There's always work to be done!
At least in Hit girl's mind, that was the way things rolled.
And for Mindy, if you wanted to take the two separately, that idea carried over. Sure, there was plenty of training to do, and god knows she had several sparring partners by now, but maintaining her civilian identity was just as important. As it so happened though, there was just as much stuff for Mindy to do as Hit Girl. Specifically, this house took a LOT of care and cleaning, something that Ruffnut was more than happy to let Mindy spearhead. So inside work had involved mopping, sweeping, dusting, window washing and all the while contending with the ghosts. With Ruffnut doing whatever she was doing at this time, Mindy was more than happy to carry on conversations with the house ghouls and was now, in fact, quite used to them being there. Sure, they were a bit cold with her right now because Hana was a fall out with Ruffnut (for some fucking reason or another) but there was no pranking at her, and likewise she was respectful of them.
They were ghosts, for Christsake. Did you really want to piss them off?
Right now Mindy was hard at work, painting the front of the building after making sure she had piled up some leftover debris from the latest piece of shit falling apart, and was wiping her forehead a moment. She was dressed in a plain short sleeve shirt and work pants, her hair in a ponytail, looking a little tired.
God, she wasn't even done with most of her work today.

She stared at the girl a moment. "Well, we're here now. How do you rate your chances of survival here?"
no subject
No matter what, she would continue on. But that isn't how she replied. "Oh, I'm gonna stay pretty optimistic and say I think I'll be okay."

Diana extended her hand. "Do I get to know your name?"
no subject
She nodded. "Yeah, sorry about that. It's Mindy, Mindy Macready."
no subject
"Diana Ladris." Diana kept her hand out, looking at Mindy expectantly.
no subject
She shook the girl's hand. "Where are you from anyway? You from earth?"
no subject
"Yep. Guess that's not so exciting compared to a few of the people around here. Is it, Mindy?" She kept a sly smile. "Cute name."
no subject
"Hey, its plenty exciting to me, it's why I asked. Thanks: you have a pretty cool name yourself. Where are you from anyway? I'm a New York girl myself."
She had points so far.
no subject
"No wonder you can look after yourself." Diana chuckled a little. "I was in California until recently." She'd not really lived there too long, she'd just ended up there once her parents had shipped her off to Coates.
And they all still weren't sure that FAYZ was even in California anymore.
no subject
She grinned. "Well, you have to in a place like that. Cali huh? I hear its nice over there, obviously a little different though. Mind telling me about it?"
She was curious, and who else was around that could talk about Earth? She felt like she was forgetting it somehow.
no subject
"And it was pretty much normal Cali. Beaches. Sunshine. Waves. Alot of boys walking around saying the word 'brah' like it's going out of style despite it being about a decade out of style already." Not that she really spent much time with the locals of Cali, being cooped up in Coates, but Mindy didn't need to kow that.
no subject
Actually, that last part was exactly what she was talking about, "Yeah, that was what I mean. Change out the beaches for buildings and smog and people, and the word 'brah' with 'playa' and you get New York. Kinda nice though, to think about the beach and waves and stuff. Kinda have to go out and find that."
Like go to Jones Beach (Orchard if you wanted to punish yourself), although really, Mindy hadn't exactly been "out" much either.
no subject
"I might have to call by for an Earth check every so often so I don't get too used to being among the stars." She winked. "If you don't mind, of course."
"So, do you have this big place all to yourself? Not counting your little ghoul friends, I mean, though I'm sure they give you the very best company."
no subject
"I have no problem with that. I sort of have the same problem, really. The people I hang with don't necessarily come from the Earth that I know, thought they are pretty tough in their own right. It'd be nice to talk with somebody who still remembers what earth is like."
Oh, good question. "Nah, its not even my place specifically. I live here with my girlfriend Ruffnut, and whoever else decides to drop by. She's actually the one that found the place."
no subject
"Ruffnut?" That was a different name, she didn't recall ever hearing something like that called out for registration during the days of school. Did that mean she was--? "Is she an Earth go-er like ourselves?"
"Oh, I've heard that's the way it works around here. Find somewhere and take it." Not that Diana needed to adjust. That'd pretty much been the way people had chosen houses back in FAYZ. Take what you could. Besides, houses were pretty much in a surplus in that place...
"I bet fighting off anyone who wants the place too is easier than talking to any real estate agent."
no subject
Not like she could talk, of course.
"Um, I still am trying to figure that out. Ruffnut's a viking at any rate, hence the weird name. If you ever want to see where she's from though, just ask: she's shown me in the Sensorium. Definitely get your fill of dragons there."
Which was pretty awesome though.
"Yeah, pretty much, but the place is a fixer upper though. Lots of broken glass, ghosts, ripped up tapestries: its sorta like a haunted house. It's part of the charm though."
no subject
Well, FAYZ did have cobras with wings, dragons had probably been the next step it would have taken if she'd stuck around. The idea horrified her, what kind of freak dragons would FAYZ have produced? As if they didn't have enough to worry about...
But she was still curious, was there anyone who would pass up at least the chance to look at a real dragon? Even if she would be keeping her distance, she could still sneak a peek. She'd spotted a few draconian looking things on the ship so far but she'd opted to stay cautious for now. The idea of dragons might be cool but Diana was still avoiding walking up to anything with teeth and claws, let alone something that could breathe fire.
"Well, you certainly know how to pitch a sale." Diana chuckled slightly. "Any other positives you want to throw in there?"
no subject
Positives? "Besides the Sensorium, a place of your own here in the city, ability to go to different worlds and the ability to actually train yourself to get stronger? Well, the people here are interesting, the politics are laughable and there IS a draconian running the bar, but the whole big war kinda dampers it a little, you know?"
Not a little, but yeah. "Ruffnut is pretty cool though."
no subject
"Well, since you're so insistent, I guess I'll just have to resign to having a fun time here then." She leaned towards Mindy. "But you'll have to help me settle in. Deal?"
"Hmmm?" Diana fixed her eyes on Mindys. "Is she really?"
no subject
Oh, she HAD to trail off when she thought of Red Mist, that fucking cowardly little shit. If HE ever showed up on the ship. she wouldn't let him see her as Hit Girl, but she would wait until he brought his pansy ass to the city and send him where he belonged. But that was a Hit Girl thought, and Mindy was just poor, scared but perceptive girl.
"Huh? Oh yeah, why the hell not? You seem pretty cool, and there are always fun things to do around here." Man, if she didn't know better she'd think Diana was some kind of maneater...she at least knew how to talk, and she had to admire that in someone else.
"Well, to most people she might seem a little dim or whatever, but she takes life by the reins, you know? She's not afraid of barely anything, and she follows her instincts, and she's got tenacity. Plus, she's a viking, you don't get more hardcore than that. I'm a little biased when it comes to her though, so better you meet her for yourself and decide."
no subject
If Caine showed up well... Diana didn't know what she'd do.
"Wonderful." She reached up and tapped Mindys button nose with her fingertip. "I'll hold you to that."
Diana's eyes flashed knowingly and her pretty face held a smug smile. "Oh, I'm sure she's everything you say she is."
no subject
Mindy blinked. She wasn't...was she? Nah, no way. She didn't give any indication of that. Mindy figured she must be reading too much into that. That was probably how she talked to people, maybe.
Yet what was with that smile? It was like she was evaluating her or something. She wasn't scared of the girl, but wary, and she could plainly see there was an element of charm there. You didn't see what Mindy saw and disregard things like that.
"All right. Yeah, you'll probably find Ruffnut here later if you want to find her. I live here too obviously, so feel free to drop in anytime. I'm not guaranteeing we'll be there, but we usually are."
