"What the hell was with the splashing?!" the book demanded, this of course being obviously much more important than anything Kaya was asking.

"You were just lying here out in the open, where anyone could mess with you! Of course I was worried! That, and you weren't waking up either!"

Kaya rolled her eyes. "What are you doing out here?"

"Getting soaking wet, apparently!" the book snapped. Actually, he had no idea, but anyone being worried about him or something implied that they thought he actually needed to be worried about ever. And Zetta wouldn't stand for that! Right?!

"Oh, you're not that wet!" Kaya retorted, bringing the last of the water out of him. "And you still haven't answered my question! What are you doing, lying out here anyway?"

"Getting splashed randomly, apparently!" Zetta said, who, not entirely understanding the question, elected to pretty much avoid it as much as possible.

"Did you whine this much when you were a demon?" Kaya said, shaking her head. "It's just water. Not the best way to wake up, mind you, but you sleep really soundly, and I think you'd have cared more if I started shaking you. At least with water, I can make you dry in a matter of seconds."

Like now.

"And you still haven't answered my ll, with not even a demon minion around?"

"It's beneath my dignity as an Overlord," the book said disdainfully. "I'm a mighty demon, feared throughout the cosmos. Splashfights aren't my style... unless the girl in question is in a T-shirt..." The Overlord's thoughts drifted off for a moment.

At this reply, Kaya actually very visibly blushed. It had little to do with the wet T-shirt thing the Overlord was mentioning and more to do with her latest excursion with water recently.

"I'm more worried with why you were left by yourself in the middle of a public place with no one to recover you!" She said. "Or is being abandoned totally within the dignity of an Overlord?"

Zetta had no idea. For once, possibly for the first time since meeting her, the Overlord had no idea whatsoever of Kaya's romantic status. Then again, he was willfully oblivious of his own, too...

"What the hell do you mean? I'm the Overlord! I don't need anyone to recover me or look after me! I'm a mature responsible demon! ...book."

That was little surprise: no one really knew of Kaya's romantic status right now, and it hardly mattered anyway. In fact, the less ammunition the Overlord had about her love life, the better.

Granted, she'd be REALLY interested to know about his, but that was neither here nor there.

"So it was totally fine you were sleeping out in the open, and never once did it occur to you that you could be picked up and chucked out into space? " She shook her head. "No wonder Lash had to go and get you: you really are dumb sometimes."

Hey, hadn't he always tried to help, in his own way? (And how had she missed his? Between the beach party, and crashing prom, and generally Zetta and Lash being loud and obnoxious quite publicly... and the whole Lash-charging-into-space thing!)

"I wasn't sleeping!" That was literal truth; he'd been inanimate. "And who the hell is gonna chuck me into space?!"

That was an interesting way to put it. While she had her rising suspicions on him and Lash, there would be little to no way to confirm it: those two were in a world of their own.

"Well whatever you call it, you might as well have been leaving your back exposed!" Kaya insisted. "In case you forgot, you're not exactly the most popular member on the Council! You don't think I trust everyone on the ship to leave you be, do you?"

"Hmph. There's not a damn thing anyone on this ship can do to me," Zetta said, infinitely smug. "I'm too strong, too badass, and too awesome. It'd be easier to destroy the ship than it would be to destroy me!"

"Yet if you were thrown off the ship and you didn't know it, how long would it be before you were able to find us?" She said, shaking her head. "It's one thing to be this 'bad ass" Overlord, but as a book, you still need to make sure you have your minions with you, just in case."

"The same thing is true for anybody else!" Zetta said. "Someone could knock ANYone out while they sleep and pitch them off."

"But what's easier, knocking someone with a body out of the ship, or someone that's a book? I worry, Zetta! I don;t want anything to happen to you, especially if I can't face the culprit head on! And you're not taking this seriously, especially when you were out here abandoned for no reason! It's like you don;t even know why you were left here!"

"Either is pretty easy if all things are equal! Besides, the last time it happened it was because I was thrown at an Ohm! No one is gonna throw me at an Ohm these days, there are none on the ship!"

Dodge, dodge, dodge all the issues of what might actually be going on here...

"And no one is saying they will be!" Kaya said, who was starting to get more annoyed. "Why are you acting like I'm speaking in a foreign language? You appeared here, in the middle of the mess hall unattended, not even paying attention to what's happening around you! Besides being stepped on or tossed aside, if you had enemies on the ship, how easy would it be to get rid of you? You have to be more careful!"

She shook her head. "Maybe there's away of alerting your minions when you get left out in the open like that..."

"I don't get why you're worrying so much," Zetta grumbled. To his perception, the threat of being thrown off the ship was nonexistent! Someone who intended to do that would have a lot more problems than they'd solved in very short order. "Even if I WAS thrown off the ship I'd just end up in orbit. We already know that."

"Yes, but how long until you noticed you were in orbit, and then how long until you were even able to catch up to the ship again. If this is how irresponsible you act, no wonder Lash went after you weve when you were injured. YES, I know about that too!"

Now Kaya was in full mothering mode, something she hadn't done in weeks.

"Who died and made you strongest Overlord in the cosmos?!" Zetta said, too shocked to really be properly angry. "Because it sure wasn't me! Why are you treating me like I'm some kid who's gonna keel over and die any second now?!"

Kaya, however, was definitely able to be angry. "You're the only how cares about titles! If you want me to stop worrying, you can start by actually answering my question instead of avoiding it! You couldn't be more obvious about not knowing why you're abandoned out here!"

"I EARNED that title!" Now Zetta was mad. "I didn't get it as a prize in the bottom of my Honey Bunches of Leprechaun Charms! If you don't respect the title at least respect the power behind it!"

Of course, he was STILL dodging the question. "And how the hell am I abandoned?! I'm not some lost kitten or young child! I may be a book, but that doesn't mean I can't take care of myself. I've been doing it this long, haven't I?!"

"I'm aware of that!" Kaya said, who was starting to get angry herself. "But Overlord or not, right now you;re a book, and whether you want to admit it or not, there are going to be times you will be vulnerable. You might not like it, but its true! And I never disrespected anyone on this ship who has a title on their world! There's only one person I have, which, if you recall, is the very person you were in favor of walking around the ship!"

She seethed. "Call it what you want, you still haven;t answered my question! You have some nerve saying I'm treating you like a child when you deliberately avoid what I'm asking you!"

"How the hell should I know?!" Zetta snapped. "One minute I'm heading out of the mess hall, then next I'm getting watergunned! That's as far as I know about anything!"
