Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

"I will," Sherry promised earnestly. She cared a lot for Claire, and the last thing she wanted was to see Claire hurt again (though she was sure that the older woman wanted to go through recovery all over again even less). "I promise." Sherry smiled at him, and then looked momentarily hesitant, as if she were pondering a last-minute decision.

The little girl threw her arms around his big shoulders and hugged him, her heart hammered in her ribcage nervously. She only hoped Chris didn't suddenly decide to squish her like a tube of toothpaste. "I'll watch Mom until you get back."

That was unexpected, but it wasn't unwelcome. He put an arm around Sherry, tightening slightly, but he made sure he didn't hurt the small girl. He was well aware that he was fully capable of breaking the girl if he wasn't careful, but that in itself made him extra careful in hugging the small girl.

"Thanks. I know you'll do great. Just be careful, okay?"

That, and the fact the little girl in question was still recovering from having a parasite pulled from her body a few short days ago. Sherry appreciated his gentleness like he wouldn't believe. She pulled away from the hug first (people friendly, thy name is Sherry), and offered him a tired smile.

"I already said I would be," she wagged a finger at him.

Kids these days.

Chris chuckled, a bit, patting Sherry on the head. "Heh. You sound too much like your mom did at your age already. Just make sure your Mom is just as careful, okay?"

She smiled a little wider, obviously pleased by the comparison. "I will." In fact, she probably needed to go looking for one of her parents right then, all the social playacting had worn her right out. Sherry rubbed at her eye and ducked her head to hide her yawn from him.

"Be careful, Uncle Chris."

Chris chuckled a bit, seeing a mental image of a young Claire doing the same thing when she was tired, and noted Sherry was just as cute as Claire was. "I will, kiddo. I'll see about getting you some Ice Cream or something when I get back. Okay?"

She knew he was just being nice, and didn't even physically purse her lips at him like she was on the inside. "I'd like that," she replied after a moment. Even if he would probably scare the ice cream into melting, at least she would be attempting to be normal with him.

Maybe he liked boring flavors, too.

"Don't worry, kiddo. Everything is gonna be alright, I promise." Chris knew he couldn't keep everyone from being hurt, but he felt like Sherry needed some kind of assurance. "You just worry about getting some rest right now."
