Podpop-ery

[ooc: Newbie Helpers List | Instructions: Post your character with one post establishing them as being podpopped. Tag each other in groups of 2's, 3's, and 4's, to get some interaction to start with. If a thread doesn't already have 2 or 3 people tagged in, tag it with your character's podpop popping near the other people, rather than making a new subthread. If you would like to play out them talking to the AI, please send an email to the mods making the request--we do this only by request. Then move onto the big Newbie Meeting. Once your character has gotten the rundown from the old crew, you may start posting entrance posts and freely tagging.]

||Pod Release Protocols Initating|| Stacy's familiar voice sounds out to all the podmates through the ship.

In the Pod Caverns, there are the sounds of: Pop. Pop pop pop. Poppuhpoppoppop. KASCHUNKhiiiiiiiissssss.

There is condensation and mist spraying out from cracks in the pods, as the people inside slide out onto the floors, covered in slime.

--

There was nothing. You were going about your normal life, then there was a bright light, and then? Nothing.

Then the world lurches.

The chamber here is humid.

Actually, "chamber" isn't quite accurate. You're in a cavern, half-lit by an eerie greenish light, going on and on as far as the eye can see. The light is coming from what can only be described as pods, glistening, round greenish-yellow things, glowing with a pale inner light, outlining human -- and not quite human -- forms. Each is rooted to the floor, to the walls, with something black, twisted, and unidentifiable.

They line the walls of the cavern, go up in maddeningly high columns, curling and corkscrewing up into the darkness, until the light from them is like that of the stars, glowing pale and mournful in clusters in the darkness above. Twisted walkways and stairs crisscross, traverse the platforms in front of the pods, wending their way back and forth, up and down through the chamber.

You just came from one of those pods, broke free like a butterfly from a (slimy, nasty) chrysalis.

Now you stand alone but not quite alone, naked, not knowing how you got there, who took you, or why you were taken.

As your body heats up again, you realize the air is warm -- just a few degrees too warm to be comfortable -- and muggy; it smells acrid and organic, like freshly spilt blood and sweat. Your mouth tastes of salt.

The floors are pulsing under your feet, throbbing...

Wherever you are, this entire place...is alive.

Oh, and also you're naked and covered in alien snot.

When you call out, ask where you are, a voice speaks to you, in your head. She tells you:

||You are here.||

When you ask who she is, she tells you that her name is STA'C K'LTRRB'TXFT, but that you may call her Stacy. When she tells you who she is, there is a gush of emotion, love, maternal warmth. You are on a ship. She is that ship. Her name is Stacy and she loves you. Her voice is warm and motherly, even if these messages sound almost automated.

Glowing phosphorescenet lights appear in pustules along the floor. They lead you up a massive spiraling walkway that gives you a view of what are possibly millions in stasis. At the top is a room with moving vines that clean you and clothe you in a plant-like body-suit--soft, but durable. After that, the lights lead you to a great cavernous room with a clear floor that lets you see all the holes and tunnels in the walls of it. When you reach the center, the last thing she tells you before whisking you away to gather your belongings and meet the rest of the crew is this reassuring thought:

||You have been Chosen to accomplish a Great Purpose. You have been Chosen to help fight the Ohm, a race of insectoid beings that are the destroyers of worlds.||

||You have been Chosen as champions of life, as protectors of the worlds and peoples that are left. The others are waiting for you. They will explain everything.||

She will tell you nothing more. Your answers lie with these "others" she speaks of.

A very small pod lurched open like a chrysalis as a tiny form squelched from it, dropping to the floor with a loud thump for it's size. Wet, covered in large balls of sticky goo, a little tiny form the size of barely ten inches coughed up and spat out a large yak of that stuff.

"Eeeeew desu~!" exclaimed the tiny little blue haired woman, looking up at the pods with a startled gaze. "Anyone? Anyone here? Hello? I'm all alone and cold desu~!"

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Lone thought dying would be less sticky. Mind you, it could be the radiation sickness, but she didn't think she'd feel so...healthy.

And she certainly didn't think that she'd hear anyone else.

"You're not alone," Lone calls out, while wiping some of the goo from her eyes.

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Rein floated into the air, looking for the source of the voice and floated over. "Oh, you're here too? Where is here? What am I doing here? I need Hayate-chan... desu~!"

Rein was on the verge of panic and the little device was making a little pouty face.

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Lone just sort of stares at the floating going on. "Did you get the voice in your head explaining stuff too, or was that just me?"

And she can't help it.

"You do know you're floating, right?"

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Rein nodded. "I got it but I didn't think I could be chosen to save the universe desu."

She then blinked and looked down. "Of course, it's faster than walking everywhere! Otherwise how can I participate in combat if I wasn't desu?"

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Least I'm not crazy," Lone muttered, glad she wasn't the only one hearing voices. "But I guess there could be a mix-up. Computers can be funny, you know?"

"Couldn't you just, run, or something? Most people don't float. Unless they're a robot."

It's then that Lone realises that she is missing a few things. Namely clothes. Her hands automatically moves to covering position. "Hm. Where do you think we get clothes?"

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Computers do, but I don't think that's it, desu..." murmured Rein with a little sigh.

And she shook her head. "No I can't. Look." Landing, she ran a meter -- and it took a minute to cross it. "See? Too slow desu."

"Um, not too sure," said Rein, completely at ease with her nudity since she was a device after all. "I wish I could unison with you, and maybe then that'd give you clothing but right now I'm not too sure where..."

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Lone just looks confused now. At least the floating is stopped, which is one thing.

"Why do you keep saying 'desu'? And what do you mean,'unison'?"

It doesn't sound good, whatever it is, and there's caution in her tone.

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm? Desu?" Rein thought about it for a moment and rubbed her head. "I really don't know, desu! It's just what they call a verbal tick!"

"And unison is what I do," said Rein, holding a hand to her chest. "I'm a Unison Device desu. It means I merge with someone for a temporary point in time and fight as one, boosting power and giving them more flexibility and organization with their magical powers. Although I don't see Hayate-chan anywhere or Signum or Vita or Shamal so..."

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's an explanation, although Lone doesn't feel any the wiser for knowing. "Whatever makes you happy, I guess," she notes politely.

The whole explanation of unison though doesn't help. "Did you say magical powers? You been reading too much Grognak?"

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Rein rubbed her head as she floated into the air. "I don't know too much about Grognak... what is it?"

"And yes, magical powers. Watch!" Rein turned and aimed at the air. Magic pooled and she snapped her fingers, icicle blades forming out of the air. "See? This is my ice magic desu. I use it in many ways but I need my book... MY BOOK DESU! I NEED MY BOOK DESU!!!!!"

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Grognak? Only the best comic book round the Wasteland, that's what!" Lone is quite enthusiastic , but this enthusiasm teeters off into open mouthed staring again as Rein produced ice blades.

"Wha...?"

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Calming down from her short flail, Rein dismissed the ice blades. "I use ice magic but I need my book to cast other spells. Hayate is my partner and I often help her cast bigger spells since, um, well..." Rein blushed. "She can't multitask very well desu."

It was also another phrase for "Hayate can't hit the broad side of a barn."

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Lone is still finding it a bit tricky to get over the fact that magic exists outside of her comic books.

"Can anyone learn to do that?" she asked, as she mimicked the finger snapped gestures. "Would come in handy."

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not everyone," said Rein sadly. "You could always use a Device to funnel excess magic in the air for attacks like the ground troops do, but for those really big spells you need a lot of magical power in your body. I have no way to tell currently who has the spark or not, not without my book."

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Most of what Rein has just said has washed over Lone's head, but she smiles and nods like she understood it. Now's not the time to ask what a Device is, or why there is magic in the air, and what ground troops, or sparks. Lone could go on all day.

"You think that maybe your book is around this place, somewhere?"

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hopefully," said Rein with a nod. "It would be really nice to have my book with me."

[identity profile] wanderer-alone.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Lone smiled. "If there's one thing I'm good at, it's finding things. Want me to give you a hand at all? I dunno about you, but I'm curious to see more of this place."

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure desu~!" exclaimed Rein happily, thankful she found another friend.
