Hail the Conquering Heroes

Things can happen without Stacy knowing, that much is apparent now. The damage to her sensors is significant. But the fighting clued her in.

After it's all over, after those captured have been rescued, after the injured have been tended to, only the nest is left, and Stacy takes care of it.

||Infestation of Cluster 42, Level 4, Sector 7, Sublevel 12, Zone 37 has been detected. Triggering internal defenses. Decontamination commencing.||

There is a pause.

||Decontamination complete.||

Simple as that, once she knows the problem was there. Her internal sensors are damaged, especially in the city, and so are some of the systems monitoring them. You have to know what's broken to know to fix it.

Such a simple thing and it only took one man dying to make it happen. (His body is gone, by the way, ripped to shreds and eaten. There's not even a spot of blood on the floor. That's the bugs' doing. The bugs' bodies are gone too--that's Stacy's doing).

||Any injured personnel that still have not received medical attention, report to the nearest lift, and you will be transported to the MedBay. Any uninjured personnel, report to the Living Area, to the restroom facilities to undergo decontamination of xenobiological material. Then report to the Obs Deck to meet your new crew-mates.||

Said crew-mates--and the Doctor, who'd skipped out and miraculously ducked and weaved his way to the lift when he'd realized the Master was there--are there and waiting, and just a tad confused.

"You designed this?" Allen looks up long enough to give Brainy an approving glance. "Rock on. Is it strictly a scanning device or does it have encyclopedic - oh, there we go. Sweet, alien physics."

He scrolls through a couple of screens worth of material before speaking again. "Damn. I used to have wet dreams about getting my hands on this kinda shit. Hey, you're not violating any space-time laws by letting puny humans view your science, are you? I wouldn't want you to get in trouble."

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2008-12-08 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"The chances of your being from my past are unlikely. You would likely recognize me, at least peripherally, as the Legion operated briefly in the past when we were trapped there. Ergo, there's little risk of damaging the timeline--since you're likely from an alternate one."

He adds, "Also, your interest in technology is...refreshing."

[identity profile] mynameisax.livejournal.com 2008-12-08 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Did someone say interest in technology? Because there's an Andalite on board who has been starved for technology up to his standards for the better part of two Earth years.

There was a part of Ax's mind that was making noises about Seerow's Kindness, but the green, human-shaped person was decidedly not an Andalite and thus wasn't bound by that law, so Ax ignored it and attempted to get a peek at the omnicom as well.

Then he nearly squealed.

"Wait! Wait! Go back! Scroll back!"

"Your interesting technology is refreshing. But who said I didn't recognize you?" Allen beams at Brainy like the king of all smart-asses.

Only then does he scroll back, proffering the screen to Ax. "Right here?"

More smart people! This IS the best abduction ever!

"Where do you recognize me from?" It's crucial to know.

"Yes, thank you," Ax said distractly, too absorbed in what he was reading to even play with the sounds.

This...this was beyond even Andalite science. It was hard to admit, but there was simply no way of getting around it. But after the Chee, and after seeing Marco's father help invent Z-Space communication a mere four decades after the first human orbital space-flight, it was a little easier to admit that perhaps Andalite science wasn't the most advanced in existence.

Not to mention it was awesome.

"How far in the future did you say you were from?" Ax asked, looking at green humanoid.

"Who said I did?" Allen asks, still beaming. He likes riddles almost as much as he likes math!

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2008-12-08 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"The 31st century," he answers to Ax. "Although technology like this has existed on Colu since the 20th century and long before."

To Allen, he says, "Answer my question. I need to ensure I'm not damaging the timeline."

[identity profile] mynameisax.livejournal.com 2008-12-08 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I do not recognize you," Ax assured the green humanoid before resuming his study of the technology. "Any aliens on Earth in my universe keep their existence secret."

Thus far at any rate.

Ax pushed that thought aside and continued reading as fast as he could, in case the green humanoid took his information back anyway.

"Kruh, kret. Secret."

"That a verbal tic?" Allen glances at the kid, in between scrolling for the both of them. "Don't worry about it," he advises Brainy. "Nobody's timeline's being damaged, unless you count by planned-or-unplanned interaction across dimensions. You'd know who I am, if you were from my timeline. I'm kind of a big deal, for a primitive 21st century Earth-monkey."

He's got your number, Brainy, and he's not giving it up! Insert evil genius laughter here.

His evil grin fades somewhat at the length of time Brainy's presented in relation to the device in his hands. "That long, huh?" he adds, still scrolling as if on automatic for Ax's benefit. "What kind of innovations have the later versions got?"

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Technology has been stagnant on Colu for that thousand years. There was an...incident that made Coluans favor theoretical over applied sciences."

[identity profile] mynameisax.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ax opened his mouth to repeat his explanation for his extraneous mouth-sounds, then paused, blinked, and grinned.

"That explanation is acceptable," he answered Allen. "Buh. Bull."

He frowned at Brainy in confusion. "Theoretical over applied sciences for a thousand years? That seems counter-productive."

[identity profile] twelvevoltman.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Guess when you get to a certain level, everything else seems superfluous, huh? Considering you already have a cure for AIDS, economically sound ends to universal hunger, and, oh, look, houses that grow on trees, isn't that nice." He scrolls through a few more info "Wow. I feel an unexpected yet comforting sense of security in the future." He grins at Brainy "Looks like this was the right time to knock my wife up after all."

"Still, all theory and no application's got to be boring as hell. What do you do for fun?"

Since he's obviously not having any sex.
