Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

About a quarter inch from the chest plate, Leon's knuckles strike something solid. The Chief's shields flare up a little around the light impact, a web of faint golden sparks briefly highlighting the invisible barrier over the armor.

"Shield systems functioning at full capacity," says the Chief in explanation.

"Yes, Kennedy?"

"I see." That was certainly a surprise about the shields.

Truth be told, Leon wasn't worried for the Chief's safety. And he knew he'd look after everyone else. So that wasn't an issue. But he still wanted to wish the man luck.

"Try not to have too much fun out there."

"As long as you do too. Gotta be fair."

The Chief gets the sentiment, though he knows this is going to be far from fun.

Though it will be good to be moving again. There's little he hates more than sitting idle. It's not what he's for.

"I'll try not to party too hard."

He smirked, then hit the Chief's shield a little harder this time.

"Take care of yourself out there, Chief."

The shield flare is proportionally brighter this time in response.

"I always do."

The Chief's own safety is really the least of his problems, but it's the same thing he's gotten from his Spartans. Less over the years, but still there. He's not accustomed to familiarity from outside that very small group.
