Also, you;re supposed to be stupid or something."

[identity profile] the-team-sucks.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes!" he says, exasperated. Grif sits back down on the cot grumpily, scowling at her invisibly through his faceplate.

He's a little too agitated to comment on how weird it is that she could feel him falling off the cot.
