Hail the Conquering Heroes

Things can happen without Stacy knowing, that much is apparent now. The damage to her sensors is significant. But the fighting clued her in.

After it's all over, after those captured have been rescued, after the injured have been tended to, only the nest is left, and Stacy takes care of it.

||Infestation of Cluster 42, Level 4, Sector 7, Sublevel 12, Zone 37 has been detected. Triggering internal defenses. Decontamination commencing.||

There is a pause.

||Decontamination complete.||

Simple as that, once she knows the problem was there. Her internal sensors are damaged, especially in the city, and so are some of the systems monitoring them. You have to know what's broken to know to fix it.

Such a simple thing and it only took one man dying to make it happen. (His body is gone, by the way, ripped to shreds and eaten. There's not even a spot of blood on the floor. That's the bugs' doing. The bugs' bodies are gone too--that's Stacy's doing).

||Any injured personnel that still have not received medical attention, report to the nearest lift, and you will be transported to the MedBay. Any uninjured personnel, report to the Living Area, to the restroom facilities to undergo decontamination of xenobiological material. Then report to the Obs Deck to meet your new crew-mates.||

Said crew-mates--and the Doctor, who'd skipped out and miraculously ducked and weaved his way to the lift when he'd realized the Master was there--are there and waiting, and just a tad confused.

"Are alien threats that common? Are they having difficulty with integration?"

Gwen nodded. "More common on my planet than you'd think. You see, there is this rift that runs through our city, and aliens and technology slip through." She thought about going into more detail, but it didn't seem like the time. After all, she suspected this wasn't Rift related. The Rift was random, this seemed more calculated. "For the bigger, more menacing threats..." she thought about the Doctor, and how helpful someone like him would be, especially now. "Well, let's say we have an alien that helps us out with that kind of thing, too."

"It's always an annoyance when individuals don't follow the immigration process, regardless of whether they're from another dimension or another planet."

He thinks she's talking about interdimensional illegals.

Gwen gaped for a moment. "There's a processes?" She shook her head, suspecting he didn't quite understand what she was getting at. "In our case, a lot of them accidentally slip through. My planet's not exactly, well, very aware of alien presence."

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course there's a process. Millions of people immigrate to other worlds each year."

[identity profile] alien-catcher.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Well," she shrugged. "Not where I come from."

She let her eyes roam across the room at the milling bodies. "So what now, then? Do we just wait about for whatever we're told to do next?"

"That seems hardly productive," he says. "We need to explore. Carefully, mind you, but there has to be a way to turn this ship around. There seem to be enough beings here for a show of force against our captors and if I can find some way to access this ship's systems, I can likely master them quickly enough."

Gwen felt her heart jump a little. She wasn't the type to be idle, and the idea of exploring filled her with some excitement, and a little fear, which she pushed away. If anything, maybe this alien could help her find some answers.

"That sounds like an excellent plan of action," she mused. "But, how do you think our 'hosts' will react to us meddling with their ship?" She had a feeling Brainiac here didn't know much more to expect than she did.
