Hail the Conquering Heroes

Things can happen without Stacy knowing, that much is apparent now. The damage to her sensors is significant. But the fighting clued her in.

After it's all over, after those captured have been rescued, after the injured have been tended to, only the nest is left, and Stacy takes care of it.

||Infestation of Cluster 42, Level 4, Sector 7, Sublevel 12, Zone 37 has been detected. Triggering internal defenses. Decontamination commencing.||

There is a pause.

||Decontamination complete.||

Simple as that, once she knows the problem was there. Her internal sensors are damaged, especially in the city, and so are some of the systems monitoring them. You have to know what's broken to know to fix it.

Such a simple thing and it only took one man dying to make it happen. (His body is gone, by the way, ripped to shreds and eaten. There's not even a spot of blood on the floor. That's the bugs' doing. The bugs' bodies are gone too--that's Stacy's doing).

||Any injured personnel that still have not received medical attention, report to the nearest lift, and you will be transported to the MedBay. Any uninjured personnel, report to the Living Area, to the restroom facilities to undergo decontamination of xenobiological material. Then report to the Obs Deck to meet your new crew-mates.||

Said crew-mates--and the Doctor, who'd skipped out and miraculously ducked and weaved his way to the lift when he'd realized the Master was there--are there and waiting, and just a tad confused.

Gruff or not, Sparhawk didn't mind. Nothing wrong with a bit of gruffness now and again. Helps to deter the inane.

"Do you have any more idea of what's going on that I do?" he asked. "Seeing as the voice is less than helpful."

Best to get all the tricky questions out of the way first, then pay their respects to courtesy and etiquette. Whatever the etiquette might be on..well, on whatever this is.

Zuko glances at his talking companion. Yeah, new.

"We're on a giant airship. The kind that flies through the stars. And we can't go home until we've won some war . . . according to the ship, which can talk."

Zuko sighs, reminded once again of why he hates it here so much.

Well, what can be said to answer that? Its a shock to the system at least, so Sparhawk focuses on the one part that makes sense.

"A war. Against whom?"

He had thought that he could settle down, and have a relatively quiet life. Obviously, the universe had other ideas.

"And would you know where I could find a sword?"

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2008-12-04 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Zuko shrugs. "Stacy won't tell us."

"There's a room full of our stuff. I found my swords there." he gestures towards the single sheath strapped to his back. "You might find yours."

Great. Another war where you don't know who any of the opponents are. Sparhawk takes a quick look around to see if he can see any familiar bulky bodies, but there's nothing.

"At least that's something this...Stacey, hasn't taken away from us," and he casts a proficient eye over the swords as Zuko indicates them.

"Which Order are you from?"

Poor Sparhawk, still trying to cast things in his own reference.

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2008-12-04 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh -"

Poor Zuko, still trying to cast himself in any reference.

"No order. I'm a rebel."

He leans against the wall, trying to look cool and rebellious.

[identity profile] bluerose-knight.livejournal.com 2008-12-04 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
They can be both referenceless together. Although generally Sparhawk disapproves of rebels, since they're usually rebelling against his wife or friends.

"Rebelling against who, neighbour?" and Sparhawks voice is just that little bit quieter and colder. Its just the way he is.

"Against my father, since I don't agree with his plans to burn the entire Earth Kingdom to the ground." Zuko counters Sparhawk's coldness with some of his own. Two can play the convicted warrior game!

He sighs discontentedly and crosses his arms a little tighter. "Not that it matters while I'm stuck here."

[identity profile] bluerose-knight.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, burning kingdoms to the ground is something that Sparhawk disapproves of on general principles (just don't mention Zemoch, they had it coming).

"Do you think, neighbour, that after we've finished our war out here, this Stacey might be persuaded to let us give you a hand?"

Bad Sparhawk, stop trying to find other causes to champion.

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"It will probably depend on whether or not there's an Earth Kingdom left to save by the time Stacy lets us go."

Zuko glares discontentedly at the ground some more and grinds his teeth once or twice. "Thanks for the offer, though. We could use the help."

[identity profile] bluerose-knight.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, that would be rather a problem, yes.

"I see," is Sparhawks grave response. He hadn't realised that destruction was so imminent. At least for him, things were calm. Not much can go wrong with being on a boat.

"Has anyone tried to persuade this Stacey to let us go?"

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course I have," Zuko snaps, more angrily than the question really warrants. "She's not exactly understanding about anything 'less important' than her precious 'mission.'"

[identity profile] bluerose-knight.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Sparhawk doesn't mind being snapped at, he can understand Zuko's frustration. If he was in the same situation, he'd be doing the same thing.

"I'd say lets hope that this war is over soon, but I doubt that's what you want to hear," the broken-nosed man responds. "Were there any other rebels that may be carrying on your work?"
