Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

Luke caught sight of a familiar face when he was standing around, fingering the hilt of the crysknife Arha had given him. The symbolism behind this gift wasn't one that Luke had missed, not with the words she had spoken to him, and he sighed, hoping that it wouldn't come to the dire circumstances she seemed to have been imagining as he walked over to Steve.

"Hey, Steve," he said, a little smile on his face all the same. He was excited, just... apprehensive. "You going, or staying behind?"

"I'm staying here," Steve confirmed. He managed a vague smile at Luke and shrugged. "Dunno what I'd be able to do going along." It was probably too dangerous anyway.

"Are you going?"

"Yeah," Luke said. "A Jedi defends those who need defending and helps to restore balance in the Force. If I didn't go I'd feel funny for not adhering to the principles I've lived by for years." He gestured to the guns. "You're sure well-prepared, at least."

He nodded in confirmation and held up his two guns. "Yeah... I'm actually not bad. I kind had to learn quick, but I can hold my own in a fight." He looked a little more confident in that statement, but still a little uneasy.

"I hate not knowing what's gonna happen."

"Don't fear the unknown," Luke said, putting a hand on Steve's shoulder. "Be cautious, but not to the point of inaction. Inaction is worse than failure. You'll be fine. Have a little confidence in yourself. I sure have it in you."

Steve's arms crossed a little tighter over his chest, and he looked to be thinking over that one. "Okay," he said finally, nodding again. "I'll be fine."

He looked like he wanted to say something for a moment and appeared to waffle back and forth on it a few times before he finally spoke again. "You be careful too," he said quickly, his face turning red. "I'm sick of saying goodbye to people."

Luke grinned, and stepped in, pulling the young man he'd begun to think of as a valued student into a brief hug. "I know the feeling," he said as he stepped back. "Trust your instincts, and remember what I told you about when we spoke last. Focus will bring you a clearer path. And you can sure bet that I'll be back when this is all done."

Steve didn't return the hug, mostly because he was so stunned it happened he didn't really think about it until Luke already had him at arm's length. He stared back at him a little cluelessly for a second like he wasn't quite sure what to do.

"Well, uh. I'll see you when you get back, then," he said with an awkward smile.

"See you then." Luke turned and headed back to the group, a little smile on his face. He had no doubt Steve would make it through this just fine.
