The Battle That Ended The Century

People say that war is hell. This looked it.

Buildings and cars and bodies are scattered like broken toys as far as the eye can see, stretching out toward a dirty horizon. Even the clouds seems streaked with mud and blood, and they're taking it out on everyone below with a constant stream of cold, soaking rain.

The sounds of fighting seem to come from all directions, but at this moment, there's no one else in sight.

A breather. The calm before the storm.

"I'll ensure it," he promises, leaping out from his spot and drilling a few more holes. It's grim work and he wants to vomit, but better they do this now than die later. The visuals are only made more gruesome by the way the rain paints red trails across the world.

"Let's go. Soldiers are coming." A series of gunshots strikes nearby then, as if on cue. Billy dives after the first few shots, reaching out to make sure Jamie is out of harm's way. Once sure of that, he peeks up---quickly dodging more bullets. But that was long enough for him to see that no crew members were in the vicinity. He thinks. Perhaps a distraction...?

The decision's made. He reaches to a bag he'd picked up and pulls the pin on a grenade, lobbing it at a wall above the soldiers. More rubble falls, effectively trapping them for now. That taken care of, he looks to Jamie. "You okay?"

Instinct tells him to dive flat when the gunshots go off, to make as small of a target as possible, and he's able to do that - although it's not without pain.

He nods when Billy returns, not trusting himself to speak for a moment, then clears his throat. "Aye," he says briefly, then adds, "You're right, though. We need to get out of here if we can."

Maneuvering himself into a better position, he looks around to see if there's a better way to go. "Maybe if we try over here?"
