Karaoke Night [OPEN]

Between nearly killing himself trying to help people and his talk with Nathan, Peter was exhausted. Even with his upbeat demeanor, it was hard to not say he felt stressed. His flight-breaks no longer helping, he decided he needed to take a few hours. He found himself at the sensoriums, a place he had heard talked about like the holodeck from Star Trek. As he walked in, it was a blank room. He closed his eyes and thought to himself.

I just need a way to relax.

He suddenly heard music, and opened his eyes to what appeared to be a high class nightclub, but filled with the strangest creatures he had ever seen, even since arriving on the ship. Behind the bar, a green-skinned redhead with horns, more conspicuous for his paisley shirt and purple ascot, was trying to get his attention.

"Hey, kiddo, didn't you hear them call your name?" The demon said, smiling. "You're up, bubbulah. Don't worry, I picked a good song for you." Peter eyed him warily. Wherever this place had come from, it was not his head. But decided not to question it, and went to stand in front of a karaoke machine on stage. He picked up the mike and saw the song, and smiled. He loved this song. EVERYONE loved this song. Luckily, a few years in boy's choir had given him a sense of tune, and puberty had left him with a decent tenor. So, he began to sing.

o/` I can't fight this feeling any longer,
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow... o/`

That was all it took. As if suddenly injected with 100 ccs of pure rock ballad awesome, Peter closed his eyes and began letting the music take him, eventually rocking out. He had forgotten what it was like, honestly. Forgotten the fun of just letting go and having fun. And as he finished up the REO Speedwagon classic, breathing heavily and feeling alive, he wished he hadn't.

But then he opened his eyes to notice more than just his holographic audience had filtered into the "club".

"Uh... Next?" He said as he hastily replaced the mike and went to get a holo-beer.

That was embarrassing.  He could only hope someone would follow him up and make it slightly less so.

[ooc: Start a subthread with your character approaching the stage and singing a song. Characters can react to other's performances even if they aren't singing themselves. And any song you'd like, Lorne has the entire mutliverse on karaoke. I'm not asking, and neither should you.]

"Yer a healer. We'll just expect ya ta run in, heal, run away." Slobo said nonchalantly. "We're crazy, not so stupid as ta put ya on the frontlines."

"Pretty much, yeah. You'll be running support with Katara. She'll, essentially, be your bodyguard."

Dark Smoke Puncher wasn't much for the ebonics. In fact, they did drive him insane.

...but he did like rap. As long as they weren't the cliche 'smack a b&%$h, shoot a gun' and other such things. Only so many songs can be about that before it was just mind numbing.

You ready?! Let's go!
Yeah, for those of you that want to know what we're all about
It's like this y'all (c'mon!)

This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

Mike! - He doesn't need his name up in lights
He just wants to be heard whether it's the beat or the mic
He feels so unlike everybody else, alone
In spite of the fact that some people still think that they know him
But f$%# em, he knows the code
It's not about the salary
It's all about reality and making some noise
Making the story - making sure his clique stays up
That means when he puts it down Tak's picking it up! Let's go!

Who the hell is he anyway?
He never really talks much
Never concerned with status but still leaving them star struck
Humbled through opportunities given despite the fact
That many misjudge him because he makes a living from writing raps
Put it together himself, now the picture connects
Never asking for someone's help, or to get some respect
He's only focused on what he wrote, his will is beyond reach
And now it all unfolds, the skill of an artist

This is twenty percent skill
Eighty percent fear
Be a hundred percent clear cause Ryu is ill
Who would've thought that he'd be the one to set the west in flames
And I heard him wreck it with The Crystal Method, "Name Of The Game"
Came back dropped Megadef, took em to church
I like bleach man, why you had the stupidest verse?
This dude is the truth, now everybody's giving him guest spots
His stock's through the roof I heard he's fuckin' with S. Dot!

This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

They call him Ryu, he's sick
And he's spitting fire
And mike got him out the dryer he's hot
Found him in Fort Minor with Tak
What a fuckin' nihilist porcupine
He's a prick, he's a cock
The type woman want to be with, and rappers hope he get shot
Eight years in the making, patiently waiting to blow
Now the record with Shinoda's taking over the globe
He's got a partner in crime, his shit is equally dope
You wont believe the kind of shit that comes out of this kid's throat

Tak! - He's not your everyday on the block
He knows how to work with what he's got
Making his way to the top
He often gets a comment on his name
People keep asking him was it given at birth
Or does it stand for an acronym?
No he's living proof, got him rocking the booth
He'll get you buzzing quicker than a shot of vodka with juice
Him and his crew are known around as one of the best
Dedicated to what they do and give a hundred percent

Forget Mike - Nobody really knows how or why he works so hard
It seems like he's never got time
Because he writes every note and he writes every line
And I've seen him at work when that light goes on in his mind
It's like a design is written in his head every time
Before he even touches a key or speaks in a rhyme
And those motherfuckers he runs with,
The kids that he signed?
Ridiculous, without even trying,
How do they do it?!

This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!"

Katara smiled broadly in Slobo's direction, and then gave Rose a nod and an eager smile. "I thought I saw you in the pool at the Outsider's headquarters. My name is Katara, nice to meet you! Oh, and I really like the eye patch!"

That, and she looked really, really cool. She reminded her a little of that woman that had helped then find Zuko's uncle Iroh.

At the little jibe, Katara bristled a little, anxious to show the Outsider's she wasn't just the mommy member.

"I'll give it a shot," she said, and gave the pitcher a nice, long sip. The taste was definitely different from the beer she'd had. It was stronger, and it made Katara cough a little. Strangely enough, she liked that it was a stronger drink. The beer always took more getting used to.

Outsiders, You know what to do.

Slobo approached the stage.

"Alright, if any o' my teammates wanna join in, here's a classic for everyone."

With that, a beat and hook begin playing.

o/` Bust it

This here's a tale for all the fellas,
Tryin ta do what those ladies tell us,
Get shot down cuz yer overzealous,
Play hard ta get, females get jealous... o/`

Static ran and jumped up on the stage, throwing his arm around Slobo.

"Ok smartie, go to a party,
Girls are scantily clad and showin' body,
A chick walks by you wish you could sex her,
But you're standin on the wall like you was Poindexter...
"

Rose just shook her head. "There is not enough booze or pain in the world to get me up there for that."

How could he not?

It's a while, but Nanoha finally steps up to the stage to sing herself, having finally found a song she'd like to sing. She smiles out at the crowd a little sheepishly before picking up the microphone, and when she starts to sing ... well, she's not the best singer in the world, and she can't hit all of the notes, but she's not quite that bad, either.

It's a sad song, but she still looks happy as she sings it, and regardless of the language she's singing in, this is what everyone on the ship hears:

"♪Our last kiss
tasted like tobacco,
a bitter and sad smell
Tomorrow, at this time
where will you be?
Who will you be thinking about?

You are always gonna be my love,
even if I fall in love with someone once again
I'll remember to love,
you taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
It's still a sad song,
until I can sing a new song

The paused time is
about to start moving
There's many things that I don't want to forget about

Tomorrow, at this time,
I will probably be crying
I will probably be thinking about you

You will always be inside my heart,
you will always have your own place
I hope that I have a place in your heart too
Now and forever you are still the one
It's still a sad song
until I can sing a new song

You are always gonna be my love,
even if I fall in love with someone once again
I'll remember to love,
you taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
It's still a sad song
until I can sing a new song♪"

The song ended, she put the microphone back in its stand and smiled, though her cheeks were ever so slightly red.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Static clapped, loudly. "See? Feels good, eh?"

"Oh yeah! Sorry everything got kinda fuzzy after toaster boy there took a dip." Rose grinned through that and She sidled up to the bar where Katara was sitting, other side from where Virg was.

"You made the wave things in the water right? Pretty cool deal. So is that like water control or seismic stuff? I knew a chick who did the whole geo-control thing before."

Rose happily accepted a whiskey sour, not too bad. She sipped and speared her maraschino cherry with the straw, nibbling on it with white even teeth.

"What...is it they're singing?"

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Static clapped. He didn't say anything, just smiled and clapped.

He was being outclassed by everyone he was supposed to lead...

[identity profile] notastaffchick.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hunter nods at that. He'd seen Katara in action during the Yeerk fight in the city, both as a healer and as a fighter. "All right."

... he is going to be in trouble if Katara ever gets taken out, though.

Slobo had a pint of lager placed in front of him to replace the one he seemed to have already chugged. Anyone not looking at him having directly done that would have simply caught a flash of movement and empty glass. This one he favored. He leaned over to Static.

"So... Uh... The girls we got are... Friendly..." He said to Static very quietly, sounding almost nervous. It's hard for him to ask for guy advice, but his body language may be saying it for him.

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"And we're gonna have yer back, too. Teammates don't leave eachother to rot, man." Slobo said matter-of-factly. "We support each-other."

Re: Outsiders Karaoke

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Static slapped him on the shoulder. "Just shut up and drink." Who, Static? Bitter? Never...

He chugged his own drink and ordered another.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Katara beamed and walked back to the Outsider's table.

"So what should we sing next? Would you like to try a duet with me Static?"

outsiders Karaoke 2: Electric Boogaloo

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it was because he'd been drinking, or maybe it was just how the night had gone, but Static was getting a little depressed. Sure, he had his whole team (except Mai) here, and they were having a good time; heck, they'd all sung something nice and personal. Except him, he'd gone with a classy power ballad. Well, it was time to switch it up.

"Alright, guys, time for my round 2." Static said, setting down his beer and getting up to the stage. The beat kicked in heavy, and Static sighed. Someone was going to yell at him for this, he was sure. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKlMOblghiQ)

"Lose my head to the chemical freeway
Comin' up on overload
In a mystic new dimension
Purify and sanctify me
What, so I'm in no end game
Move my piece right off the board
Losing sure is easy so I am no more

But I'm not broken, in my dream I win
In here I'm nothing, a Cosmic Castaway

In my head I'm a chemical dreamer
Speed up to burn out mode
Comin' up in the 5th dimension
Beautify don't crucify me, yeah
So I need no mind game poisoning my lonely soul
Losing sure is easy so I am no more

But I'm not broken, in my dream I win
And I take over, coz I'm no loser
And I'm in and you're not, bad dreams don't stop
But I'm all screwed up, a Cosmic Castaway
a Cosmic Castaway, a Cosmic Castaway

And I want but have not
Bad dreams, lust thoughts
In here with no pain, you hurt me again
And I want but have none
I should beat the alien
But here I'm no one, a Cosmic Castaway
a Cosmic Castaway, a Cosmic Castaway
a Cosmic Castaway
."

He set the mic down almost an an afterthought, went back to the group, and pounded his beer.

Outsiders, you know what (Rose and Hunter are not going) to do.

[identity profile] notastaffchick.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
"That would be Bust a Move." Hunter says with a sigh. No, he is not going to participate. One song in here was more than enough for him.

Nanoha laughed. "I never said it didn't! ...but it was fun to do."

"Then c'mon, join the rest of the group." Static nodded his head towards everyone else. "'Bout time you got to meet 'em."

"It sounds like some really pathetic dated rap song. Maybe if we keep drinking it'll get better." Rose tipped back her drink and gulped some down.

"So... are you and Virg...close?" Rose asked Katara with a raised brow.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Static shrugged. "Doesn't matter to me. I'm just happy to have everyone out."
