The Call

Jaime Reyes voice sounds over the comm-rings--all of them--and it sounds very urgent.

« Everyone on the ship, listen up! This is Jaime Reyes, your local 'Blowing this pop stand' coordinator and escape facilitation engineer. I need everyone on the ship to come to the City, in front of the Precinct, immediately. Grab people who don't have their comm rings with them--and tell them to grab their comm rings, people who are sleeping, whoever you find, and try to make sure everyone on the ship knows to come. This is very important. This is "getting the heck out of here" important. »

When they arrive, they arrive to find the Command Staff waiting, and a tiny, tiny young man standing on stone ledge from a fountain, waiting for them.

Here goes nothing.

"I'm not a Titan!" Bart said. "Sweet suit. Am I delightful still?"

"Oh... you're from before that?" Zach sighs and shakes his head. "This place just gets better and better.."

He shook his head. "Well, we haven't met yet, but I know all about you." Enough that he'd prefer to keep his distance. "Pleasure to work with you... I'm Zachary Zatara, World's Greatest Teenage Magician."

"After, actually. I was only a Titan, for, like, a few weeks or something." And before it too, but Bart hasn't gotten there.

He grins. "Cool, nice to meet you! I'm Bart! Are you related to Zatanna? We teamed up once! Looc ytterp s'ehs!"

"Words backwards, sentences forward." Zach corrected him. "And yes, she's my cousin." His eye noticeably twitched. He adored Zanna, but her fame overshadowing his was a sore subject.

"...S'ehs ytterp looc?" Bart tried again. "Cool, do you do magic shows too? Can I see? Od uoy klat sdrawkcab?"

Zach paused, as something he hadn't considered about the ship occurred to him for the first time. Captive audience, yes? "I... suppose I could actually put on quite a show. Get one of the.. sensoriums to give me a stage and whatever I need to put together."

He looked him over. "Well, first off, let's fix that outfit of yours, it's close, but a bit off. Tnalp tius ot repus oreh emutsoc." He shot the plant suit with the transformation spell.

"'Plant suit to super hero costume,'" Bart translated. Then he blinked, looked down, and laughed. "Cool! That wasreallyawesome! It's good to be back in my colors?" He beamed and looked down at himself. "If you did a show I'd totally go!"

Zach grinned, pushing up his hat with a flourish. "Oh that was easy." He was still pondering putting on a show. "Well, that's the smartest decision I've ever heard of you making."

"Really? Thanks!" Bart grinned. "I can do some card tricks, you know. But that's mostly just cause I'm really fast."

Zach smirked. "Watching as fast as you want doesn't mean anything when a good magician just has you watching what they want you to be watching."

"How does that work?"

With you? Some tin-foil or jangling some keys would probably work.

He smiles. "Come to my show and you'll see."

It's sad, but kind of true. He might not be distracted for more than a few seconds, though.

"I'll come! D'you think you could show me some tricks or something though? That'd be awesome."

Zach considered it, then nodded. "Alright, one trick for now." He held up a coin which he'd gotten from somewhere, then closed his hand. It had vanished.

"What's that in your ear?" He reached over to Bart's ear, then pulled back a closed hand. He opened it, and bubbles floated out, rather than the coin.

Bart blinked and laughed. "How'd you do that?"

Zach grins, pleased with himself. "Well-trained hands, and having you looking for the coin when you should be looking for me switching off to a packet of liquid soap."

Bart gave him a slightly awed look. "Coooool. Can you do it again?"

Zach shook his head. "No. Along with never revealing secrets, doing a trick when someone's ready for it, especially someone like you, defeats the purpose. I will however point out that you've got a flower in your hair now."

And sure enough, where Zach pointed, there was a daisy.

"COOL!" Bart laughed and pulled it out. "How'd you do that one?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Zach replied, shrugging with a smug look on his face. "I'm awesome."

"Sweet, me too!" He grinned.
