Mix-and-Mingle

After the most recent pod-pop had been completed, Stacy began encouraging the crew towards the Obs Deck. They would be most effective if they were familiar with each other, and as the Jaime Reyes Incident had proved, leaving them to meet whenever they happened to cross paths was not effective.

Anyone who stepped into the Hub would be transported to the Obs Deck, no matter where they had intended to go. Those who had been exploring the City were verbally herded towards the Hub, although the energy tentacles did not make an appearance.

||Please report to the Obs Deck for Crew Introductions.||

The Obs Deck hadn't changed very much since they'd last been there. The creepy sculpture was still present, as were the fleshy couches. However, the couches were arranged in a more obvious circle this time.

Come and meet the new -- and in some cases, weirder -- members of your crew.

Ah, the unexpected tribulations of pretending to be human. The Doctor was good at it up until someone touched him. Now the Time Lord wasn't even bothering; someone'd already called him out on it.

The Doctor put the stethoscope back in his pocket, trying very hard to remain calm. Not a more powerful species? Him? Hah! He made a face, answering carefully, "Ah, that could be true, yes, it could be. Quite possibly. Humans are very, very adaptable. Lots of great qualities, and as you said, adaptable. But then why am I out already? If they're saving the more powerful species for later?"

"I would think that you were intended to be the leader, if Prince Cybil had not been named captain," Ax said. Prince Cybil. Principle. The word-play still amused him a little. "Perhaps you are supposed to serve in an advisory capacity? Serr, ser-vuh."

He shrugged, a habit he'd picked up from his human friends. "I cannot guess Stacy's mind, nor the minds of who- or whatever programmed her. I am only a human teenager."

"Well, I suppose. That'd, that'd make sense. With the, well. I don't do violence," he explained. "Which apparently makes me the minority."

The Doctor scratched the back of his neck. "Ah, well, none of us can really form a correct assumption about what's going on, but I don't think that's stopping anyone from guessing. Half the fun! What fun there is."

The military cadet involved in guerrilla warfare against a space-faring empire shrugged in response. "Sometimes violence is a necessity. Other times it is not. Sometimes a reminder is needed. Ded. Nee-ded."

He scowled a little. "It is not much fun. I am needed back h-- where I was. I do not like this ship and I do not like the circumstances."

The idea of necessary violence just made the Doctor angry. But he'd had this fight several times already while he was here, and he was starting to get tired of it. "A reminder? Of what, of destruction? Of power? No, no, no. Or else everyone just ends up dead, the end, nothing more, just dead. Really dead."

"Everyone," he restated quietly, sadly. He hadn't had time to grieve, before he was abducted. The Master was dead, and according to that, that thing in that building, so was the TARDIS. At the moment there was nothing the Doctor wouldn't give to be allowed to just grieve.

"I meant that sometimes a reminder is needed that violence is not always necessary," Ax retorted. Cassie had always made a point to remind them so, sometimes to exasperating levels.

But he didn't want to talk about fighting and violence right now. Not too long before he had been taken, he had played chicken with Visser Two, a nuclear warhead, and his friends' hometown to prevent the Yeerks from instigating a nuclear war between the United States and China. He didn't need this Doctor to talk to him about how bad war was.

He turned and pressed his face back against the window. "Sary," he muttered to himself. "Nessessessary."

Oops. Bit of a miscommunication there. "Ah, right. Yes."

Staring out the window, the Doctor decided to be quiet, for once.
