Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

Katara took the revolver a moment, considering it. It might be a good idea to take something like this after all: she couldn't predict what would happen in the heat of battle. She took the bigger, weightier gun and thought it might actually make more sense to have something like this strapped to her back. she liked the way it fit.

"A wife huh?" Katara said, smiling. "Well, I hope she comes here soon, or shouldn't I hope that? we are fighting to get off this ship in the first place, right? Who knows: maybe you'll be able to see her sooner than expected, and you'll haves some good memories to think about."

She doubted it though. "Just take care of yourself, okay Allen?"

"Yeah, yeah."

He's distracted by a moment, thinking more about Irene - but he shakes the thoughts off. This is not the time for wishful thinking.

"Have you learned to load one of those yet?"

Clearly she favors the semiautos, but how is he to know if she's ever even held a revolver?

Katara knew that distracted look: she'd sported it before when thinking of Aang here, and was sure she had it enough times in the cell, with really nothing to do but reflect back on certain memories.

She shook her head. "I haven't yet." Personally she was hoping she wouldn't have to.

"Might as well learn. That one isn't loaded either."

He pulls out one of his own revolvers and unloads it, thumbing the release latch and catching the six bullets in his palm.

"There's a release latch on the side of the gun. Pop it and slide the cylinder out like this."

Katara watched him, then repeat the action: it was a little awkward at first, but after three more tries, Katara caught on. In any case she could see that she would have to adjust her stance when she fired the thing: it was a bit heavier. The bite back on it was a bit harsher, she could tell she'd have to use it if their enemy needed to be taken down with a heavy blow.

Though she might just need to use a water whip as well.

"Thank you," Katara said, giving him a short bow.

"No problem."

He bowed back, but it was a lot more comical - less fluid, more an imitation.

"Who trained you on semis?"

Katara liked that. Not too many people returned the bow, even if it was a little funny.

"Slobo did," Katara said. "Apparently, he's pretty good at fragging enemies."

She said the alien word without showing a sign that she was talking a slang word differnt from her world. The boys were having a rather interesting effect on her.

Allen snickers. It's unexpected comedy, PG-filtered cursing coming from Katara.

"Is he on the coming or staying team?"

Katara didn't quite get what was funny7, but she went along with it.

"He's coming with us," Katara replied. "Good thing too: I've seen him practicing on one of the dummies. Let's just say that I'm glad that he's on our team."

"Lotta people on this ship I'd say that about. All things considered, I feel safer just considering the company sort of HAS to be on our side."

"Yeah, that makes sense," Katara said, looking a little wary. "But are we sure that the other side won't be needing any help as badly as we do? What exactly is waiting for them back there, once we try to hijack the bridge?"
