trans_9 | In Which the Overlord is Flat On His Face

Zetta took a couple of steps back, then grabbed the middle car of the train behind him. He hefted the entire train off the track, despite the fact that the car couplers were in no way strong enough to endure the weight as the LEAST of the physical problems with the action, then whirled it around his body dramatically like a pair of nunchuks.

"You wanted it!" he said with a grin.

She'd seen some silly things in her life. Somehow this was right up there on the top three. Lash could only stare for a few confused seconds before bursting out laughing at the sheer lunacy of it all.

"Tee hee hee! I don't think I can do that! You win!" Well that had been the shortest battle ever.

"It's the Sensorium, of course you can. But I CAN do it in reality," Zetta said, grinning even more broadly. Seeing her laugh made him happy in ways he absolutely refused to acknowledge.

He tossed the train aside, then from nowhere produced a pair of nunchuks, which he spun around his body just as he had the train (if it caused physics to cry slightly less).

"Touché," she replied, acknowledging that this was true. Somehow she didn't feel like using the train as nunchucks was something her brain wanted her to do, however. Instead, she put on her morphers raising her arms...

And took out her spear, only for it to break into a sort of nine piece iron...whip....thing. Whatever. In response to his spinning, she did her own spinning. It was one hand, but it totally looked cool, okay.

"That's a weapon that comes with the costume, right?" Zetta asked. "I get the impression that you didn't do a lot of work with melee weapons before you got on that team."

Giant death rays were NOT the general province of people who liked to get up close and personal, and he should know.

"Well yeah," she answered back, instantly stopping her spinning games, his guess being completely correct. "There was a bit of hand to hand combat and gun training but for the most part I stayed behind the lines, sending in our armies to do the dirty work. And we never used stuff like this!" She held the weapon-chain over her elbow.

"Not to mention, would you really bring swords and staffs to gun fights?" A small pause, as she realized that this happened here regularly. "...well uh from were I'm from anyway. Kanbei carried around his royal blade or whatever but otherwise no one walked around with one."

"Well, in the Netherworld, anything is pretty much equal to anything else in terms of sheer damage, provided you're using it right," Zetta said. He tossed aside the nunchucks, then produced from his cape a fishing pole. "It isn't so much the weapon as the power you have behind it. So you can use whatever you want, really."

She started at the fishing rod. Well she would have, if she didn't have a helmet--actually she took it off and tossed it aside, so he COULD see the staring. "Look, I can get that you can use anything to fight back, but a pole with a hook at the end?"

The sad thing was Lash had never seen a fishing pole before.

"Fear the power of the fishing pole!" Zetta brandished it at her like a fencing foil, although the way the tip wobbled it didn't exactly strike fear into anyone's hearts as a weapon. "The ultimate weapon of the Netherworld! Hyaaaa ha ha ha ha!"

"Oooh I'm so scared!" Lash replied in a mocking tone. "Besides, how would you catch a fish with that anyway? Are fish really that dumb enough to want to get their moths hooked in?"

Sometimes Lash was naive about the simplest things. Regardless, she stood there with a grin, assuming a blocking position, just in case.

"Uh, yeah? I mean, this one doesn't have bait, but fish are so stupid they'll bite at anything. They're not exactly Wunderkinds of the animal kingdom." Zetta hadn't attacked yet, apparently figuring this explanation was more important.

"Huh. We just blew up the fish for fun with a few torpedoes using the black submarines." Nice to know they were the Prinnies of the water-dwellers, in any case. "When I read about the beach stuff, I was pretty surprised some of you ate them on sticks, deep fried. So you use these to catch them then, one by one? Or are there better tools. Let nets! I bet there are nets."

Get power of deduction, Lash. Wait where they going to be fighting?

"Yeah, but that's more for deep-sea trawling. If you're in a lake or a river, a fishing pole is time-honored. Besides, nets can't do THIS!"

Zetta lifted the rod abruptly, then spun and with a flick of his wrist, cast the hook in the exact opposite direction of Lash. With the Overlord's strength and skill behind it, the hook sailed into the distance till it was long gone.

Lash would never expect it to go entirely around the world and hook her in the back, would she?

Not at all. Which is why it was pretty hilarious to see her reaction when the hook found the back of her coat and she felt something tugging at her.

"What the---" Whoosh! Her brain caught up just a little too late.

And Zetta pulled!

You see, the true terror of this technique was not in the hook. The terror came from being dragged around the entire circumference of the world in about ten seconds.

"Bring me a souvenir!" he shouted over his shoulder as he reeled.

"No f----" her voice quickly disappeared only to slowly build up again eight seconds later.

"----aaah!" Lash didn't see that worst for wear, apart from an amount of leaves, her hair a complete mess, a starfish and a monkey hanging on for dear life on her.

Zetta casually disengaged the hook with a flick of his wrist, slinging the pole confidently back over his shoulder. "So. Still gonna call it stupid, or should I demonstrate some OTHER techniques?"

"Well if they don't involve me getting flung around the world," she began, shaking the leaves out of her head, throwing the starfish at him and shooing the monkey away. "I wanna see what else can be done!"

This was Lash, after all.

"Hmph, you're gonna lose this training session without getting one attack him." Zetta grinned. Just like him -- or them -- to think of a training session in terms of winners and losers.

'No I won't!" She counter-argued, crossing her hands to explain. "Watching a demonstration is very different than actually fighting you. It's not like I can send out spies to see what you can do like I did back in Black Hole."

Not that she would, she was just trying to prove her point.

"No, I mean it, you only have so many hit points," Zetta said, a little flustered. "If I showed up with you at the med bay that would be awkward. People would ask weird questions."

"Aww come on, just bring in a healer or something!" He'd done that before, Lash couldn't see what Zetta could possibly due that would hurt her that much. "I'll use my Ranger powers and lower the damage or something?"

See? She was totally cheerful going right into the lion's mouth, so to speak.

Zetta just frowned at Lash.

"Look, if it's a sneak attack, that's hilarious, but if I'm just slapping you around without you fighting back, that's not fun at all!" Almost like he didn't want to hurt her (if it wasn't funny) blah blah feelings.

"Alright, alright!" she finally said with a grin, relenting. "I guess neither of us weren't fan of the no fun things, huh?" She tilted her head slightly. Now it was time to get serious...or at least somewhat. It was hard to tell when Lash was serious at all.

"Okay, you get to chose the battle stage this time."
