Hail the Conquering Heroes

Things can happen without Stacy knowing, that much is apparent now. The damage to her sensors is significant. But the fighting clued her in.

After it's all over, after those captured have been rescued, after the injured have been tended to, only the nest is left, and Stacy takes care of it.

||Infestation of Cluster 42, Level 4, Sector 7, Sublevel 12, Zone 37 has been detected. Triggering internal defenses. Decontamination commencing.||

There is a pause.

||Decontamination complete.||

Simple as that, once she knows the problem was there. Her internal sensors are damaged, especially in the city, and so are some of the systems monitoring them. You have to know what's broken to know to fix it.

Such a simple thing and it only took one man dying to make it happen. (His body is gone, by the way, ripped to shreds and eaten. There's not even a spot of blood on the floor. That's the bugs' doing. The bugs' bodies are gone too--that's Stacy's doing).

||Any injured personnel that still have not received medical attention, report to the nearest lift, and you will be transported to the MedBay. Any uninjured personnel, report to the Living Area, to the restroom facilities to undergo decontamination of xenobiological material. Then report to the Obs Deck to meet your new crew-mates.||

Said crew-mates--and the Doctor, who'd skipped out and miraculously ducked and weaved his way to the lift when he'd realized the Master was there--are there and waiting, and just a tad confused.

Kate glanced over, and eyed her. "She looks a little like a kid version of Ms. Marvel from my world."

She did glance back at Paco with a grateful smile at the hug.

"Yeah? Is Ms. Marvel an alien too?" Paco asked curiously. Hey, how often did a guy like him get to learn about super heroes from other dimensions?

Hah. Girlfriend smile. One point for Paco!

She shook her head, "From what I've heard, she just got exposed to alien tech. Kree. She can fly, has super strength, and can shoot beams of energy. She was with the Avengers who helped us out once, but later backed Stark's side for the Registration Act."

"One of the finger-quote 'heroes'. Got it." Paco said. "Sounds like she's got similar powers to Superman and Supergirl, but I think they'd both be against that Registration crap. Superman is more like your Captain America, all symbolic and stuff." He settled back on the fleshy-couch a little bit, making himself more comfortable. "And he's apparently ridiculously nice, Jaime would not shut up forever after he got to meet him."

"Really? Cap was a good man, stern at times, and stubborn."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I've never met the guy, personally," Paco said with a shrug. "Just seen him on TV and gotten second- and third-hand accounts. He's just one of those guys that you look for when the world's going hell to punch something and save the day."

"Just move in different circles? He's not one for teams?"

Re: Kate

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm Jaime's sidekick full-time," Paco said. "I stick to El Paso. Superman's usually way the hell over in Metropolis or on the moon or something."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Kate looked at him, "Never thought of branching out into teams? Get more travel that way."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Me? No, no, I'm not a super hero. I'm a sidekick," Paco explained. "Jaime needs someone watching El Paso when he gets hauled off into space, or the inside of a volcano, or Antarctica, or someplace really weird, like Kansas. That's my job."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"So? Heroes do that too. You never saw yourself as one?"

Re: Kate

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
"The 'sidekick' thing just fits better," Paco said with a shrug. "If I wanted to be Stick-Man and run around with a mask and tights on, no one would stop me." Take embarrassing pictures of him yes, because Brenda and Jaime were his friends and he'd think they were pod people if they didn't tease him for putting on tights.

Re: Kate

Kate smiled, and placed a hand on his shoulder, "Doesn't have to be Stick-Man, and you should see my costume. No tights. And I used sunglasses instead of a mask. Just an idea."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
"What's your costume look like?" Paco asked.

Specifically did it have a skirt? Paco approved of skirts on super heroines, practical or not.

Re: Kate

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"White scarf, the suit was purple and sleeveless on my right and sleeved on left. Had a skirt over leggings and boots and gloves."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-12-04 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Paco considered this for a moment.

"Sounds cool." He grinned. "Also, hot.

Re: Kate

"It worked for me. Had some connections in the fashion industry to help design it."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Nice. Here's hope Stacy lets us have real clothes again," Paco said, plucking at his podsuit. "Clothes don't need a pulse."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-12-11 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Seriously. I don't think I can ever get used to this thing."

Re: Kate

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-12-11 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
"It's weird and creepy and it doesn't even have anything funny written on it." Paco paused. "In English. It might say "I'm with stupid" in creepy plant language."

You never know!

"Maybe? I doubt it with the pulsing though." Plus some places really, REALLY shouldn't have anything pulsing there.
