The Call

Jaime Reyes voice sounds over the comm-rings--all of them--and it sounds very urgent.

« Everyone on the ship, listen up! This is Jaime Reyes, your local 'Blowing this pop stand' coordinator and escape facilitation engineer. I need everyone on the ship to come to the City, in front of the Precinct, immediately. Grab people who don't have their comm rings with them--and tell them to grab their comm rings, people who are sleeping, whoever you find, and try to make sure everyone on the ship knows to come. This is very important. This is "getting the heck out of here" important. »

When they arrive, they arrive to find the Command Staff waiting, and a tiny, tiny young man standing on stone ledge from a fountain, waiting for them.

Here goes nothing.

"Well those who are addicted have eyes a bit like mine. Blue-in-blue, but so blue that they sometimes appear to be black. Others... Well there are the Guild Navigators who have mutated due to being continuously immersed in highly-concentrated amounts of spice gas. They no longer look like a human, rather more like a humanoid fish." Ghani explained.

"I suppose you have nothing such as that in your world?" Ghani asked, her gaze becoming slightly curious.

"No, not that I've seen," Jamie admits. "Usually ye see people who drink too much where their noses get redder, or they lose weight because they lose themselves in the drug and dinna eat, but nothing like a fishperson."

He grins just a bit. "Actually, that's not quite true. I have seen fishpeople, aye? But it wasna a mutation, it was surgery."

While she supposed taking spice and changing one's self that way was really no different than having surgery to do so... It still caused her eyebrow to arch in question. "Why ever would they wish to do that?"

"So they could breathe underwater." Jamie shakes his head in disbelief. "I know they did it so they could farm - because they farmed those wee little creatures fish eat - but it seems to me they could have some up with some other solution."

Ghani just stares at Jamie, because that is the strangest thing she's heard in a long while. "Did they not have breathing apparatuses?"

Jamie's lived a rather strange life. "No. Ye would think that would make more sense, but apparently they felt it better to have the surgery." He shrugs, as if to say, 'What can you do?'

He looks over at Ghamina's eyes thoughtfully for a moment, and changes the subject. "I dinna think I've introduced myself, have I? I'm Jamie."

Perhaps it would have made sense, though since when did humanity seem to do anything that ever truly made sense?

She has gotten rather use to people staring at her eyes, and by now it doesn't even faze her. "It is an honor to meet you Jamie," Ghani states with a slight bow of her head. "I am Ghanima, Ghanima Atreides."

"And I've not given ye my last name. Ye must think I'm terribly rude. It's McCrimmon. But I would be happy if ye just called me Jamie."

There's a small start from him as a niggling question at the back of Jamie's mind is suddenly answered. "Och, I've heard your name before. I think ye've met a Dave Lister?"

"Oh?" Ghani's brows furrowed for a moment, but then smiled hearing Dave Lister's name. "Yes, I've met him. I'm curious to know why he brought my name up..."

"Ah, well..." Jamie hesitates for a moment, unsure whether it's the best subject to broach. But now that he's mentioned Lister, he decides to go ahead with it anyway.

"Well, we were discussing fighting robots. And he was wondering if it was just his Earth that got along with them, and that's when your name came up."

"Ah," Ghani murmured with a nod of her head. "Well in my world, which is not Earth - since it has long been abandoned - thinking machines, robots and computers for example, are forbidden and with good reason."

She tilts her head a little to the side, studying Jamie. "I take it, from what you've said, that robots are not well thought of in your world?"

"Er," Jamie commented helpfully. "It's...I'm sure there are some verra helpful robots. Can't say that I've met many of them, aye?" He purses his lips, looking thoughtful. "At least, before coming here, anyway."

Re: Gathering

"Perhaps that is so," Ghani admits with a small shrug of her shoulders - though she's not meaning it really. "I have not conversed in length with any of the think- robots that are on this ship, so I can't say if I find them helpful or not."

She most assuredly does not think Stacy is helpful - the whole being kidnapped from her world might have something to do with that though... And maybe a little bit has to do with Ghani being very stubborn as well.

"Well, they've not punched me in the face, so I find that verra helpful." He's joking - somewhat.

"Actually, the Brainiac 5 that's a cyborg is pretty decent." He does mean that - it's something he's been turning over in his head for a bit now. "It's just that...well, when ye grow up with something that doesn't exist, and then ye find yourself somewhere where the something all of a sudden /does/ exist and then the ones that exist are not verra nice and then you find yourself somewhere else where they exist but aren't actively trying to hurt ye..."

It takes some getting used to. As likely does Jamie's explanation, because it's pretty muddled.
