The Call

Jaime Reyes voice sounds over the comm-rings--all of them--and it sounds very urgent.

« Everyone on the ship, listen up! This is Jaime Reyes, your local 'Blowing this pop stand' coordinator and escape facilitation engineer. I need everyone on the ship to come to the City, in front of the Precinct, immediately. Grab people who don't have their comm rings with them--and tell them to grab their comm rings, people who are sleeping, whoever you find, and try to make sure everyone on the ship knows to come. This is very important. This is "getting the heck out of here" important. »

When they arrive, they arrive to find the Command Staff waiting, and a tiny, tiny young man standing on stone ledge from a fountain, waiting for them.

Here goes nothing.

"I mean, Stacey is alright and everything, and it's good to see so many not-dead people from Earth, but I'm missing me curry and me lager," Lister explains his enthusiasm. "Well, if you don't want to go back to your world just yet, you could always come to mine for a visit?"

Have a cheeky Liverpudlian grinning at you, Jean.

"That's very sweet of you to offer, but I don't think I could just pop in for a visit," Jean laughed. "Besides, I don't think I could handle Rimmer, just from what you've said about him."

Lister considers this. "True. And then there's the Cat. With you being able to read people's minds...does that work with cat based humans? 'Cos all you'd get from him would be 'I'm going to eat you little fishy,' and stuff about lady cats. He's a bit single minded."

It's a shame though. It would have given Lister someone else to talk to.

"I'm not quite sure," Jean admits. "Though I'm sure I could given that he's a... cat based human." Jean smiled though finding Lister to be as amusing as always.

"I wonder if we'll remember what happened here when we go back...."

"That's the only way I can describe him. He evolved from me pet cat when I was put into stasis," and Lister is quite sure that the only effect evolution had on them was giving them opposable thumbs and the ability to walk upright.

"Dunno. Cos, if we go back now, back to the same time as we left, we'll be all confused if we remember, so it might be best not to remember. But if we go back and the same amount of time has passed, not remembering would be hard. Amnesia cases all over the smegging place. Which do you think?"

Lister also notes that Jean said 'when', and not 'if'. He likes optimism.
