Meet and Greet Part Deux: The Socialing

The new people will find themselves ushered out of Obs Deck, so it can be shot down to the planet again, to pick the crew up. Eventually, the crew members on the mission are brought back up, and the doors open to let the two groups meet.

The newbies are likely not expecting their new crew-mates to come back bearing presents--which some of them are.

[ooc: This time anyone can post in. REMEMBER TO TAG OTHER PEOPLE, THO. This is set after the mission so mission peoples can meet the newbies. Latecomer newbies, if you want, you can just tag your guys into this one to make things easier.]

Well, Mai was definitely the last person she expected to see. Then again, they were both on The Outsiders, so they were a team, right? One always looked out for their teammates, and it wasn't as if the two of them hated each other, right?

Although she didn't think it would be right to start talking about how she missed home. Mai had lost hers too, and hadn't even had the chance to be off the ship yet. What right would Katara have to complain to the older girl.

"I'm good," Katara lied. "Just have a few things on my mind."

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Describing whatever Mai felt for Katara as 'hatred' was too strong. It wasn't even her default of 'apathy'. It was more of a neutral acceptance with friendly overtones. She shrugged - Mai wasn't one to press over something she considered this trivial, "If you say so."

Which didn't mean her tone of voice wouldn't carry her disbelief.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara wanted to ask a question, and was at least sure that Mai would give her an honest answer.

"Mai?" She asked,, looking awkward. "If you had the chance to strengthen your skills, to be better at knife throwing, would you take it, even if people thought your trainer was a strange person?"

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"I train myself," she responded, almost automatically. She paused and gave it another moment or two of thought, then shrugged, "I guess so. I don't really care what anyone else thinks."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I see," Katara said. It looked like there was no way out on this one. If she was going to train as a Bene Gesserit, she would have to do it without any one's real support. It was sad that Sokka didn't offer her support, but she'd simply have to deal.

"Thanks," she said. "I'm kinda having a fight with Sokka right now. I'm training with Sheeana, the Bene Gesserit and he seems to think she's dangerous."

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"The who?" Mai raised an eyebrow. She didn't care enough to pay much attention to everyone on board. Still, it didn't really matter to her that much anyway.

"He's your brother..."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a sisterhood of a kind, trained fighters: the most trained I've ever seen, actually. They have ways of controlling their bodies that make me jealous, and that's not an easy thing to say. Their goal is to try and help the universe mature and become strong themselves. Sokka thinks I'm rushing into it, that I'm just making bad decisions."

She sighed. "But I'm not. I mean, I read up on them, I train with Sheeana a lot: its a lot like training with a bending master, to be honest. I have a friend named Tess who's learning this just like me. I found out on the last mission that I've actually gotten faster, that my body reacts before it even clicks in my mind! I just... feel that if I'm here on this ship, I could improve my own fighting skills."

She paused. "Not that I want to overload you with all of that. I mean, I know it might not seem that important to you."

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're right, it doesn't," Mai replied, "But they sound like your Kiyoshi friends. Vaguely."

Which they did, but then again, the Kiyoshi warriors hadn't been that hard to take out. At least not in Mai's experience.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, she guessed that answer was to be expected. That wasn't all too surprising. "It's not the fighting that Sokka is worried about. See, there's also this drug called Spice that Bene Gesserit's take as a rite of passage. Sheeana said we didn't have to, but its too weird for Sokka. I dunno, him and I, we aren't really agreeing with each other lately. It really...sucks."

Was that how you used that word? She wasn't sure. These slang words were a little confusing.

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Mai shrugged, her usual blank look set on her face, "He's your brother. You're going to have to figure it out."

She narrowed her eyes and then shrugged again, "...I don't like the sound of the drugs, but... eh... it's your body. Not like I care that much."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I know," Katara said. "I doesn't make it any easier though. I'd just like to be on good terms with him again. I miss him."

Although that last part was annoying. "Why does everyone thing I'm going to take drugs? I probably will never touch Spice...its too precious for Sheeana anyway."

Besides, the strength to fight and intuition had to happen because of you, not a drug, right?

"Mai, can I ask you a question? What do you do when you and Zuko fight?"

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Mai shrugged, "We don't fight that often."

The last time they'd seriously had a fight was when he'd dumped her to go save the world. And that had just involved her yelling at him while he apologized profusely.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Katara said. Well darn, that made things difficult. She wanted to have an idea of what a real relationship was like. When they freed Aang, she wanted to make sure she got it right.

"How come you guys get along so well? What's your secret?"

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Mai wasn't quite sure about that herself. They just clicked. They had their moments, occasionally, but for the most part they just seemed to mesh really well. She shrugged at Katara, "I don't know. We just get along."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara smiled. "Mm. Maybe you guys were just meant for each other then. If that's the reason...maybe I might not have too much to worry about. It might make things a little easier, when we free Aang."

Somehow, and she didn't know why, she wanted to get advice from the older Fire Nation girl.

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Mai blinked. Since when had Katara and Aang been together? Oh well. She wasn't about to question it. More power to them, she supposed.

"I guess not," she replied, "...good luck."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiled. "You know, if you guys ever have any problems, or anything we can help you with, just ask, okay? We're the only ones left from our worlds: we shouldn't become strangers."

Katara nodded. "I have lots of training to catch up with, so I'll need all the luck I can get." She paused. "But thanks Mai, for your advice. You didn;t say a lot, but it still helped."

[identity profile] grayaura.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. I know," Mai replied, glancing away to look over the crowd, "We both know."

Mai blinked at that last part - she hadn't said anything particularly helpful, had she?

"You're... welcome?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara nodded. Mai wasn't one for a lot of words, but she learned by now that what words she did say she meant.

Katara laughed at Mai's expression. "Sometimes listening helps as much as advice."
