Karaoke Night [OPEN]

Between nearly killing himself trying to help people and his talk with Nathan, Peter was exhausted. Even with his upbeat demeanor, it was hard to not say he felt stressed. His flight-breaks no longer helping, he decided he needed to take a few hours. He found himself at the sensoriums, a place he had heard talked about like the holodeck from Star Trek. As he walked in, it was a blank room. He closed his eyes and thought to himself.

I just need a way to relax.

He suddenly heard music, and opened his eyes to what appeared to be a high class nightclub, but filled with the strangest creatures he had ever seen, even since arriving on the ship. Behind the bar, a green-skinned redhead with horns, more conspicuous for his paisley shirt and purple ascot, was trying to get his attention.

"Hey, kiddo, didn't you hear them call your name?" The demon said, smiling. "You're up, bubbulah. Don't worry, I picked a good song for you." Peter eyed him warily. Wherever this place had come from, it was not his head. But decided not to question it, and went to stand in front of a karaoke machine on stage. He picked up the mike and saw the song, and smiled. He loved this song. EVERYONE loved this song. Luckily, a few years in boy's choir had given him a sense of tune, and puberty had left him with a decent tenor. So, he began to sing.

o/` I can't fight this feeling any longer,
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow... o/`

That was all it took. As if suddenly injected with 100 ccs of pure rock ballad awesome, Peter closed his eyes and began letting the music take him, eventually rocking out. He had forgotten what it was like, honestly. Forgotten the fun of just letting go and having fun. And as he finished up the REO Speedwagon classic, breathing heavily and feeling alive, he wished he hadn't.

But then he opened his eyes to notice more than just his holographic audience had filtered into the "club".

"Uh... Next?" He said as he hastily replaced the mike and went to get a holo-beer.

That was embarrassing.  He could only hope someone would follow him up and make it slightly less so.

[ooc: Start a subthread with your character approaching the stage and singing a song. Characters can react to other's performances even if they aren't singing themselves. And any song you'd like, Lorne has the entire mutliverse on karaoke. I'm not asking, and neither should you.]

"Alright, now, I know some of you are going to call me an idiot for this, but, well, there are reasons." Static said, walking backwards into the sensoriums, playing tour guide to the Outsiders. "I'll be the first to admit, sometimes this is pretty lame, but it's also an amazing team building exercise. I want everyone, at least once, to get up there and try it."

It wasn't the full team; he hadn't been able to find everyone. But, he did grab who he could, and sent a message out to the others to meet him there for the first 'official' team activity.

He was grinning as he led them in. "Everyone, welcome to Karaoke night. And yes, Rose, you can drink. I think."

He quickly rushed up to the bar to tell them his song and grab the mic as soon as it was open. "Here goes nothing..." It wasn't the kindof stuff he always listened to, but it was still good stuff, and he was in a power ballad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U5gJZh5u2Y/) kind of mood.

"Mother mother tell your children
That their time has just begun
I have suffered for my anger
There are wars that can't be won

Father father please believe me
I am laying down my guns
I am broken like an arrow
Forgive me
Forgive your wayward son

Everybody needs somebody to love
(mother, mother)
Everybody needs somebody to hate
(please believe me)
Everybody's bitching
'cause they can't get enough
And it's hard to hold on
When there's no one to lean on

Faith: you know you're gonna live thru the rain
Lord you got to keep the faith
Faith: don't let your love turn to hate
Right now we got to
Keep the faith
Keep the faith
Keep the faith
Lord we got to keep the faith...
"

Rose, who had been dragged along with the group of Outsiders attending the outing, smirked at Virg. "Wow, who knew you could sing?" Rose raised a holo-beer to him in toast.

"What can I say; I am a man of multiple talents. What's yer poison gonna be?"

[identity profile] got-a-bad-habit.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh I know you don't think I am getting up there. Swimming naked with strangers is one thing, singing...that's something else."

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Psh, singing is easy. Especially when you partake of the liquid holo-courage." He raised his hand and flagged the bartender down for a beer. "Besides, what's the worst that could happen? Someone laughs at you. We know you; you'll just cut 'em." He grinned.

[identity profile] got-a-bad-habit.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"No...that's not it." she turned away a bit. "I can sing, just...it's not something I do in front of people, anymore."

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
An eyebrow was raised as Static moved to catch her eye again. "Rose, you gonna be okay? If it's that big of an issue, you don't have to worry about it, but, you know you can talk to me, right?"

He took a swig of his beer. It wasn't bad; certainly better than most of the public school party beers he'd had.

[identity profile] got-a-bad-habit.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"No, just...when I was little mom and I used to sing. I was taught guitar and signing, even some dancing as a kid. That was before my father came into the picture." So there was more to the hard ass pain machine that was Rose Wilson than she usually let on.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"...Ah." Yeah, for being the team leader? Static was never really good at these kinds of things.. too many variables.

"Well, don't force yourself, then. But, maybe you're just looking at it wrong? Rather than not singing as a result of what's happened, have you though about singing to celebrate the good times? I mean, if you and your mom shared so much back then, it'd be a shame to just...let it disappear because of what's happened since."

Really, really not good at this.

Well there was something to think about, that and Slobo's intervention made her sigh, slam the beer and nod.

"ok, ok, I'll give it a go."

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Static smiled. "There'll be a whole new beer waiting for you when you get back."
starlightace: (We're gonna be BFF)

Nanoha smiled a bit, actually having been vaguely familiar with the song. "That wasn't bad at all. I've heard a lot worse."

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Static smiled. "Thanks." Any idea what you're gonna sing?"
starlightace: (Le sigh...)

[personal profile] starlightace 2009-11-13 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Not really. I don't think most people here would know the songs I could sing, anyway."

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Does it matter?Singing's about the self first, then the expression and then the connection with the audience. If you want to sing something, sing it."
starlightace: (Raging Heart Stand By)

[personal profile] starlightace 2009-11-13 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
She chuckled a bit. "Maybe you have a point. I'm fine just watching for right now, though."

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Alright, but the rules of the night are simple; everybody needs to do at least one. Not much of a team building exercise if people avoid it."
starlightace: (Just who do you think I am?)

[personal profile] starlightace 2009-11-13 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
"That's true. All right, I'll try to think of something."

Katara had arrived late, and felt guilty about it. She remindeed herselkf next time not to get caught up wiuth certain people who preferred to push her away no matter what she did. What she DID want to do, however, was get together with her friends and laugha little bit.

When Static was finished, Katara cheered and gave him a big hug. "Hey, good job! You sounded great!"

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks, but I'm nothing special. There's a lot of people who give the song much more meaning than I do."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh shut up, you do the song justice!" Katara said, playfully punching him in the arm. "YOu wouldn;t sing the song if you didn't really like it and gets its meaning."
