Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

He had to keep himself from laughing right then. A Redfield being worried about overkill was just too funny a thought.

He didn't laugh, though, but still had a wide smile on his face.

"No, I don't think so. You of all people should know that some things can never be too dead."

She could hazard a guess as to what Leon was thinking from the smile on his face, but she ignored it. It had been a while since she'd handled anything much larger than the handgun she already had, and she wasn't exactly expecting to be on the front lines, but still.

"Point. I was thinking something in the grenade launcher realm of things. Something I'm already familiar with."

"That won't be a problem."

His smile faded a little as his thoughts about the situation got more serious. Leon had a feeling that damn near all of them would be on the front lines whether they wanted to or not. It was best to be prepared.

"You ready for this?"

Claire exhaled at his question, patting the gun strapped to her hip.

"As ready as I'm gonna be," she replied. Which really meant she wasn't, but it wasn't like they had an option to sit this out. "You?"

Leon just handwaved casually. "This is like an average Thursday, really. Only in space."

She smiled at that, reaching out to punch him gently on the arm.

"Oh you people and your danger."

He only smiled back. "That's the job I signed up for."

Though, being somewhere strange and ending up fighting something he was completely unprepared for? That was a fairly regular occurrence in his line of work.

He may look for a new job if they get home.

"Uh-huh," Claire replied, rolling her eyes and shaking her head before looking back at him. Seriousness settling into her expression she tilted her head slightly.

"Job or not, you better be careful."

Under more normal circumstances, he might give a somewhat sarcastic answer to that. But he knew how worried she was. And he was just as worried about her.

"I will. And you be careful too."

Claire was overcome by a fairly awkward feeling and didn't answer him right off, looking around instead to make sure Chris wasn't in immediate view. Once she was sure her brother wasn't going to materialize out of the crowd to start asking questions she leaned forward and looped her arms around Leon's neck, pulling close to him.

"That's what this stupid vest is for," she finally muttered, hovering for a moment like she was about to say something else, before deciding against it. Instead she just kissed him on the cheek before leaning back.

The hug was actually a little awkward for him at first. He was decked out in full tactical gear, and no one really hugged him while he was dressed like that, for fairly obvious reasons. His frame of mind was also gearing up more into combat mode, so being kissed on the cheek threw him a little.

That was not part of his normal 'gearing up for a fight' routine.

But it wasn't unwelcome either, especially from Claire. Just... new. But there had been a lot of new things happening with them lately.

His expression was somewhat confused at first, though it settled into a warm smile. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close.

"Only you..." He shook his head a little, though he was still smiling. Leave it to her come along and knock him off his game with something so simple.

Claire was not by definition a warrior. She knew some of the psychology that went into pre-battle preparations, but she was never exactly the kind of person who could psych herself up for a fight. She lived moment to moment, so when the fighting began, then she'd be ready for it. So it hadn't even occurred to her that Leon might be thrown off by a relatively innocent kiss to the cheek. The confused expression clued her in, though, and she sighed a little, giving him a half smile.

"We're going to need to talk about this at some point, aren't we?" Feeling awkward around Leon just didn't sit right with her.

He let out a sigh.

They probably already should have talked about it, but with this whole mess with the bridge looming, Leon had been up to neck in work.

...He was always up to his neck in work. Which is a large part of the reason why he hadn't been in a relationship for a number of years.

"Yeah... we are. And we will." That much he could promise her.

She nodded her head, allowing her arms to slack up a little.

"Once all of this has died down, things'll be calm for a couple days, hopefully." Assuming that no other disasters immediately presented themselves, that is.

"Hopefully," he repeated. His arms loosened from around her, but he didn't quite let go yet. "I might take another mini-vacation and crash in your room again."

The smirk reappeared on her face at that and she gently patted his arm where she was still hanging on, tilting her head to the side.

"Sounds good to me."

"It's a date."
