In Which the Overlord is Flat On His Face

It's going to be one of those days.

In the hallway directly outside the mess hall lay a book. The bright red body and overall size clearly pointed to it being the Overlord, for those familiar with him, but his back cover was the one facing upwards. No sign of any minion around. None of the cursing, struggling, and flopping one would expect from Zetta in such an undignified posture.

Just a tome, lying flat on the ground, as if a crew member had simply discarded it thoughtlessly.

"Aww come on, just bring in a healer or something!" He'd done that before, Lash couldn't see what Zetta could possibly due that would hurt her that much. "I'll use my Ranger powers and lower the damage or something?"

See? She was totally cheerful going right into the lion's mouth, so to speak.

Zetta just frowned at Lash.

"Look, if it's a sneak attack, that's hilarious, but if I'm just slapping you around without you fighting back, that's not fun at all!" Almost like he didn't want to hurt her (if it wasn't funny) blah blah feelings.

"Alright, alright!" she finally said with a grin, relenting. "I guess neither of us weren't fan of the no fun things, huh?" She tilted her head slightly. Now it was time to get serious...or at least somewhat. It was hard to tell when Lash was serious at all.

"Okay, you get to chose the battle stage this time."

BAM! No sooner had she said that then they were on a beach! But this wasn't like the beach they'd had fun on before -- this beach was about a 200x200 square, with empty space off of each side. It had several palm trees, coconuts, and ferns lying around. One of the palm trees had a giant sign over it that said KEY.

Tossing aside his fishing pole, Zetta yanked a sword out of nowhere, grinning. "Yeah. I prefer fun things. Though you really need a more fanservicey costume..."

Right to the point huh? Well two cane play that game. Lash jumped to the opposite section of the tiny beach tile, taking out a sword of her own before costume after costume after costume piled up on her so in the end she looked more like an overdressed sumo wrestler than anything else.

"Tee hee hee! Good enough for you?"

"That's not fanservice!" Zetta said, his voice going up a note or two in anger. "That's the opposite of fanservice! Why would you DO that?! Also, how are you not melting?"

It was a beach. Not exactly a cold environment.

"There's a cold suit inside of here," she replied. "If anything, I'm more comfortable and cool than if I hadn't been wearing much."

She swung her sword and...promptly fell over, her legs dangling in the air before she cheated and pushed herself back up thanks to the sensoriums.

"...yeah." Well that ruined her big badass moment. Not that being in such a huge suit was badass.

"...Can you even reach me with your weapon? Can you even swing it properly?"

The Overlord was really not impressed.

"Sure I can!" she said, giving a few swipes. "Dunno if I can reach without rockets attached to me or a hoverpack, but I bet I gained a bit of defense with this, tee hee hee!" She was maybe having a bit too much fun with this.

In response, Zetta scooped up a pile of rocks (that hadn't been there a moment before) and began hucking them at her.

Dodge that.

In response, Lash idly moved her hand with her sword ineffectively as the rocks hit her, pushing her away closer to the edge to the point where her legs were dangling into the air again.

But she was laughing. How could she not? The entire situation was so hilariously ludicrous she couldn't do otherwise.

"Alright, alright! You win you win!"

"Damn straight I win," Zetta said. Despite how easy that victory had come, he was grinning. "Not a good outfit choice, Lash. You should know that by video game laws, your greatest protection comes from an outfit that bares a ton of skin, like a chain mail bikini or strategically-slit leather!"

If she actually adopted a style anywhere close to those looks, though, Zetta would never believe it.

"...ewww. a chain mail bikini sounds incredibly chaffing," she responded nonchalantly, sticking her tongue out thinking about it. "Not to mention the rust if it ever got in the water and..." watch as she ruined Zetta's no-scientific rules with scientific ones! Thankfully, she was standing in her normal outfit again. "Okay, here's an idea. You're the...video game expert, you pick an outfit for me. And it better be good! And don't overdo it! And no bikinis or strategically-slit anything!"

...This was pretty much a double edge sword. If he made it too short, she'd probably do terrible things.

In other words, this plan could not go wrong.

With barely a half-second's worth of thought, Zetta swapped her costume out for one that might possibly look familiar, if she took a moment to consider where she might have seen it before.

Couldn't go wrong, huh?

As she looked down, Lash gave him a 'oh no you didn't' look before speaking. "Somehow I was expecting tha--" aaaand then the Wunderkind quickly fell because of the high heels and the fact she hadn't adjusted. "...!"

GOOD JORB ZETTA.

Zetta, who considered this a complete and total victory on all fronts, simply burst into wicked laughter.

So Lash threw one of the shoes at him. And then for good measure, changed his outfit to the exact same one she was wearing but made for a guy...and she was nice enough to give him pants, at least. But he still got a nice pair of high heels. Twice as high as hers.

And he balanced perfectly on them.

Because for all his flaws, all his comedic suffering, and all his setbacks, he remained Zetta! The most badass freaking Overlord in the cosmos! He folded his arms and laughed at her feeble attempt to discomfit a level 2000 demon!

Lash stood up again, the high heels turning into a pair of army boots instead. Much better. She looked at Zetta, one eyebrow clearly raised.

"You look abnormally good with those," she remarked, snickering. She thought about putting him in a ballerina costume she had read about in the library but realized he'd probably pull something worse on her. So she did the next, more logical thing.

Lash pulled out her sword again.

"Well I guess this is the part where I'll make you fall down by myself if I have too!" And with those lovely words, she charged at him.

Zetta lifted his own weapon to block. His ankle twisted and he promptly went down.

But don't let that stop you, Lash! The Overlord smoothly rolled to his feet as if he'd meant to do that, then lifted his sword right back up. "Ha!"

"Ha!" she yelled as their swords clashed. "You're not as stable with the blade as I thought you'd be!" They both knew he was much better at her with short range weapons, but like Lash would let him life that little faux-pas down. In retaliation, she bent down, and moved her left foot to attempt to kick one his right knee to push him down again.

"Get ready!" Zetta shouted as he leaped backwards, away from her attack -- and back, and back, and up, and up...

He seemed to hover in midair for a moment, then dove at her, sword extended as massive contrails of power spread outwards from him like wings larger than the entire battlefield.

The sight of Zetta coming at her was pretty ridiculous with the scientific outfit and those high heels, but Lash knew he wasn't kidding when he issued a warning. She held her sword with both hands, and waited for his attack, with feet to the ground...and got dragged backwards pretty hard for it, near the tiny little area they were both standing on.

She flinched a bit, but the blade was already shaking from her hand, her grip slipping rather easily. As much training as she was getting with the blade lately thanks to him, it still wasn't her primary weapon, the bō from her ranger training was. You could see she really hated to be flimsy with it too, as she bit her lip and tried to push him back. The fact she was still there, at least, told she she had been learning something at least.

As Zetta flew past, the the area over which he'd flown exploded.

She really should've seen that coming.

So now they only had a tiny bit of land left to do their battle. She could deal with that!

By which meant she held on bravely for a few more seconds before Zetta could see her fall off the platform and into the nothingness.
