Phase 2 - Running the Ratrace

You have my sincerest apologies, but I have my mission.

The traps start. Rotating blades coming out of the walls and floors and ceilings, jets of fire, lasers, holographic enemies. The clear walls of the maze let them see what's happening to everyone else.

The traps start, and they have to stay alive despite them. If they stop avoiding them, it's their own fault, you see, if they die. That makes it indirect enough for Stacy's Anti-harming-the-crew protocols to be avoided, as Hal, despite his reprogramming, still has to follow some constraints.

Please commence with killing yourselves by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The only chance the group has is if they work together to stay alive, and somehow they have to take out the shield projectors creating the maze even though they themselves are shielded...

[ooc: Cooperation is key, people. Hal can only adapt to one power/skill-set at a time, not all of them.]

Owwww. Owwww. Is my eye gone? It feels like--

My head... my head feels--

Give us away. I know. And you're low on energy after that blast. We're lucky that he didn't register a reading from you doing that small energy shield in front of my face. Although I would have appreciated maybe a bigger one--it wasn't enough to really disperse the energy from the blast. Ow.

Instead of perforating, it just was very...concussive. Hence blasting the armor of his face to bits--and gouging the hell out of it in the process. But not enough to kill him. More like if you were wearing a bulleproof vest over your head and someone shot you in the face.

Hey, I'm grateful. Although, you know, we really need to stop doing this fake-death thing. It's getting real old, real fast.

Okay, he had to to--had to focus. Focus. Focus focus focus. Mentally steeling himself, Jaime finally got his poor concussed brain focused on the actual task before him.

The others. What's their status?

Aural information then.

Let them in. The telepaths. I know you hate telepaths poking around, but you have to let them in. Unblock me.

There's the equivalent of a scarab-ey sigh, and then Jaime thinks as hard as he can at the telepaths.

Guys, I need you to NOT react to hearing this or I'm done for, but I'm alive. And I have plan.

At least Jono has an excuse for nearly tripping. The dragon appearing where the panther had been was enough of a surprise. The sound of THAT voice, however, makes the stumble a little more. He waves off anybody who makes note of it. 'M fine. Jus' surprised, he says, before reaching for Jaime and Jean both. It might not be the Jean from his world, but linking in couldn't be that different.

Reyes?

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2009-10-25 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
No, I'm the tooth fairy.

A pause.

Sorry, I just got shot in the face, so, uh, I'm a little cranky right now. Like I said, don't tell anyone else I'm alive, because if someone reacts, I'm toast.

He ought to explain how.

Scarab put the last of his power into a little energy shield, but I still got smacked in the face really hard--my eye's all messed up, I think my face is broken, and I'm pretty sure I've got a concussion but scarab's knitting me back together. Just...really slowly and discreetly, so Hal doesn't pick up on it. Ow. He's also masking my vitals, and hiding my breathing and keeping me really...still. Hal thinks I'm dead and I was lucky he didn't just vaporize me or something.

And like I said, I have a plan. Which requires me still acting dead for a bit. I need you two to pass it along and pretend you thought it up. Then I'll move when the time is right.

[identity profile] psi-flames.livejournal.com 2009-10-25 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
'Sokay. I ain't always at me bes' when I been shot in the face, neither. Okay, so Jono's not been shot in the face before, but the sentiment is there!

He flicks his eyes toward Jean. Which is something that could be easily written off later as working on the plan. Which...it kind of was, still. Reckon we could manage 'at. Roight, Ms. Grey?

[identity profile] doctor-jeangrey.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Jean blicks, her eyebrows furrowing as she heard the sound of Jaime's voice. Luckily the furrowed eyebrows could be taken as her concentrating on the flowing magma, but she highly doubted anyone was paying attention to her anyway.

Nice to know you're still with us, Jaime...

Her gaze cuts to Jono and she nods. I'm confident we can manage. What exactly is your plan Jaime?

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
First, gimme a lowdown on our situation. Are there traps? Scarab thinks there's traps, but I can't scan and I can't look without being noticed.

[identity profile] doctor-jeangrey.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
By traps do you mean the nice laser guns, sink holes, jets of fire and magma coming from everywhere? Because if that's what you're asking, then yes... There are traps.

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. Scarab disabled Hal's main electronic sensor before he kicked us out. Destroyed it when we were wreaking havoc on his systems. He's flying blind and relying on the small network of Stacy's sensors he controls that he hid from us. Kept dormant.

His thoughts become clearer as the scarab subtly repairs the damage to his body.

First of all: the sensors. They do have electronic components and can be effected by electronic means, but they're also nerve tissue. Like brains. I think they can be affected by telepaths like you guys and our illusionists. Coordinate the others telepathically. Bamboozle the sensors--you'll probably have to work together to maintain a single, solid illusion.

Fake that everyone's dying to the sensors--and to Hal, but do it slowly. Buy time. That means the traps will stop going for the real people and go for whatever you project, leaving our teams unscathed, so make sure you project something where they don't get hurt accidentally anyway.

Second stage: The others can't really go for the shield and holographic projectors directly--those were shielded, I'm assuming they still are--but while you're fooling the sensors, they can damage the tissue AROUND them and the projectors. That tissues holds the nerves connecting up the entire network. That'll regenerate, but that'll shut everything down.

We'll need everyone to help--it's a lot of tissue to damage, and bullets, ray beams, fire blasts, whatever, as long as it damages her tissue we'll need it. We're essentially CORING them out, like destroying someone's ability to see by damaging just the area around the eye and the ocular nerve rather than the eye itself.

If you can get everyone set up to take down every one of them at the exact same time, we'll have a shot at this. Every sensor, projector, and shield will be down before Hal has time to retaliate.

He calls up what he remembers of where all the sensors and projectors are--something he managed to steal from Hal before being disconnected.

Here's where they all are, can you see it? There's also one above me. I'll need you to mess with the sensor above me just like all the others to make it look like I'm still dead so I can move too. It's going to be fast. You fool the sensors, including mine, everyone takes advantage of that to core out all the sensors and holographic projectors, then I'll destroy the shield and sensor here, leaving Hal wide open.

ALL of the shields should be down, and he'll be blind, but he'll still be able to defend himself with energy tentacles and block attacks, and probably smack them around until he kills me. Everyone needs to be ready to completely blast him then and take him out once and for all, so make sure they're ready.

And, uh...that's my plan.

[identity profile] psi-flames.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Jono shifts on the back of the dragon, looking toward Jean again. And doing his best to ignore the carnage that was going on around them. There wasn't time to get distracted and he couldn't relay what was happening to Jaime. Not if this was to work.

Reckon it'll work. Not sure how t' 'splain where we got the info from, but we'll figure it out. He looks forward at the back of Billy's helmet, pensive. I'll take the sensor over you meself. Seem t' 'ave less t' concentrate on 'ere 'an Jean does. Might as well take advantage of it.

[identity profile] doctor-jeangrey.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Sending another telepathic blast at the magma which was trying to get at her team, Jean nods.

I think we should start the illusion with the first team and slowly work our way back, that way we all know exactly what's going on and where we've already set the trick up.

Jaime, you're sure you're up for this?

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks like I'll have to be, don't you think?

But yeah. I can do this.

It's right then that a scream of agony (http://community.livejournal.com/trans_9/156698.html?thread=11895578#t11895578) rends the air.

Paco!

Jaime's blood runs ice-cold, and it takes everyone single scrap of will he has not to move, not to cry out, not to look. It is akin to torture, hearing your best friend scream in agony, and knowing that to help save them, you can't even open open your eyes to see if they're alive.

Is he okay? What happened?!

[identity profile] psi-flames.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Jono's head swivels toward the scream, Jaime's cry giving the voice a name. Which is more than Jono had before. He casts his mind that direction, not trying to distract but absorbing what happened. His eyes narrow.

'E's alive. He's too far away to see properly and there's too much going on to get a good feel for what's actually happening. 'E's injured, though. Bad. Shocky. He's with Kon an' Wonder Girl, though. They got 'im. Hey. Kon he's been around for a while. Cassie's someone he hasn't quite caught the name of, though.

It wasn't good. They had to expect injuries just because of what they were doing, but that didn't mean it was easy to deal with.

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
How bad?

If a mental voice could be sobbing hysterically, well...

Yet it made it all the more incredible he could still stay still during all this, fighting down every urge he has just to look.

[identity profile] psi-flames.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, the answer isn't likely to calm Jaime in the least.

'M sorry, mate. His 'voice' is soft. Looks like 'e's lost an arm. Looks like they've got the bleedin' stopped, at least. Which was some of the rest of the screaming, honestly.

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Tears almost squeeze out through the eyelid of his good eye. Almost. But he manages to suppress the urge to cry.

Regardless, the guilt is almost palpable.

But he has a job to do, and they have a job to do too.

Spread the plan. Start getting everyone ready.

[identity profile] tobiasf.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Tobias decides he needs extra blades before fighting time. He demorphs back into his hawk form and then after a second's pause, he remorphs to hork-bajir. If there are a lot of tentacles in his future, he needs more than just a tail blade to deal with them.
