Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

"Killing Shel-Boath was one of my earlier trials," Roxie says, looking over at Borg. "It would be easier for me today, but dragons are always very dangerous." She glances over at Sherry. "I'll be protecting you," she says. "But I'll be fighting if they need me."

Which she's decided without talking to anyone else, apparently. But, then again, there is Katara, and she's the same age...

Sherry closes her eyes and sighs. There's nothing to do but accept Roxie's answer, as the older girl tends to do what she likes, anyway. "You're at least going to tell someone, aren't you? When we get there?

"It's fine that you'll be protecting, but, I don't think they'd appreciate sudden, surprise help as much as they would if you fit in with their plans." Always the voice of reason, their Sherry.

Yuri thought for a moment she meant she was going with the expedition to the bridge and began nervously shifting from foot to foot. "I'll feel more safe with Roxie-chan around."

"I don't want either of you to get hurt," Roxie says, and she actually smiles, for a brief moment. And then it's gone. Her gaze flicks from Yuri to Sherry—she doesn't quite trust Borg, her expression says, but he has at least a prerogative to protect Yuri. Sherry has no such guardian.

Sherry quells the urge to check Roxie for a temperature (she smiled? Roxie smiled? and Vega missed it? For shame), and nods. "That's good to know. Still, let someone know before you go running into battle. They probably won't approve, of course, but, you have a better chance of not being shot."

Actually, all the guns being toted about make Sherry sort of nervous. She knows what happens when people panic and start shooting wildly. Her lesson back at home taught her that very well.

"I can shield your friend too, Yuri." Borg speaks up sleepily. He has no interest in weapons besides the ones inside his body. In fact he considers the human obsession with technology to be in a way dishonest. There is no contract there, no sharing for the use of a gun. You do not merge with the gun, you merely fire it. He feels a profound sympathy for those objects, used then thrown away. That is not the law of the culture he hails from.

But back to the topic at hand, he finds his life much easier when Yuri is not bawling her tiny head off, no matter how delicious tears might be sometimes.

Yuri notices the smile too and grins happily back. "Don't try to be all heroic. Things only get worse when someone does that."

Roxie doesn't really care about guns. They can't hurt her much, and she can't use them very well.

"I don't really do 'heroic'," she says, very matter-of-factly.

Sherry stretches and winces. "True, you kind of walk the... beneficially malevolent line sometimes, Roxie." What with flashbanging and sending chattering teeth of doom after Kon.
