Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

Chris stiffened ever so slightly at Jill's voice. This was definitely something he needed to do, but, he wasn't looking forward to it either.

"Yea... all set, I guess. How 'bout you? You got everything you need?"

"Yeah, I think I'm good. The plan for holing up is solid, the church is pretty defensible. We've got a secure spot for the kids and some pretty decent people who can defend them."

She was dodging the issue really, talking only about tactics and readiness and nothing about the looming prospect of this reunion being cut very short for them.

"Yea, churches usually are pretty solidly built..." Chris trailed off, trying to think of something, anything, to reassure Jill, but he had to admit that he had no idea as to what exactly he'd be going up against.

"Jill... I want you to stay close to Claire, Leon, and Sherry, alright? You and Claire are my whole world right now, and I don't want anything to happen to either of you... and Leon is a damn fine soldier. You three will be hard pressed to be overcome like that..."

Chris sighed a bit, wanting to do something, but didn't know if it was really the right time or place.

"Yeah." So they had established churches were good.

"Look, I'll keep an eye on them. But don't sell your sister short, she's a pretty tough chick." She had no doubt they had a good team, and the others looked like they could handle themselves as well.

But they were just the defense team, Chris was actually heading into the heart of the danger. She hooked her arm through his to tug him over a step or two away from everyone else. Jill tipped her head back to look up at the red head. "You really set? You have enough spare clips? Don't take off your body armor for anything, cover your six. I'm not going to be there to watch your back, so you have to be extra alert. You gotta come back to me."

Chris found it rather hard to breath for a moment after finding himself isolated with Jill. Not that he minded in the least. In fact, he found one hand resting on her hip, unconsciously.

"Jill," he interrupted, his free hand resting on her head. "I have everything I need. I've got fifty clips for the L. Hawk, and 30 spare shells for the Hydra. And why would I ever take off my armor in a combat situation? Jill, I'm coming back. Like I told Claire a while back, I've got too much to live for. I've got no intention of dying. And besides, there are a lot of damn fine soldiers and fighters coming with me. I'm not going to be in any danger, I promise, Jill."

"I know I just..." Jesus, things had never been like this before. Saying goodbye and good luck to your partner was one thing, but when you have more at stake than that, when you were admittedly emotionally involved things got more complex

"I don't want you doing something stupid to get out of our date, I'm holding you to it you know."

Chris smirked a bit, chuckling. "Jill, I'm not going to do anything stupid. You know me. I don't take risks on the battlefield like that. Besides, I'm holding you to that date too, you know."

And there it was. He couldn't help it, he needed to do this before heading out. It was strange, but, it felt sort of natural, dipping his head down for a quick kiss.

"Hey! I'm not the one who ran off an-" Anything else was cut off with that quick movement and the kiss that stole her words as well as her thoughts. Moving with the speed that had eared her a place in special forces, she hooked a hand behind his neck to prolong that peck into something more substantial. Finally releasing him enough to wrap her arms around him in a bulky and armor encumbered hug.

"You make it back o.k. and I'll even cook." She held him a tight as their gear would allow knowing in a moment he'd be heading out into battle and she'd be rallying with the troops to defend the rest of them.

Chris offered no resistance, and found himself holding Jill just as tightly. When the moment that he would have been content to allow to go on forever ended, he just let his forehead rest against Jill's.

"I'll look forward to it. I miss when you cooked back in... well... yea... anyway, you just stay safe too, okay? If you think I'm overprotective of you and Claire now, just wait until one of you gets shot. You won't ever have a moment's peace, I can guarantee you that."

"Flattering as the idea of you hovering at my bedside is, I think I could do without the whole serious injury thing, I have no plans on dying anytime soon." She chucked his shoulder and stepped back, hands pressing to the small of her back as she rocked forward on the balls of her feet.

"So I guess this is it, I should probably get over to the Vatican and help with the barricades, learn the chain of command here." She nodded to herself, good things to know. "I'll be waiting for you, Redfield. Come back to me." This time though she said it with a smile.

"Trust me, you wouldn't enjoy it. Ask Claire, I can lecture indefinitely on that subject." He grinned a bit, leaning in to kiss Jill's forehead.

Chris returned that smile, brushing a lock of hair from her face. "You'd just better be there when I get back. And I promise, I'll come back to you Jill. If there's something I've learned over the years, there's literally nothing that can keep us apart."

"I'll be there, and when things get sticky I'm planting myself beside Claire and Sherry. I won't let anything happen to them." She reached up to stroke his cheek, grinning a bit at the rough growth of stubble and the tired look of his eyes. "You look like shit Redfield, when you get back you are defiantly gonna need a shower and shave before our date."

She backed up, a few paces giving him a chance to retort before she turned and headed back to the church, there was work to do.

Chris chuckled a bit, his hand only releasing his grip on Jill's hips reluctantly. "Heh, perhaps you should join me, y'know, make sure I clean up enough for ya."

He grinned watching her leave, hoping to catch a glance of her cheeks reddining from the teasing joke.
